Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will not work on the R8?

A: The Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Super35 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (RF Mount) only covers the s35 sensor area, so the Canon EOS R8 will need to be set into cropped video mode to use the lens on the camera.

Q: 2. Does this lens have a de-clicked aperture ring?

A: Yes it does.

Q: 3. Can you record video just like with other lenses without any change in settings - the only extra step being desqueezing in post?

A: When filming with the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (Sony E-Mount), it's a normal operating lens. In post the de-squeeze is necessary to see the frame properly.

Q: 4. What is the aspect ratio for this lens on the Fujifilm open gate 6.2k?

A: The Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (Fujifilm X-Mount) "is designed for APS-C cameras and increases the horizontal FOV by 33% in comparison with traditional 50mm APS-C lenses. The result is equivalent to a wider, 37.5mm APS-C lens. After a de-squeeze, the captured image is displayed in an anamorphic 2.4:1 format in a 16:9 setting."

Q: 5. Can I use this with a Red Gemini camera?

A: You cannot. This is an E-mount lens.

Q: 6. It is possible to de-squeeze raw files when using this for still photos/photography, rather than video?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 7. What is the crop factor when using this lens with the Red Komodo (RF Mount)? And, what is the Full Frame Equivalent?

A: The Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Super35 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (RF Mount) covers Super 35mm sensors like that on the RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO 6K Digital Cinema Camera (Canon RF), so there is no crop factor. If matching to full frame, the equivalent on the full-frame sensor will be 75mm.

Q: 8. Can I mount this lens to a Lumix S5? I understand that I'll have to shoot in APSc mode, but will it physically connect and operate?

A: No, this lens will not go on the Lumix S5 because the camera has a Leica L mount and the lens has an MFT mount.

Q: 9. What is the image circle?

A: A lens' imaging circle is the size of the circle produced by a lens to create an image. As sensors are usually rectangular in shape, the imaging circle must be larger than the dimensions of the sensor in order to fully and evenly expose the sensor. Sirui does not specify the imaging circle size of the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens (MFT Mount), but they do indicate the imaging circle will cover an APS-C sensor, which is larger than the Four Thirds sensor.

Q: 10. Is the lens have a filter thread ?

A: Yes, the Sirui 50mm Anamorphic lens has a 67mm.

[11] First off. These have to be one of the best budget anamorphics you can get your hands on as of early 2024.

My only small grip is the inconsistent squeeze factor on the 50mm. If you know that it's easy to compensate in post but I would feel a little weary handing off footage from the 50mm lens.

As for the 35mm, I really love how large the FOV is. On the flip side you have to get a subject very close to really feel the anamorphic stuff but outside of that is a very useful focal length

As an owner op these are WELL worth your money

[9.6 x 7 x 5.4"] This lens looks great, has interesting flares and has character up the wazoo. I love the distortion of this lens. It may be my PL mount, but the lens is a bit too soft at the moment at distances past 10 meters, and I'll have it checked out soon at a rental house with focus charts. Besides that, so amazing!

[T2.9] .I would characterize myself as an amateur filmmaker, or at least a serious hobbyist, who has had no experience with cinematic lenses. This lens was an absolute blast to experiment with. It's a solidly built metal body, with smooth-turning geared focus and aperture rings. It is manual focus, but with the use of focus peaking, very sharp images can be achieved. Not coming from a cinema background, T-stops are a bit mysterious to me, but the wide T2.9 aperture (which I've read is roughly equivalent to f2.1) allows lower ISOs in low light conditions. A nice bonus is the inclusion of a lens pouch. For an example from my first shoot with this lens, visit https://youtu.be/462z64lIzUc. I look forward to playing much more with this fun lens.

[1x 1/4"-20] Great results. Necessary post finishing. Unbeatable price.

[T22] The results of the Anamorphic lens on the R5c are amazing. The lens has the right amount of sharpness. The bokeh and the lens flares add a nice look to your film. I plan on buying the 75mm version when it is released :)

[50mm] Excellent value! Just make sure to buy a 82mm close-up vivitar lens set as well as it will make this lens a lot more useful and also mitigate some of its weaker points. Weight is great as well. Overall this is a very good mix of Anamorphic bliss for full frame sensors and image quality especially when you want flares a little more controlled. I'm using it with the Red V-Raptor VV.

[1.8x] After reading the review in NewsShooter I thought I'd give these a go. They are my first anamorphic lenses (usually so expensive).

Even though I'm using this on my URSA Mini (super 35) with PL mount, the image captured is lovely - probably the sweet spot of the lens. It's full of character, but not too much. Sharp enough, but not clinical. The mechanics feel good and smooth build quality is solid.

They are quite a nice wide anamorphic 1.8x squeeze. For some recordings of the landscape in our valley, I wanted to capture a full panoramic. So recording to the full sensor (16:9) and then de-squeezing without cropping I ended up with a 3.3:1 panoramic. Obviously I won't be delivering a commercial project in that aspect ratio, but for my home recordings it's lovely to see such a vista captured in one shot.

I can highly recommend.

[1.8x] Surprisingly amazing little anamorphic lens. Sharp & full of character when paired with the Red Komodo.

[T2.9] I am not really able to compare it to the others in the set yet… but it’s a safe bet this is the weakest of the 4 or 3if FF only. Partially just from to the focal length not conveying the look as strong as the wider lenses but also it really works best stopped down a tad…as it’s rather soft wide open. However I am def still very impressed by the overall quality and quality of these… they don’t feel cheap just small … shockingly small. The 100mm in PL is smaller than my RF 50mm f1.2! Impressed by this but it comes at the cost of some obvious chromatic aberrations… still for the money this is great and 1.5x may seem to enough squeeze the bokeh and flares look very anamorphic to my eyes shockingly so.
If you order just one maybe the 45mm 65mm or if your on smaller than 17mm high S35 sensors… get the 35mm . This lens great but don’t make it your only option.

[82 mm] I bought a set of Viltrox anamorphic lenses, which are amazing, but I wanted something smaller and lighter for my FX6/Ronin 4D. These Blazar lenses are a lot of fun. I only have the 65 so far, which I find wide enough for most situations without having the issues in the corners that the 45 had. Waiting to try out their new ones, I just need something slightly wider and another slightly tighter. Waiting to hear what they say about the new additions.
