The Tiffen 86mm Coarse Thread Double Fog 3 Filtersimulates the effects of natural fog or mist by creating a soft glow around highlights and lowering the overall contrast of the scene. When compared to the standard Fog filter, this filter places greater emphasis on lowering the contrast while maintaining sharpness and minimizing the effects of flare. The 3 density provides a noticeable amount of fog effect and requires no exposure compensation.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

[0.3 lb] A fellow bugshutter happens to live in an area with a lot of morning fog and cranks out great landscapes thereupon. I've tried everything short of axle grease on a clear filter to get the same effect, as it's not often foggy in Western, PA and there are tons of landscapes that would look great with it. Researching effects filters, I cam upon this baby and it seems to do the job pretty well--particularly with images and subjects under infinity. It won't completely replicate a foggy day, but if you don't want to pay for fog-effect plug-ins for you image management software, it's a great way to go. Doubles as portrait diffuser as well. Worth a look for the digital camera user. And it's a Tiffen--my own go-to for 40 years. 5
