Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this connect into my 5d Mk III without using a Tascam device as a middle-man?

A: The Rode NTG-2 is able to be powered via AA battery, and with the included Kopul LMT-100 cable, an be connected directly to the input of the Canon 5DmkIII.

Q: 2. Can the NTG2 be made wireless with a Rodelink News Shooter wireless cube transmitter and reciever?

A: Yes it can, the Rode TX-XLR transmitter is able to provide power ( 48v phantom power) to the NTG2 making the mic wireless. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1187383-REG/rode_news_shooter_newsshooter_kit_digital_wireless.html

Q: 3. Is the xlr to mini cord compatible with a 3.5mm jack? Like, could I just just use that cord and connect it straight to my camera through the microphone jack?

A: Yes that's what that cable is for. Mini is just another name for 3.5mm.

Q: 4. Is it compatible with DSLR cameras?

A: Not exactly. The cable attached to the mic is XLR and that is typically run into a separate recorder such as a Zoom H4n or similar. I think you could get an XLR to headphone jack adapter to plug into a DSLR if you can choose the mic input on your camera to accept audio. It's recommended to attach this mic to a separate audio recorder and sync the footage and audio in post. This is a very good mic.

Q: 5. How long does a single AA battery last in the mic?

A: While there isn't a published run time for AA, as they vary too much and also depend on the chemistry of the battery, on average you can expect around 50 hours (+/-)

Q: 6. What is an affordable Pre-amp to use with this mic for a Nikon D750?

A: I bought the Tascam DR060D MarkII and have been happy with it. I've never used a pre-amp or recorder so it was a bit of an uphill climb to learn a bit about audio production. Now that I've experimented with it for some time I'm quite comfortable with it. It eats up batteries so you definitely want to use rechargeable batteries. I bought a LifeCharge external 16,800 mAh external battery. There's also a power option that works off of house current.Curtis Judd is knowledgeable about audio and he reviews the 60D MkII. You can search for his channel on YouTube. He also has a video wherein he reviews several recorders options. Sorry B&H doesn't want links in my answer.Good luck.

Q: 7. What is the minimum equipment required to get this working with my Panasonic GH4? Just and XLR to TRS 3.5mm converter?

A: Yes! If your using an on camera solution.

Q: 8. Does this come with a hotshoe mount?

A: The Rode NTG-2 will ship with a stand mount only. There are many shoe mounts available. The Auray DUSM1 is a compatible mount, and offers excellent shock protection. a href= http://bhpho.to/1gXv7Tw target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1gXv7Tw/a

Q: 9. what is the difference between this and the rde videomic pro

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is designed as a compact camera mountable solution. Generally used with DSLR or smaller camcorders. Both offer great sound quality, however since directionality of the pickup is related to the length of the mic tube, the NTG-2 offers a more narrow pickup and more effective at rejecting surrounding ambience.

Q: 10. I'm sorry, I should have clarified my last question - I was asking if the stud/spigot that mounts to the base clamp is 5/8" in width? I'm planning on using a different clamp with a 5/8" receiver. (BH#SACSGC) Thank you.

A: The base stud/spigot is not specified.
