Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work with El Capitan? Is anyone using it with 6TB drives? Does it allow for easy mounting and unmounting of drives while there are two hardrives connected? any crash issues or kernel panic warnings I should know about?

A: I have El Capitan running on a SSD in the dock, no problems, crashes, etc.

Q: 2. can I install 4TB NVME cards to this? if so what are they?

A: Yes, you can use 4TB M.2 NVMe SSDs in the HighPoint RocketStor 6661A-NVMe Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe RAID Adapter. I'd recommend the Crucial 4TB P3 Plus NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 Internal SSD, B&H # CRCT4000P3PS.

Q: 3. I have a WD10JPVX hardrive trying to connect to this from a usb 3.0 slot and nothing is happening when I plug it in. I have files on the hardrive but dont want to delete them. Also this is showing up as a keyboard im pretty sure in my device manager, I have a feeling this is the driver issue anyone know where to find the drivers or can help?

A: We would suggest troubleshooting your USB port with other USB 3.0 drives.

Q: 4. With two SSDs, can this external RAID easily handle UHD video editing?

A: Yes, with two SSDs, the Samsung 1TB 870 EVO SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD and USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C RAID Enclosure Kit can handle UHD video editing. This kit only comes with one SSD, so you'd need to add another Samsung 1TB 870 EVO SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD (B&H # SAMZ77E1T0B, https://bhpho.to/3L2Q7Ov) to have two SSDs in a RAID configuration.

Q: 5. Can this enclosure also handle 2x samsung 8tb ssd?

A: Yes, the Samsung 4TB 870 EVO SATA III 2.5" Internal SSD and USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C RAID Enclosure Kit can also be used with two 2.5" 8TB SSDs.

Q: 6. Does this support encryption?

A: Yes, you can use encryption software with the Highpoint RocketStor Enclosure.

Q: 7. Will it work with a 6TB hard disk? In the product information you say that the RocketStor 5212 max. drive capacity per bay is up to 4TB. But HighPoint website says the dock max. drive capacity per bay is up to 8TB, and even it has no capacity limitations. I am a little confused. Could someone please solve my doubt?. Thank you.

A: I ordered one after reviewing their website. I use 6TB and 8TB drives in my USB3 docks and expect them to work just fine in the RS5212. I also expect that higher capacity drives will be supported as they are made available. Use any Drive: Future proof-storage upgrades! The RocketStor 5212 benefits from HighPoint's persistent compatibility testing, which ensures full compliance with all current and upcoming SATA storage devices. The RocketStor 5212 is fully compatible with any off-the shelf SATA drive; from ultra high-capacity 8TB hard drives to blazing fast 6Gb/s SSD's!

Q: 8. Can this be used to copy an mSATA with an OS installed to a new mSATA with a SATA to USB adapter and the new mSATA intalled in laptop where old one was? Any advice on doing this? uh, thanks *thumbs up + good karma*

A: Yes, the Sabrent mSATA to 2.5" SATA III Adapter BH #SAECMSSA would allow you to use it to clone an mSATA SSD to another one. I would recommend using the free version of Macrium reflect. That will allow you to clone the old SSD to the new one. Once that is done, you can install the new one and it should boot up from there.

Q: 9. Can each thunderbolt be used to connect a different host computer so each can access drives at the same time?

A: The two ports are for daisy chaining devices but only one computer can be attached to a DAS at once.

Q: 10. Does this work with USB4?

A: No, the HighPoint RS6614V 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure requires a Thunderbolt port on the host device. A USB4 port on a host device may not be compatible with this RAID enclosure.

[Yes] SSD7101A-1 is a great card. I installed 4x Samsung 970 EVO+ to be used for rendering and I get 13,000 MB/s.

A motherboard with 16x lanes is best for performance. It does come with a RAID software.

[Yes] I use this to connect to a HighPoint RocketStor 5322 Dual-Dedicated 6 Gbps eSATA Storage Dock. The purpose I use this setup for is Removable Backup Drives that are stored in the Safe to protect the data from Theft and Fire. I want to make an important note about Windows 8 and the use of this product. - Windows 8 and later shuts your computer down in a Hybrid Hibernation state, so that your computer starts up faster (if your OS is on an SSD it makes no difference in speed). If you leave this option turned on, it will not allow this controller to use the Drives connected to it as hot swappable and you will have many issues. If you turn this option off in Windows 8, everything works perfectly. - To get to this option in Windows 8 to turn it off, go to the Start button then click the magnifying glass for search and type po bu (stands for power button). Under Shutdown settings un-check Turn on fast startup (recommended). Click Save Changes at the bottom and then Re-start your computer. That is it, it will work perfectly now. I did not come up with that fix on my own I contacted HighPoint when I was having the issue and they first saw if they could recreate the issues I was having in their Lab and they were able to and told me they would contact me again when they have the issue resolved. A week later they contacted me and told me this fix for my OS. The issue had nothing to do with their hardware or software but an OS setting and they figured it out for me. I find that a rare thing these days and will Trust this company for future purchases if I need them.

[0.42 lb] This is my 3rd RAID Tower from Highpoint. I started with a thunderbolt, upgraded to the thunderbolt 2 and now this one. Snappy response and pretty easy to setup, take your time and it’s start forward. B&H was great, I ordered and it was here in two days, safely packed!!! Thanks B&H!

[Low Profile] It arrived a lot faster, initially it was going to take 4-6 weeks. The product is very well built, materials are very good quality. Adding drives was extremely easy. Connection to Mac Pro tower through SAS controller was easy. Everything about the product was absolutely fantastic. I will be filling it with 12tb drives, should make for a very nice storage array. Speeds are very nice as well.

[8 x 7 x 1"] This card has it's own bios that boots when you boot the computer. I have 2 sets of HDD's configured as RAID 1 (mirrored). Great for secure storage. If the computer fails, it should not affect the data. If you blow a HDD, you can replace it and the array will rebuild itself. You can take the entire assembly and move it to another computer without data loss. It integrates itself for drive configuration as if it were plugged into the SATA bus. One caution....Make sure you purchase RocketRAID and not just a RAID card. The RAID card doesn't have the spin down function.
