The Neumann KMR 81 i Shotgun Mic SEO Titlefrom Neumann KMR 81 i Shotgun Mic SEO Titleuses a combination of a pressure gradient transducer and an interference tube. If the wavelength of the frequency is longer than the tube length, the microphone works as a pressure gradient transducer. At higher frequencies, it operates as an interference transducer for lateral sound. Off axis sound sources are picked up with reduced level, but without coloration. Therefore, the microphone is well suited to record individual instruments of an orchestra. The pickup areas of several shotgun microphones may even overlap as, for example, during recordings on a large stage, without causing any problem.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the interior length of this case, or maximum length boom pole it can fit? Only exterior length is listed.

A: Although interior dimensions for the RODE Boompole Bag for Boompole, Shotgun Mic, Softie and Shock Mount have not been provided by the manufacturer, it is made of soft neoprene material and the interior length will be very close to the exterior length of 39".

Q: 2. Would this work for Canon RF 24-70mm lenses made for Canon mirrorless cameras?

A: You're better off with the 88mm to 90mm ring if you're using the Canon RF 24-70mm f2.8 lens.

Q: 3. is the RME BABYFACE PRO FS compatible with an ipad pro?

A: Yes the RME Babyface Pro FS is compatible with iPad Pro.

Q: 4. Can you recommend a mic stand adapter for this? Say's the diameter is .75"

A: You can use a shockmount like the Auray SHM-ESG Suspension Shockmount for Shotgun Microphones (B&H # AUSHMESG),the RODE SM4-R Suspension Shockmount (B&H # ROSM4R), the Airo by K-Tek ASM1 Shockmount 1 (B&H # AIASM1), or the Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shockmount (B&H # AUAT8415).

Q: 5. I have the Canon 24-70mm USM lens which size would be best for the focus gear?

A: We have found the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens to have an 82mm diameter for its focus ring. As such, the Tilta Seamless Focus Gear Ring (81 to 83mm) should work great for it.

Q: 6. why would you choose the short version over regular?

A: A short shotgun microphone is good for use with compact cameras and often preferred for run-and-gun setups. A short shotgun microphone can pickup audio from several feet away and longer mics have the ability to pickup audio from a further distance. So if you were recording sounds that are further away, you would want to use the longer microphone.

Q: 7. Any experiences with the Sigma 18-35 and Sigma 50-100? Which size would be best?

A: The Sigma 18-35mm Art lens has a 78mm diameter, you would need BH #TITAFGR788 instead. While the 50-100mm has a 93.5mm diameter and you would need a universal gear like BH #WILU for that one. https://bhpho.to/3kOCoMI https://bhpho.to/309Ib7v

Q: 8. Which size will fit the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 mark II focus ring?

A: Since the outer diameter of the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 mark II lens' focus ring is 82mm, the 81 to 83mm would be the best fit.

Q: 9. What's the zoom ring size for rf 15-35 and rf 70-200?

A: Unfortunately, The new Canon RF lens models have not yet been tested by Tilta. Tilta provides the following ruler to help you measure your lenses for their Seamless rings. https://bit.ly/3oUrrgH

Q: 10. Is this mic capable with the Sony a7 IV ?

A: The Deity Microphones S-Mic 2S Moisture-Resistant Short Shotgun Microphone requires a 48V-enabled XLR connection, which is not found directly on the Sony A7IV Camera. To connect the Deity S-Mic 2S to a camera such as the Sony A7IV you would need to implement a camera mixer such as BH #SASRPAX1 Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, which would provide the preamp needed by the Deity S-Mic 2S and calibrate the audio signal to the level expected by the Sony A7IV audio input.

[Solid-State] I shoot commercials and documentaries. Great sound and short enough to mount on camera if needed for hand held shooting in documentary style filming; I can use wide angle lens w/o seeing my mic in shot. The clarity of peoples voices are great. Things not so great... although a definite superior field mic, other sound guys don't know this mic and are looking for another old standard.

[-10 dB] I've used this for a couple of interviews so far and it sounds great. Very well made. Not sure what to make of the suede windscreen but most of the time I run without one since I'm indoors.

[Phantom Power] Not sure I would have made the purchase for the normal price of $250, but B&H sale for $170 was hard to pass over. Proximity effect is quite nice.

[Low Cut/HPF] This is by far the best sounding microphone I have ever heard for female voice on stage. It really makes a difference. It is much better than the "standard" dynamic vocal mics. The audience will notice the difference. Even at this price, it is a bargain.

[48 V] The D1 arrived yesterday, it was well packaged. The value is outstanding. The case is very decent. The advertised SNR is 78dB, probably about right. The hypercardioid pattern is very focused with good off axis noise rejection.
I've had the D2 for a year or so and like the build quality, extremely solid. The D1 is not as indestructible as the D2 but seems durable enough.
The D1 being able to be battery powered allows it to be used where the D2 cannot. For example, I can use it instead of a lapel mic with my wireless transmitter. Sounds great.

Metal construction, very little noise presence.
Lots of necessary attachments and a fantastic case comes along with!

[1.06 lb] If you're looking for Best Bang for the Buck Check out Rode microphones. If you're looking for Cost no object Check out the Schoeps. If you want lush sound, a reliable mic, with a name you've grown to love: Neumann. This is the Hollywood sound (when Hollywood sounds good!)If the price is too high, check out the used market, you might save a grand. Anything else, hey if it's a great deal on a used or demoed mic then sure there are other brands I'd be excited about. DPA is one. Audio Technica & AKG will work. I'm curious about Beyer. Sanken I hear is amazing. However, as I said in the beginning: Rode/budget, Neumann/heck yeah! & Schoeps/I'm in Heaven.

[End Address] I perform at least 5 nights per week. Typically piano and pop. Very top 40. All the money I spent through the years looking for the perfect sound and trying to save money...Had I budgeted at first and purchased this, I would have saved almost 4 times the cost of this mic. Yes it is expensive, about $. However, 20 years of compromising cost me big. The 104 plus is nothing less than Studio Quality, made for stage use. Every frequency I battled before has been pulled into line without much fuss. It seems automatic. I began 1 week ago with this, and the audience stops and turns toward me. Thank you Neumann and B&H Photo.
