The Cine V-AF series increases compatibility with gimbals and drones by offering a unified form factor for its five different focal lengths (ultra-wide to medium-tele). By providing a compact, lightweight form with a unified center of gravity, the need to reset the balance and supporting equipment after a lens change is eliminated.

Q: 1. Does the Sony version of this lens have the AE chip?

A: Yes it ha the AE chip. All of the auto focus lenses do. It is only the manual focus lenses that are sometimes offers with or without an AE chip.

A: The Rokinon Cine AF 24mm T1.9 FE Sony E-Mount Lens is suitable for stills capture on Sony E-Mount capable cameras.

Q: 3. Is your stock up to date with the latest Firmware Version 4.0??

Q: 4. This or the Sigma 35mm 1.4 ? (for Video)

A: Both this lens and the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens would be great for video, as they both offer quiet/fast autofocus along with a large aperture for a shallower depth of field. As far as which is better, it would really come down to the budget of the individual.

Q: 5. In your description, Samyang says nothing about manual focus override, like the Rokinon states. Does it have the same over ride for tweaking the focus?

A: Yes the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE Lens for Sony E has a manual focus adjustment.

Q: 6. Hello, how do I remove the lens hood when I first take the lens out of the box?

A: The lens hood is connected to the outside front of the lens via a bayonet mount. To remove the reverse-mounted lens hood, you may hold the lens from the back near the lens mount with one hand, then grasp the lens hood using your other hand and rotate the lens hood counter-clockwise. To attach the lens hood, you can align the white dot on the back of the lens hood with the white dot on the front of the lens, then rotate the lens hood clockwise until the lens hood clicks into place.

[43.3 mm] See Dustin Abbott or SonyAlpha blog for the details. It is a winner and the lens that stays on my Sony A7iv most often.

[Full Frame] Perfect 35mm for Sony. Having used both the Samyang 35mm 1.4 and 1.8, the 1.8 is objectively better and also happens to be much lighter and costs less. The 1.8 has great autofocus and image quality whereas the 1.4 has horrible autofocus and lesser image quality.

[58 mm] Use this lens as a walk around prime. The images that this lens produces are very sharp. I have never used this particular brand before but figured for the price why not give it a try? I am very happy with the quality thus far and have 0 regrets.

[Sony E] I had wanted a 35 mm lens, but I didn't think I would use it a great deal. Therefore shelling out thousands for the G Master didn't make sense.

After comparing a few in the lower price range I took a chance on my first Samyang lens. I am happy I did because it perfectly fits my needs. Images seem sharp enough wide open. It's fast, autofocus hasn't been an issue for me at all. This came up in reviews, but it isn't something I have experienced.

For the price I got it for I think it's amazing.

[9] Going into this purchase, I was a little hesitant as I had never used a Samyang lens. I've always been a little wary about third party lenses after a terrible experience with another very reputable company, but I guess the game has really been elevated in the years since.

Initially I noticed the lens doesn't feel cheap. It's got some heft to it; not as much as, say an Art series lens, but definitely more than the Sony 50mm 1.8 for example - it feels very solid.
The autofocus is fast and accurate and has given me no problems in the past three weeks.
The clarity of images is top-notch for a lens of this price with only mild purple fringing in heavy contrast areas.
All in all, I'd say this isn't just a great lens for the price; it's a great lens period.

[43.3 mm] Disregard that earlier review by "Lance".

This lens is awesome. The AF mimics a normal focus pull and the weight makes it easy to swap out on a gimbal. I originally bought the 24mm V-AF and have been using it for a lot of gimbal work, I found that at times I would need a 85mm, so I use the Sony 85mm 1.8. To keep things consistent, I got the 75mm 1.8 V-AF. When switching focus, it is more organic and natural compared to a photo lens. I got the front accessory as well to dial the manual focus and it makes the feel of the lens much better.

If you are interested in using this for photo, fear not. The AF speed can be adjusted via the lens station and will give you fast speeds as a normal lens would.

My only gripe with the 75mm is the breathing which is normal at this focal length. Wish Sony extended the lens breathing comp to 3rd party lenses. On the other hand, the 24mm V-AF doesn't have any lens breathing comp at all.

Overall I am happy with the build, quality and performance of this lens. This is a video centric lens and as such, the expectations should align with it.

For the price, it's reasonable at $649. Looking forward to more accessories and improvements of this lens.

[T1.9] I love Rokinon lenses. They are very sharp and cheap.

[1.03 lb] NOTE: I usually manually focus and don't rely on autofocus, so I'm not reviewing af.
Finding cine lenses for the Ronin 4D has been a bit cumbersome, and this series of lenses ticks a lot of the boxes:
- Light, unified center of gravity specifically for gimbal use.
- 8k resolving power
- fast aperture
A bonus is that the SAMYANG MF V-AF adapter ($300 extra) just barely clears the lidar sensor above the lens, so you CAN use it for precise focus throws. It's a neat add-on accessory that adds value to the already great lens. To be clear, you can manually focus with the lens by itself, but with the adapter, you get near 300-degree focus throw with hard infinity stops and excellent control.

Potential cons... and I don't pixel peep, btw.
Sure, for $500/lens + $300/ MF adapter, you get a competent cine lens, which is still cheaper than comparable cine lenses. The chromatic aberration and focus breathing are the primary indicators when looking at performance, they're present. But honestly, nearly EVERY lens has CA and focus breathing to some degree. None of this lens' focus breathing or CA takes me out of the shot. Horrible focus breathing on my Sigma ART 50-100 is my standard for terrible, and this is NOWHERE near as noticeable as that. I feel it's minor and organic breathing on an extreme rack from foreground to infinity.

Finally, although these series of lenses work on the Ronin 4D, the tally light on the lens doesn't work, and I suspect this lens isn't fully communicating with the camera. I prefer the tally NOT to work anyway, as it seems gimmicky. I'm just calling out that although the manual focus is great and I can change the aperture through the camera, this lens is NOT on DJI's webpage of compatible lenses, so there may not be official electronic communication until future firmware from DJI for this lens.

Otherwise, this lens is exactly the cine solution I was looking for when I purchased the Ronin 4D.

[Full Frame] Super sharp lens, especially in the center, lightweight, and fast autofocus. Samyang has really come around and is giving Sony a run for the money. The Sony has better build quality, but is also double as expensive. If light weight, autofocus and sharpness is all you are asking for, Samyang is your choice.
