Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this include the permanent desk mount shown in photo? (Or just clamp)

A: Yes. There are two mounts included with the BA-XE4. One is the C-clamp mount and the other is the permanent flange mount.

Q: 2. Can I leave the AA battery in or do I need to remove it when I'm done recording?

A: You can leave a AA battery inside of the RODE NTG2 Shotgun Microphone as long as you will be using the mic again within a few days. Otherwise, it is always best to remove the battery from an electronic device that will not be used for a while in order to prevent damage from problems caused by the battery leaking.

Q: 3. what is the difference between this and the rde videomic pro

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is designed as a compact camera mountable solution. Generally used with DSLR or smaller camcorders. Both offer great sound quality, however since directionality of the pickup is related to the length of the mic tube, the NTG-2 offers a more narrow pickup and more effective at rejecting surrounding ambience.

Q: 4. Can the XLR cable be easily removed?

A: Yes, the XLR cable can be removed (and replaced, if required), though it may not be an easy task.

Q: 5. Can the NTG2 be made wireless with a Rodelink News Shooter wireless cube transmitter and reciever?

A: Yes it can, the Rode TX-XLR transmitter is able to provide power ( 48v phantom power) to the NTG2 making the mic wireless. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1187383-REG/rode_news_shooter_newsshooter_kit_digital_wireless.html

Q: 6. What battery does it take?

A: The Battery The unit uses an A23 battery which is located in the Sender. The positive end of the battery should be pointed inwards, away from the cap Twist the cap to turn the unit on or off.

Q: 7. Is it compatible with DSLR cameras?

A: Not exactly. The cable attached to the mic is XLR and that is typically run into a separate recorder such as a Zoom H4n or similar. I think you could get an XLR to headphone jack adapter to plug into a DSLR if you can choose the mic input on your camera to accept audio. It's recommended to attach this mic to a separate audio recorder and sync the footage and audio in post. This is a very good mic.

Q: 8. will this work well as a boom mic or the Rode NTG 2 for short films. I use zoom h5 or at times the h1.

A: yeah, totally, We use it like a boom mic in several works

Q: 9. I'm sorry, I should have clarified my last question - I was asking if the stud/spigot that mounts to the base clamp is 5/8" in width? I'm planning on using a different clamp with a 5/8" receiver. (BH#SACSGC) Thank you.

A: The base stud/spigot is not specified.

Q: 10. Does this come with the webcam/iPad mount?

A: This does not include an iPad mount.

[Blue] It's hard to go wrong with Canare Star Quad cables and Neutrik connectors, and there is little to say about them except they work as you would expect and the quality is high. You can find a lot of fancy cables that cost more, but they don't sound any different, that's all snake oil. Star Quad, Accept No Substitutes.

[Blue] You wouldn't use anything else other than Canare Starquad and Neutrik connectors for your cables, but why spend a lot of time making them yourself when you can buy them for so cheap? I have bought several of these premade cables, and I have opened the connectors and inspected each, and they all look great. The only thing I would do differently is shrink the ground and boot the solder joints with shrink, but that's because I'm fussy. I do not have any doubts that these cables will hold up for years.
