The Dcode SB-T Trilevel Syncbox Generator With 3D Time Code from Denecke reads, generates, and jams to all the standard frame rates including 23.976 for High Definition video. The outputs include time code and video sync in PAL and NTSC, as well as Trilevel for HD shoots. The Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) ensures low drift. High stability and ease of use make it useful for any high or standard definition shoot.

The Dcode SB-T generates all common SMPTE time code rates and video references in 1920 x 1080 (Sony) and 1280 x 720 (Panasonic) HD standards. Standard Definition (29.970 fps non-drop & drop frame) and PAL (25 fps) black burst or color bars are generated as well. Three LEDs indicate battery status, sync / internal run, and presence of external power.

Three AA batteries power the SB-T or it can be powered externally through a 4-pin Hirose or a 5-pin Lemo (sold separately). The amber LED indicates the battery status. If it is Off, it means the battery is good (assuming unit is On). If the LED flashes once per second, it means the battery is low, and if it flashes twice per second, it means the battery is dead. The batteries should be replaced as soon as possible when dead battery is indicated. External power is indicated when the red LED is on. When external power is removed, internal battery power change over is automatic and the red LED turns Off.

The sync LED (green) indicates whether the SB-T is in a Jamsync mode or in an Internal Run mode. The sync LED flashes once per second (at the start of the frame 00) when in Jamsync mode or if the SB-T has been running in Internal Run mode for 10 minutes. The SB-T features an automatic Jamsync capability which re-jams to any break in time code without the need to power down.

The jam occurs at the 00 frame so cross jamming of different rates can be accomplished. Internal Run mode is indicated by the sync LED strobing. When the SB-T is turned on without time code present at its input, it will generate its own time code / video reference starting at 00:58:30:00.

The TC frame rate and video reference are dependent upon the switch settings. Pressing the set button will increment the minutes, while holding down the set button will scroll the minutes. The minutes roll over into the hours, therefore enabling control of the hours and minutes. The time code rate rotary switch serves 2 functions. It selects a time code frame rate as well as a video reference. For example, position 4 selects 23.976 fps time code as well as a Trilevel sync video reference.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this slate illuminate in Blue? or is it just white?

A: The Denecke TS-C Compact Timecode Slate has a blue backlight.

Q: 2. What is the type/size of the power jack and is it threaded for a locking DC connection?

A: This uses a 3.5mm plug at 7-12 volts with tip positive.

Q: 3. How can I get it to work as a Commander with my Nikon Df.

A: Unfortunately it is only able to be used as a commander when mounted on the D810 and D750 model cameras. It can serve as a slave to other commander-enabled flashes mounted on the DF however.

Q: 4. I'd like to power the TS-C with an external power source. Can someone tell me if B&H sells a compatible one?

A: The Denecke TS-C Compact Timecode Slate (Color Clapper, EL Backlit) can only be powered via six AA batteries, which is not something we currently have a power adapter for.

Q: 5. What's the highest FPS for this timecode generator? 30 FPS?

A: This unit offers frame rates of 23.97, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30fps.

Q: 6. Does this work with Sony FS5?

Q: 7. There is no what's in the box information provided here. Is there a storage case or similar that comes with the SB500? A separate base to mount the flash off camera?

A: There is a soft drawstring pouch that is included, not a case. And yes there is a small mount to use should you want to use it off camera.

Q: 8. What kind of marker can this be used on this slate? Need something that can b updated fast. Not sure if permanent marker will work.

A: You will want to use Dry Erase Markers, like this set from Best Rite which is B&H # BE554E4.https://bhpho.to/2fmfw85

Q: 9. Can you use this with a tentacle sync box so you can use this on a c70 and the tentacle sync on a bmpcc 4k?

A: For best results, it is recommended to use matching timecode generators for maximum compatibility, for Tentacle systems and for Denecke Dcode SB-4 Syncbox Timecode Generator systems. For use with a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and a Canon C70, we would recommend 2 of the Tentacle Sync units. Tentacle also uses a proprietary software for matching the jammed signals.

Q: 10. What's the battery life on a single set of 6 AA batteries?

A: Running on 6 AA batteries would power the Denecke TS-C for a period of 3 full working days.

[5.7 to 16 VDC] Deneke makes solid gear. If you want something you don't have to think about this is your TC unit. The menu is simple and straight forward. The size is incredibly small. You can hide this unit under cameras with Velcro. Did I mention I was blown away by how long the battery lasts.

[48+ hours] This is an accurate industry standard little box that will keep your audio and cameras in sync.

Denecke has been making timecode boxes for a long time and this truly little thing can last days with it's battery life. It doesn't have all the fancy apps and functions that the other brands have, but you are sure you will have reliable sync with the rest of the crew and won't need any app functions anyways.

The only thing it doesn't have is genlock, but most of the time timecode with bnc cables is all you need.

[5.7 to 16 VDC] This lil guy displays easily readable TC, it's navigation is simple, it stays charged for a LONG time and it has an industry standard LOCKING connector (bnc), all while being cased in a durable aluminum housing. If there is any problems, customer support is here in California and I know I got my back covered. Camera team loves them for size and ease of use. Unless you need genlock, these are some VERY impressive units! So far so good!

Easy to rig on the camera. Best sync box ever.

[5.7 to 16 VDC] This gets the job done without much effort. I shoot on a movi pro and this is the best solution for gimbal work where timecode is needed. More accurate than the tentacle sync and you dont need an app to run it. Just jam from your mixer and plug into your cams, and done!

[10 x 6.7 x 0.8"] Denecke came through with this little guy.

I've been waiting for a small, durable, bnc locking, tc reading, long battery lasting, usb charging, auto frame-rate syncing tc sync unit for a while now.

And here it is...

[0.8 lb] The Denecke JB-1 T/C sync box is one of the best, because it is easy to use, small in size and very reliable.

[5.7 to 16 VDC] If you know TC then you know Deneke. If you need the best gear then you need Deneke. This little thing holds TC and hides anywhere on the camera. With Camera's getting smaller and less places for velcro, the size of this Syncbox make's a big difference.

Side note, if you need to cross jam, this unit has the ability to cross-jam. Other TC syncboxes have dropped this functionality. Very useful for once in a blue moon.
