The Tilt-Shift 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC Lens for Nikon from Rokinon is a wide-angle, full-frame lens fitted with the perspective control and tilt-shift functions. A tilt-shift lens allows the user to control perspective and correct convergence of lines within your frame, useful especially in architecture, landscape and product photography. The optical tilt mechanisms enable precise control of depth of field along with perspective control. It is compatible with both digital and film formats with an angle of view of 83.5º and on an APS-C size sensor has an angle of view of 59.9º and focal length equivalent of 36mm.

The tilt-shift function on the 24mm f/3.5 lens allows adjustment of the focal plane by an angle of +/-8.5º and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by +/-12mm. The tilt-shift section of the lens rotates left 90º (click-stop adjustment each 30º) and the lens mount can rotate left or right by 90º (click-stop adjustment each 30º).

The lens is comprised of 16 elements in 11 groups, including two aspherical lenses and two Enhanced Dispersion (ED) lenses, which reduce aberrations and provide sharp details and accurate color separation. Multi-layered, anti-reflective UMC coating on each lens element allow even light transmission, minimizing flares and ghosting.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. On a cropped sensor body like the d7100, will this be too tight for interior compositions? Thank you.

A: Yes, especially shooting condos less than 1000sq ftYou'll need at least full frame with this 24mm or 19mm. Also the shift function will stop short at +8mm because of the built-in flash on these Nikon bodies.

Q: 2. I have considered the Canon Tilt-shift lens but I can't afford it yet. How happy are you with your Rokinon Tilt-shift lens? What are the pros and cons of this lens so far?

A: Rokinon lenses are great options at an affordable price. If you are not able to afford the more expensive Canon Tilt Shift Lenses, this Rokinon will give you great results.

Q: 3. will the flex lens shade fit this lens?

A: Yes, the Flex Lens Shade http://bhpho.to/1vARsyR will fit the Rokinon Tilt-Shift 24mm f/3.5 lens.

Q: 4. Since this is all-manual, I presume it can be used on a Z mount with a converter?

A: Yes, the Rokinon Tilt-Shift 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC Lens for Nikon is all manual and will work on a Z mount camera with the FTZ adapter purchased separately.

Q: 5. What about the Nikon D5600, or is tight due to the crop sensor?

A: Will work fine on the D5600.

Q: 6. Does TTL metering work with this lens?

A: TTL metering will work with your camera and flash when using this lens.

Q: 7. What's the difference between this lens and the Samyang version? They appear the same. I'm thinking about using one on a Nikon D3x.

A: Same lens, different labels. Samyang is the actual lens manufacturer. The other are just re-branding.

Q: 8. Can you control the aperture with the camera body, as the Nikon PCE lenses do ?

A: As the Rokinon Tilt-Shift 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC Lens for Nikon does not have CPU contacts to transmit communication between the camera and lens, you would have to focus the lens manually and adjust the lens' aperture on the lens itself. You would not be able to adjust the aperture using the dials on the camera body; it must be controlled by the aperture ring built into the lens.

Q: 9. Has anyone tried this on an EOS R/RP? The display shows "f00" when I mount it to my RP.

A: This is a tilt-shift lens and by its nature, it is manual and not electronic. Since there is no electronic connection, the f/stop is not communicated to the camera and the metadata. It is one of the things we have to put up with to enjoy the great features of tilt shift lenses. You may wish to see this article about the lens in B&H Explora. https://bhpho.to/2JfkqS8

Q: 10. Is there issues with the range of motion of this lenses using asp-c cameras? Is this lenses designed for full frame cameras or crop sensor only?

A: This Rokinon Tilt-Shift 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC Lens for Canon is designed to cover full-frame Canon image sensors, and is therefore also compatible with smaller Canon APS-C crop-sensor cameras.

[Full-Frame] This is a very nice lens and I look forward to many years of beautiful images. Before I purchased the lens I was taken aback by a number of reviews that complained about the tilt and shift locking knobs not tightening properly.

To clarify, on page 22 of the owner's manual Nikon states, "The lens does not lock completely by turning the shift and tilt lock-release knobs. This is not a malfunction. Turning the shift and tilt lock-release knobs too tightly to lock the lens or forcibly shifting/tilting the lens when it is locked can damage it."

Okay, all you he-men out there? Firm but not too tight get's the job done.

[24mm] Best used for Architecture, some usefulness for Landscape if you need to Scheimpflug. If you don't know this word you don't need this lens. Best way to correct perspective while putting camera a right level to record scene. Next best thing to a view camera. Good: Great optics, sharp, contrasty and easy to understand. Outstanding build and overall excellent piece of glass on a D800. There is remarkably little distortion for a 24mm lens. Electronic stop down function is clever and helpful. The movements are surprisingly extensive. I rarely have need of tilt function. Not perfect: Slight barrel distortion easily corrected in your raw editor. Knobs are small but if larger would interfere with camera body and certain movements. I classify this as a concession to reality. There is some vignetting at maximum shift at wide apertures but I've rarely needed that much shift on assignment. Stuff you'll want to know: This has manual focus and manual aperture setting. On this lens you set the aperture but focus and compose wide open, the camera (most of them, check compatibility chart) stoops down at shutter release. On the older version of the PC lens (the one without tilt) it was easy to forget to twist the aperture ring after composing and focusing. Few current DSLRs have view finders designed for manual focus. They are small and dim compared to film SLRs of yore. You'll need plenty of light for accurate focus. However, at 24mm inherent depth of field of the optic is great so you won't find it impossible to get acceptable focus if you stop down a couple of stops.

[f/22] As a professional photographer with wide-ranging photo interests I have wanted to purchase a TS lens for years but was deterred by the intimidating price of the Nikon TS for my limited usage. Fortunately I came across the Rokinon 24mm TS just before embarking on a Fall color excursion to Colorado. Although I had limited opportunities to use this lens, and had it only a few days before the trip, I was pleased to find that the learning curve was very small. Even more pleasing was the resolution quality. My normal go-to lens is the formidable Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 for my landscapes. But in the vastness of the mountain environment it fell short, literally, in the wide angle compositions as did the equally formidable Nikon 16-35 f/4 VR. The most impressive aspect however was the ease of manual focusing and the resulting sharpness, which rivals both the 24-70 and 16-35. I'm now hopefully looking forward to the introduction of a Rokinon 85mm TS. And thanks to B&H expedited delivery the 24 was delivered in time for my trip after ordering it on short notice.

[Nikon F] I purchased the 24mm to shoot Real Estate interiors and would only use it for those jobs. One day I started carrying it around in my walk-about backpack when cruising downtown Indy and found that the other 10 lbs of prime lenses in my bag were pure dead weight. Shooting w this and experimenting w the functions causes you to think differently than w the 14-24 or a really sharp prime. I find using it makes me better at composing and the sharpness can't be beat. I find /8 to be the sweet spot but not by a mile.

[82 mm (Front)] This lens is both useful and great for creativity. To line up the shift rail with the object to be photographed (eg. tall buildings), you press a tiny latch (which may be a little too small and too sticky) and simultaneously twist the lens. With the maximum rotation of 90 degrees, while the lens shifts 2 ways, this means shifting will cover 2 opposing 90-degree wedges. Shifting in the other 2 quarters will require rotating the camera itself. Next you adjust the tilt axis, which starts from whatever angle it already rides through with the previous shift rotation. This is also 90 degrees max, and again by pressing another tiny latch and twisting the outer half of the lens. Shifting will ameliorate the optical distortion typical of tall buildings, which should please architects and real-estate presenters. But if you're keen on playing, there's no stopping you to over-shift on purpose. The tilt feature is the real sell though. Basically it rotates the focus plane (which conventionally is parallel to the picture plane). This rotation can be up to approximately 80 degrees. So for intstance, from a normal standing position, you can get all of a large tabletop, or even a flat grass meadow, into focus. But I like best to fix the focus plane at odd angles, to catch objects in space seemingly at random. In this kind of free plays, turning the focus ring will cause the focus plane to move across the picture, instead of in the conventional far-near direction. I must mention this lens is no kinky boutique gadget, just because it's built for these unconventional features. The images it produces are tack sharp wherever you situate the focus plane. It is great for macro-like applications, with the advantage of extending the DOF by bending the focus plane. And when set back in the normal configuration, it becomes just a normal tack sharp 24 mm prime. (That is, if you don't mind lugging around all that bulk and weight.)

[Manual Focus] This lens is well-constructed and suits my purposes for landscape photography. I'm sending it to Nikon USA so that it can be modified for the shift and tilt to be in the same axis. It's to bad it isn't sold with this arrangement.

[f/3.5] I have used the Canon TS lenses for years.Recently my 24mm lens developed a problem with the filter thread and was difficult to thread filters I use particularly neutral gray for longer exposures. I had read multiple reviews of the Rokinon 24mmTS lens ,some of then rather negative. This lens is excellent, the coverage is a good as the Canon without vigneting ,as indicated by one reviewer. Sharpness is good, color and contrast as good as the Canon. The only negative is the less than solid construction and the smaller controls. These are true negatives and I would wish they will be made sturdier in next generations.

[24mm] No surprises here. Super sharp. The shift lock could be better, but I imagine it's an engineering challenge in such a small space. As it is, I'm afraid of overtightening the tiny knob, and this leaves me hoping the lens doesn't creep down during a vertical shift. And please, Nikon, consider a redesign with independent tilt and shift sections. But I bought this lens aware of the limitation, and it performs perfectly.

[f/3.5] I purchased this lens for a special architectural assignment. The images it produces have exceeded my expectations, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
