The 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC Tilt-Shift Lens for Nikon from Samyang is a wide-angle, full-frame lens fitted with perspective control and tilt-shift functions. A tilt-shift lens allows the user to control perspective and correct convergence of lines within your frame, useful especially in architecture, landscape and product photography. The optical tilt mechanisms enable precise control of depth of field along with perspective control. This 24mm f/3.5 lens is compatible with both digital and film formats with an angle of view of 83.5º and, on an APS-C size sensor, has an angle of view of 59.9º and focal length equivalent of 36mm.

The tilt-shift function on the 24mm f/3.5 lens allows adjustment of the focal plane by an angle of +/-8.5º and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by +/-12mm. The tilt-shift section of the lens rotates left 90º (with 30º  click-stop adjustment) and the lens mount can rotate left or right by 90º (with 30º  click-stop adjustment).

The lens is comprised of 16 elements in 11 groups, including two aspherical elements and two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements, which reduce aberrations and provide sharp details and accurate color separation. Multi-layered, anti-reflective UMC coatings on each lens element allow even light transmission, minimizing flares and ghosting.

[82 mm (Front)] First of all, this lens is completely manual. The aperture controls of this lens are on the lens and are not accessible on the camera. There is no metal ring for the camera to control the aperture of this lens. I knew this before I purchased this lens so I was fine with this. If you have a camera that does not meter through the lens you will not have metering (like crop sensors D5300 etc). When you make the aperture smaller from the aperture ring of the lens the view through the camera gets darker. So, at this point you will have to take a few pictures to make sure you are in proper metering. No big deal with a digital camera. The lens is big and sort of square. I have a D600 and I can get to everything on the lens though it does get a little tight. There is a lot of cool stuff you can do with this lens. Just search tilt shift on youtube for examples. Compared with the $2000 price of the Nikon tilt-shift this is a very good option. If you have the money this is a good lens to purchase.

[82 mm (Front)] I went back and forth between this and other focal lengths, and settled on this one. I could not be happier. The pictures are crisp and sharp, and the panoramic photos using the shift are really great. Take the time to find a few on-line tutorials on how to use the lens, and then go out to test its various features. I got it primarily for architectural and landscape photography, and it is better than I had hoped.

[Full-Frame] This lens is well-constructed and suits my purposes for landscape photography. I'm sending it to Nikon USA so that it can be modified for the shift and tilt to be in the same axis. It's to bad it isn't sold with this arrangement.

[Full-Frame] Aunque su control es totalmente manual (enfoque, apertura), en seguida aprend a manejarlo. Buen contraste y hermoso color, su desenfoque de forma artstica es fantstico. Para un buen enfoque puedes usar el modo Live View de tu cmara y acercar la imagen. Encantado con la compra.

[Full-Frame] Seemed like you can do anything to a image post, including selective focus (for Tilt), transform (for Shift). Why would anyone want to buy a specialty lens like a T/S?

To me it's the creative process of doing a image capture in camera, vs image manipulation on the computer. Plus you use your whole camera sensor to capture an image vs cropping your image on the computer (thereby loosing resolution) to achieve similar results.

Pros: Price, ease of use - remember "manual"? ..focus, f-stop ring, unlocking knos, dials, release lever.. take your time and you will have no trouble with the operation of this lens. Image quality is more than adequate with my D810.

Not the top of the line T/S with the silky smooth operation. If you have to T/S the lens against gravity (like shifting up vs down in a vertical composition, its best to support the lens and help it up instead of using only the adjustment dial)

Having a fine instrument can be a bliss, but the price out weights my occasional need of buying a $2,200+ Nikkor equivalent.

[Manual Focus] This is a very nice lens and I look forward to many years of beautiful images. Before I purchased the lens I was taken aback by a number of reviews that complained about the tilt and shift locking knobs not tightening properly.

To clarify, on page 22 of the owner's manual Nikon states, "The lens does not lock completely by turning the shift and tilt lock-release knobs. This is not a malfunction. Turning the shift and tilt lock-release knobs too tightly to lock the lens or forcibly shifting/tilting the lens when it is locked can damage it."

Okay, all you he-men out there? Firm but not too tight get's the job done.

[Nikon F] I purchased the 24mm to shoot Real Estate interiors and would only use it for those jobs. One day I started carrying it around in my walk-about backpack when cruising downtown Indy and found that the other 10 lbs of prime lenses in my bag were pure dead weight. Shooting w this and experimenting w the functions causes you to think differently than w the 14-24 or a really sharp prime. I find using it makes me better at composing and the sharpness can't be beat. I find /8 to be the sweet spot but not by a mile.

[Full-Frame] Made in Japan Nikon quality, solid and heavy.
The lens is still new to me and there is some shooting needed to learn its ins and outs. Ex: Matrix metering on D850 over exposes when lens is tilted.
