Designed for close-up cine-style capture and covering up to full-frame size sensors, the white ARRI PL-mount IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro Cine Lens ARRI PL Feet Whitefrom IRIX incorporates multiple internal and external design features. External features include a 95mm front diameter, 0.8 MOD gears, luminous focus marks in feet, and a detachable 1/4"-20 support foot. Internally, 11 blades produce smooth, rounded bokeh, and five seals protect against inclement weather and dust.

To help eliminate aberrations and distortion, the 150mm IRIX is constructed with 12 optical elements in nine groups, including four HR (high refractive index) and three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements. This lens has 270° of focus and 75° of iris rotation, an 86mm front filter thread, and includes front and rear caps.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there some reason that this is not listed as a "Portrait lens"? Seems like it would be marketed for that as well, considering the Focal Length and Large aperture. Makes me suspicious about the image quality.

A: This is a low (looks like nearly zero) distortion lens with 1:1 true macro capabilities. Of course you could use it as a portrait and it will, no doubt, be tack sharp giving pleasant bokeh with the 11 blade round aperture shooting at f/2.8. But it is more than just a portrait lens (on a full frame...a crop frame may be too tight), it is a true macro lens which requires exacting optics and 1:1 magnification or better. In other words, on a FF camera, this lens would be fine for portraits.

Q: 2. Will the Tripod Collar fit the Sirui Ball Head K-30X?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the K30X ball head.

Q: 3. Where is this lens manufactured?

A: This lens is made in South Korea.

Q: 4. Is this compatible with the Canon 400D XTi and the 600D T3i? Or is an adapter required?

A: Yes, the IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens for Canon EF will adapt to both cameras mentioned.

Q: 5. Does this lens have auto exposure (aperture setting)? I understand that it is manual focus. But, I am not clear if you can set the aperture using the regular camera controls.

A: Yes, the aperture is controlled through the camera body.

Q: 6. Would this be useful to shoot sports? The focal length and aperture would work for me. How quick and accurate is the AF?

A: It is a manual focus lens.

Q: 7. Will this lens work with a plain Pentax K-3?

A: The IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens for Pentax K is compatible with the Pentax K3.

Q: 8. how does this lens compare to the Sigma 150 2.8 macro os ?

A: The IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens is a weather resistant manual focus Macro lens with sharp glass and a haze coating to create more contrast in the images. The 1.1" minimum focusing distance for the IRIX lens is similar to the 1.25" for the Sigma lens. The Sigma APO Macro 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Lens is a auto focus lens with a image stabilization, in a well built, (not as weather resistant as the IRIX), lens body. The Sigma specs say: " The optical design employs three SLD elements to virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color rendering. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied for greater contrast when working in strong lighting conditions" Both lenses will work fine for macro photography, the Sigma is autofocus, more durable and offers more edge sharpness. The IRIX focuses closer and cost a bit less.

Q: 9. Just received my lens. Is anyone experiencing noise when changing the aperture?

A: There should not be a loud noise when changing the aperture. Sometimes they can make very quiet noises if changing a lot, say from f2.8-f10, but should be ok.

Q: 10. How do you change the aperture?

A: Through the body of the camera, just like any other digital camera. I'm assuming you have digital camera? A film camera is not compatible.

[11, Rounded] I purchased the IRIX 15mm, 45mm, and 150mm as a set. The image quality is sharp and excellent, the focus and t-stop rings work smoothly and quietly, and the build quality is first class and aesthetically beautiful. I particularly like the water sealing most other brand lenses in this price range do not have. Focus breathing varies between the lenses but minimally and I'm quite happy with them. As other reviewers have mentioned, the curved lens cap is the only disadvantage, preventing positioning any lens face down on a surface with the lens cap on, but that's a minor issue against the superb overall package these lenses provide.

[Full Frame] Beautiful image and solid construction, looks great on set of a production

[11, Rounded] The image shows a close up of a Lego set using the IRIX 150mm lens. In that picture you can see the small rigs in the gray plastic that is not visible by just looking at it.

[T32] I've been shooting with this lens on my RED Helium, but I also use it for stills with my A7III. The focus throw is smooth and long, and there is little breathing between short distances or between long distances (although, as expected, if you pull from a couple inches away to infinity, there is a transition where it breathes heavily). It feels well made and the images are very sharp.

[1:1] I shoot surgical/medical and thus needed that reach (compared to the Rokinon 100mm macro I was using before) in order to remain non-invasive to a health care professional's space. I also wanted a cine version of a macro so this was perfect and really there is no other option other than another 100mm macro cine lens.
The images coming from my Fuji X-T3 with this lens are fantastic (rigged as shown using an EF to X-mount adapter). Feels like a solid lens. Not a fan of the magnetic hood but I use a matte box so no biggie. Lens cap and mount cover do suck, they feel like they could break from a drop. Focus ring is smooth but the iris ring is much looser in comparison, I wish they had the same tension.

[T3] What this LENS CAN DO IN Macro is MINDBLOWING!

[T3] Excellent for detail shots. It works as a telephoto lens but focus pull is way to fine beyond a couple of feet away from subject to really rack focus, so I would not recommend using this as a telephoto unless you can fix focus. No complaints as a macro lens though.

[T3] I needed a lightweight, cinema style macro lens for my motion control rig. This works perfectly. At the right price. Very happy
