Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would I need a separate adaptor to attach the lens on either Sony a7riii or a7riv?

A: You do not need an adaptor to use the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (Sony E-Mount) on the Sony A7RIII or A7RIV since all of these products use a Sony E-mount.

Q: 2. Could this be used with red cine cameras with pl mount?

A: It cannot be used with a camera that has a PL Mount. This is an MFT mount lens.

Q: 3. Are there filter threads on this lens? If so, what size?

A: No, The Vazen 40mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic Lens for Micro Four Thirds Cameras does not have filter threads. With this lens you would need to use a 95mm clamp on Matte box or adapter. Example 95mm Matte Box idea https://bhpho.to/3MTy91g

Q: 4. Can this lens in either mount version be mounted on a Sony A7S III?

A: We’re afraid not. They do not make an E-Mount version of this lens.

Q: 5. Is there a Canon EF version coming? S35?

A: At this time there appears to be no plans to make a EF mount version of the Vazen 40mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic Lens for Micro Four Thirds Cameras.

Q: 6. Is the 40 mm the actual focal length (so roughly 80 mm equivalent to full 35 mm frame), or is it the equivalent focal length? In other words, is it wide-screen or is telephoto?

A: Lenses are always listed by their physical focal length, then the crop factor for the camera it is being used with must be factored. This will be closer to 80mm.

Q: 7. I hear this lens has a blue color cast, will that be a big issue if I use auto white balance?

A: This lens produces very desirable anamorphic blue flares (streaks) These artifacts are utilized most famously by the director J.J. Abrams. It does not create an undesirable blue cast that covers the entire frame.

Q: 8. I have a Zcam E2 and a RED Komodo. Is it possible to use the lens with an adapter for both cameras? Is there an MFT to RF adapte

A: Unfortunately, the Vazen 40mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic Lens for Micro Four Thirds Cameras would not work for RF lens mount cameras like the RED Komodo. However, it would adapt to Zcam cameras that have the MFT lens mount. The Vazen 40mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic Lens (RF Mount) model would be the best choice for the RED Komodo. At this time MFT to RF adapters are not currently being manufactured.

Q: 9. In the GH5 what focal length do I input for IBIS?

A: You can experiment between 21mm to 24mm as that is the range for spherical comparison to see what results are best.

Q: 10. What is the crop factor when using this lens with the Red Komodo (RF Mount)? And, what is the Full Frame Equivalent?

A: The Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Super35 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (RF Mount) covers Super 35mm sensors like that on the RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO 6K Digital Cinema Camera (Canon RF), so there is no crop factor. If matching to full frame, the equivalent on the full-frame sensor will be 75mm.

[82 mm] .I would characterize myself as an amateur filmmaker, or at least a serious hobbyist, who has had no experience with cinematic lenses. This lens was an absolute blast to experiment with. It's a solidly built metal body, with smooth-turning geared focus and aperture rings. It is manual focus, but with the use of focus peaking, very sharp images can be achieved. Not coming from a cinema background, T-stops are a bit mysterious to me, but the wide T2.9 aperture (which I've read is roughly equivalent to f2.1) allows lower ISOs in low light conditions. A nice bonus is the inclusion of a lens pouch. For an example from my first shoot with this lens, visit https://youtu.be/462z64lIzUc. I look forward to playing much more with this fun lens.

[Metric] This lens is awesome, and produces clean images with real cinematic effects. I have the entire set (35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, 135mm, 150mm plus the 1.25 adapter that produces a 2x squeeze when paired with the 1.6x anamorphic squeeze of the lenses). The lenses produce uniform colors all throughout the set, and images are sharp wide open at T2.9. Somehow SIRUI has managed to make these primes sharp wide open, but not too sharp, given you that movie like look without any diffusion filters on the front of your lens. If you haven't tried the anamorphic look, you have no idea what your projects are missing. As result of purchasing this set, my G Masters and spherical Cine primes are collecting dust. The SIRUI 1.6x T 2.9 Venus Anamorphic lenses are a great set of glass.

[82 mm] image rendered so great. with Bmcc6k full frame camera has a bit vignette, but if scale up the clip like 1.1x in davinci resolve can get rid of vignette.and I can live with that. With sigma MC-21 adapter is enoght tight to not worry abot it.

[11] Blazar nailed this and no its not a perfect lens... but for under a grand ITS INSANE that a TINY and LIght-weight anamorphic getting you that old panavision c-d series aesthetic but you can actually own these. Are they 2x no obviously not - My Gemini is 30x18mm (rounded) and on 4 perf S35 ie larger S35 chips like my Red Gemini this Lens is a DREAM... Its definitely soft wide open as most vintage anamorphics are and has some CA and flaws but they are very organic... and although the squeeze isnt 2x the Bokeh are CLEARLY oval and the blue streaks (got the blue streak PL ) are great... I always think you need to see how SMALL they are to believe it I dont need a support on My Gemini or when using the FF on my Eos r5. I cant wait for rest have 100 and Hoping the 85 comes soon and then the 33mm FF But this one is a must if you can only buy one.

[1x 1/4"-20] This lens looks great, has interesting flares and has character up the wazoo. I love the distortion of this lens. It may be my PL mount, but the lens is a bit too soft at the moment at distances past 10 meters, and I'll have it checked out soon at a rental house with focus charts. Besides that, so amazing!

[82 mm] I bought a set of Viltrox anamorphic lenses, which are amazing, but I wanted something smaller and lighter for my FX6/Ronin 4D. These Blazar lenses are a lot of fun. I only have the 65 so far, which I find wide enough for most situations without having the issues in the corners that the 45 had. Waiting to try out their new ones, I just need something slightly wider and another slightly tighter. Waiting to hear what they say about the new additions.

[82 mm] I am not really able to compare it to the others in the set yet… but it’s a safe bet this is the weakest of the 4 or 3if FF only. Partially just from to the focal length not conveying the look as strong as the wider lenses but also it really works best stopped down a tad…as it’s rather soft wide open. However I am def still very impressed by the overall quality and quality of these… they don’t feel cheap just small … shockingly small. The 100mm in PL is smaller than my RF 50mm f1.2! Impressed by this but it comes at the cost of some obvious chromatic aberrations… still for the money this is great and 1.5x may seem to enough squeeze the bokeh and flares look very anamorphic to my eyes shockingly so.
If you order just one maybe the 45mm 65mm or if your on smaller than 17mm high S35 sensors… get the 35mm . This lens great but don’t make it your only option.

[50mm] First off. These have to be one of the best budget anamorphics you can get your hands on as of early 2024.

My only small grip is the inconsistent squeeze factor on the 50mm. If you know that it's easy to compensate in post but I would feel a little weary handing off footage from the 50mm lens.

As for the 35mm, I really love how large the FOV is. On the flip side you have to get a subject very close to really feel the anamorphic stuff but outside of that is a very useful focal length

As an owner op these are WELL worth your money

[82 mm] After reading the review in NewsShooter I thought I'd give these a go. They are my first anamorphic lenses (usually so expensive).

Even though I'm using this on my URSA Mini (super 35) with PL mount, the image captured is lovely - probably the sweet spot of the lens. It's full of character, but not too much. Sharp enough, but not clinical. The mechanics feel good and smooth build quality is solid.

They are quite a nice wide anamorphic 1.8x squeeze. For some recordings of the landscape in our valley, I wanted to capture a full panoramic. So recording to the full sensor (16:9) and then de-squeezing without cropping I ended up with a 3.3:1 panoramic. Obviously I won't be delivering a commercial project in that aspect ratio, but for my home recordings it's lovely to see such a vista captured in one shot.

I can highly recommend.
