The Cine V-AF series increases compatibility with gimbals and drones by offering a unified form factor for its five different focal lengths (ultra-wide to medium-tele). By providing a compact, lightweight form with a unified center of gravity, the need to reset the balance and supporting equipment after a lens change is eliminated.

[Full Frame] This lens is honestly amazing! I've got this as well as the 35mm and the pro controller.
It's a little soft wide open at 1.9, but still very usable. Stop down to 2.5 or so and you're really sharp. While it doesn't have hard stops, the focus pulls are smooth and fluid just like a manual lens. No aggressive jumps. The autofocus focus pulls are also great because of how natural the pull is. Genuinely looks like someone is pulling focus.
I'm not sure if this would be a great lens for anything high speed like sports. The autofocus could struggle to keep up, but it works fantastically for doc work and interviews with eye tracking. No hunting at all.
Do yourself a favor and get the lens station as well as the pro controller. You really only need one pro controller, but I have two because I use two cameras. It gives you a 300 degree focus throw and hard stops, as well as quick easy transitioning from af to mf.
Overall, can't recommend this lens enough!

[Full Frame] I love the lens sharpness, lightweight, and small size. I'd absolutely buy it again. The AF locks on nicely. I opted to sell my 24-70 f4 and buy these little samyang lenses, the 35mm, 45mm, and 75mm, and I'm super happy I did. Great paired on my Sony a7r IV.

[58 mm] Disregard that earlier review by "Lance".

This lens is awesome. The AF mimics a normal focus pull and the weight makes it easy to swap out on a gimbal. I originally bought the 24mm V-AF and have been using it for a lot of gimbal work, I found that at times I would need a 85mm, so I use the Sony 85mm 1.8. To keep things consistent, I got the 75mm 1.8 V-AF. When switching focus, it is more organic and natural compared to a photo lens. I got the front accessory as well to dial the manual focus and it makes the feel of the lens much better.

If you are interested in using this for photo, fear not. The AF speed can be adjusted via the lens station and will give you fast speeds as a normal lens would.

My only gripe with the 75mm is the breathing which is normal at this focal length. Wish Sony extended the lens breathing comp to 3rd party lenses. On the other hand, the 24mm V-AF doesn't have any lens breathing comp at all.

Overall I am happy with the build, quality and performance of this lens. This is a video centric lens and as such, the expectations should align with it.

For the price, it's reasonable at $649. Looking forward to more accessories and improvements of this lens.

[1.045 lb] This whole set is amazing. I love the look from these. The small form factor and color is great. I love that the entire set is the same size so it makes it perfect for swapping lenses on the fly without having to rebalance the gimbal.

[58 mm] With a lens so small and light I thought for sure it would produce poor images, but I was wrong! The lens is very sharp and it's perfect for travel. Very little to no chromatic aberration and corner sharpness is very good. Sure, it's no 85mm f/1.4 GM but you can't tell a difference unless you're pixel peeping. The bokeh is very pleasing and it almost has this slight vintage rendering I really enjoy. 75mm is actually a great portrait focal length if you want some of the environment in the background vs the traditional 85mm.
With these small & inexpensive Samyang and Tamron lenses (while producing very sharp images) I ditched my APSC kit completely.

[Full Frame] Switchable focus / aperture ring feels really nice. Very compact and light. Image quality is good. Very shallow DoF. Audible AF. A little dark, even at F/1.8. Great for the price!

[58 mm] I bought this lens for video but I use it now a lot for photos as well, mostly portraits. The lens is already sharp quite open and stepped down en par with my best lenses with similar focal range. Low light autofocus performance seems to be better than my Sony 85mm f/1.8 and much better than adapted Sigma lenses. Colour rendition and bokeh is also good. One has to be careful with lens flare, but the deep lens hood helps to control it. Next to the really good optical performance the biggest advantage of the lens is the small size and weight. Happy that I bought it.

[1:0.13] NOTE: I usually manually focus and don't rely on autofocus, so I'm not reviewing af.
Finding cine lenses for the Ronin 4D has been a bit cumbersome, and this series of lenses ticks a lot of the boxes:
- Light, unified center of gravity specifically for gimbal use.
- 8k resolving power
- fast aperture
A bonus is that the SAMYANG MF V-AF adapter ($300 extra) just barely clears the lidar sensor above the lens, so you CAN use it for precise focus throws. It's a neat add-on accessory that adds value to the already great lens. To be clear, you can manually focus with the lens by itself, but with the adapter, you get near 300-degree focus throw with hard infinity stops and excellent control.

Potential cons... and I don't pixel peep, btw.
Sure, for $500/lens + $300/ MF adapter, you get a competent cine lens, which is still cheaper than comparable cine lenses. The chromatic aberration and focus breathing are the primary indicators when looking at performance, they're present. But honestly, nearly EVERY lens has CA and focus breathing to some degree. None of this lens' focus breathing or CA takes me out of the shot. Horrible focus breathing on my Sigma ART 50-100 is my standard for terrible, and this is NOWHERE near as noticeable as that. I feel it's minor and organic breathing on an extreme rack from foreground to infinity.

Finally, although these series of lenses work on the Ronin 4D, the tally light on the lens doesn't work, and I suspect this lens isn't fully communicating with the camera. I prefer the tally NOT to work anyway, as it seems gimmicky. I'm just calling out that although the manual focus is great and I can change the aperture through the camera, this lens is NOT on DJI's webpage of compatible lenses, so there may not be official electronic communication until future firmware from DJI for this lens.

Otherwise, this lens is exactly the cine solution I was looking for when I purchased the Ronin 4D.
