A versatile and portable dual-sided light modifier for controlling and directing light, this Photoflex LiteDisc Silver/Black Reflector 12"from Photoflex LiteDisc Silver/Black Reflector 12"has a 12" diameter, and can collapse down to 5.25" in diameter. The front side is a metallic solid silver color that produces a hard light quality with increased contrast and specular highlights. The reverse side is solid black which significantly reduces reflected light and is ideal for creating shadows on a subject or scene. The fabric is double-laminated for high reflectance and durability, and uses a double-riveted steel spring frame to ensure a consistent shape over time, while maintaining a flat profile when expanded. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I am using this with a telescoping arm, as shown in the picture, do I need to purchase one at 20mm and one at 16mm to accommodate the varied arm diameters?

A: The two sizes are the different rod sizes of the LiteDisc Holder Compact. These are replacement parts.

Q: 2. Why is the inner surface not smooth? What benefit does this have?

A: If it were shiny and smooth then the light it casts would be somewhat similar to that of a parabolic reflector such as the ones found in many flashlights or automobile headlights. As such, it would be much brighter in the center than around the edges. The textured surface reflects the light in many directions and thus provides for a more even beam.

Q: 3. Would one of these holders hold the larger 42 x 72 rectangular discs or would we need two to hold in in place?

A: definitely 2 ! And you still need sandbags! But it works awesome as long as it's not too windy. The wind can be challenging.

Q: 4. how many f stops does it use in sunlight ?

A: Approximately 2 stops

Q: 5. Is the 16.2mm the maximum size of the hole and can I use it with a 12.7mm shaft?

A: The Photoflex Small Clip Collar with Knob for LiteDisc Holder has a maximum opening of 16.2mm. It would not be suitable with a 12.7mm (about 0.5 in) shaft.

Q: 6. Can I put on this boom microphone

A: The Photoflex Telescopic LiteDisc Holder (870256) is built more for the LiteDisc than to hold accessories. There isn't much to counter balance. There is a 3/8 stud at the back end, and a flush-top 5/8 stud at the front end. A light-weight mike may be able to be attached to either end.

Q: 7. How do I know which size reflector to buy? I see 5 , 10 , and 12 as choices. Are they for different size bulbs? Do they have different beam angles? Are the larger reflectors deeper, or just wider?

A: The difference between these is your photography needs, not the light source/bulb.

Q: 8. Hey there, between silver or white interior, which is the best choice?

A: There is no best its all situational. White is softer and Silver is brighter.

Q: 9. Will a par38 bulb fit inside this reflector? I'm looking to create a narrow spot and want to use this to help eliminate spill.

A: yes

Q: 10. What's the best way to clean and maintain this lite disc?

A: You can clean reflectors a little with a damp cloth, but ultimately they are consumables that will get dirty or fall apart and need to be replaced.

[Black, Silver] You would not believe the difference this makes in your photo. I mostly use the gold side to add that special tone in my subjects.

[Circle] This is a great little reflector to throw into your light kit for fill light on those single-person interviews. I also have a gold/white reflector for adding a little color to a face. Very handy.

[0.15 lb] If you ever do outdoor portraits at a time other than that perfect couple of minutes just before sunset, a diffuser is an exellent aid. It does very well at softening hard shadows and elimenating the squinty looks from your subject. And as an added bonus, it works extremely well for getting a horse to look alert for a photo. Although, discretion is advised in order to avoid having your subject buck off. As with all the PhotoFlex exuiptment that I've used, this seems to be a well made and durable product. The 42 inch size works well for waist up or sitting portraits of one person or two if they aren't too large. Trying to do more than that might be somthing of a feat.
