Designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this 18-200mm offers users a vast wide-angle to super telephoto range equivalent to 27-300mm.

A variable f/3.5-6.3 maximum aperture helps keep the lens' overall size and weight to a minimum.

Extra-low dispersion glass is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.

Aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur. This lens also offers an Active Mode which provides stabilization, even at the wide end, when shooting movies.

Enjoy smooth zooms ideal for shooting movies with the power zoom mechanism which can have its speed adjusted to suit different styles and needs.

An internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more responsive autofocus, the minimum focus distance of 11.8", and easier handling as the lens does not change in length during use.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a Sony FS-100 and would like a servo zoom lens. This looks like the ticket. However, I can't seem to find the hand grip with the rocker switch. My FS-100 does not come with the same hand grip that the FS-700 comes with. Any ideas?

A: There is a rocker on the lens. That's what I used when it was attached to my FS-100.

Q: 2. Is this a parfocal lens?

A: Hmmm. Good question. I guess if you use it in auto mode it seems to stay in focus but I will not say it's a true parfocal esp with such a wide focal range. If you focus in close and then zoom out it's probably very good but I'd say that it's probably not although I have not actually investigated how well it remains in focus.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with phase detect auto focus on the a6300? I've seen mention where it is not.

A: I have a A6000 & the lens works fully with all focusing modes. You should check with Sony to see if the hardware updates in the A6300 present any compatibility issues with the lens.

Q: 4. Will this lens fit inside genuine Sony NEX7 holster ?Thanks.

A: This lens will not fit inside of the Sony Body Case and Lens Jacket for the NEX-7 B&H # SOLCSELC7B.

Q: 5. I have a Sony NEX-6 with the 6-50 OSS lens. I want to get a telephoto zoom and trying to decide which one to get and whether to get an 18-200 or a 55-200?

A: This is one situation where it seems the 18-200mm lens may slightly out-perform the two-lens setup of the 16-50mm and 55-210mm lenses. While image quality does typically prefer the two-lens setup, the 18-200mm lens is well-designed (as indicated by its price), and the main struggles it would have would be with chromatic abberation, and slightly with distortion on the wide-end of the zoom; however, even for the all-in-one lens, it performs better than the 16-50mm lens at 16mm natively. When using the 16-50mm lens and the 55-210mm lens, some of the optical issues can be corrected simply by activating the camera's Distortion Correction feature, which also assists in correcting for vignetting. Basically, if you are on a budget, the two lens setup would be a good option, using the camera's Distortion Correction feature, but if you need a one-lens-does-all solution, then the 18-200mm lens is a good option on the NEX camera platform.

Q: 6. In manual focus mode is the lens driven mechanically as the user turns the ring or electric drive like the Sony PZ18-105 Gf4 where user turns the ring and waits for a motor to miss focus again and again and again?

A: In manual focus mode, the lens moves mechanically.

Q: 7. is this Lens weather proofed?

A: No, the Sony E PZ 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS lens is not a weather-sealed lens.

Q: 8. Not a par focal lens. However, if used on an FX30 would the auto focus compensate enough while zooming stage events?

A: No, the Sony E PZ 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens is not a fast enough or consistent when zooming and relying on autofocus to be accurate.

Q: 9. Is there any firmware update for this lens?

A: At this time there are no new firmware updates for the Sony E PZ 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens.

Q: 10. I understand the limitations using this on an Alpha 7r. But what lens is sold with this configuration that does not have those limitations and is a full frame lens? Either Sony or Zeiss. Thanks

A: Unfortunately there is not a full-frame version or equivalent of this type of lens for the full-frame E mount at this time. Below are a link to all the current full-frame lenses available for the camera system for you to regard:http://bhpho.to/1pq1pyK

[Autofocus] I'm so sad that when I've got Sony FS-700 almost a year ago I was not able to get it with this lens, and take it with regular 18-200mm Kit Lens... I wish only about TWICE faster speed for fast zooming mode in this lens! Current fast zooming mode is not fast enough...

[8.5 x 5 x 5"] I use this on my FS 700 and it is very good. It hold focus as you zoom and it looks nice. Much better than the old SEL 18200 still lens. The motor feathers at the end of a zoom nicely.

[Yes] I wanted a GOOD tele zoom. I have a third party tele zoom lens that I had hoped would work well. It was a disappointment. This lens is more than I was hoping for. Great color, exceptionally sharp photos and more. On 24MP files digital zooming in Lightroom means I doubt I'll ever need a longer zoom. And it covers wide angle exceptionally well too! Other than the lens hood being a little funky (I believe its made more for movies than still shots), I have no complaints and I'm VERY HAPPY I spent a few extra bucks to get this lens!

[67 mm (Front)] The is is by far my favorite Sony lens. It is a great all around since it covers r the full frame equivalent of a 27-300mm, and if you use clear image zoom you can extend the range to 600mm, meaning you can do everything form landscape, architecture, portraits to sports and wildlife. This is one of two Sony lens for the nex and Alpha line to have active image stabilization while recording video, the active image stabilization is way better that OSS, so much better that you can hand hold your camera at 200mm and still get smooth video. I use this lens all the time for video since it makes most of my shots look like a did them with a tripod, including handheld pans and tilts. If could only buy a lens it will be this one. It has its draw backs, is slow If you are using to in a low light scenario, but must of the newer cameras you can set your ISO to higher number without getting a lot of noise on you image, a small price to pay for the convenience, and a trade I am willing to make.

[8.5 x 5 x 5"] I got this lens included with my VG30 and I must say I really enjoy it. The focus and zoom rotate very smoothly. The only thing that bothers me is the bump at the bottom of the lens. It makes it alittle uncomfortable to handle, but overall a great lens.
