Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will the Blackmagic 6K Pro control the electronic aperture?

A: Yes, ZEISS Milvus 21mm f/2.8 ZE Lens for Canon EF has the electronic contacts on thelens mount which would allow Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro (Canon EF) to control aperture and other electronic feature on the lens. The focus is the only manual operation that you can not control through the camera.

Q: 2. What is the diameter of the focus ring? I would like to put a gear ring to use a follow focus, but I need to know the diameter to buy an exact ring.

A: According to Zeiss, the focus ring diameter is 73mm.

Q: 3. Would it be correct to assume that the clicks aperture control on these lenses applies only to the Nikon mount, not the Canon?

A: The canon version does not have an f/stop ring and the Nikon version does. The Nikon version also comes with a tool so you can convert the f/stop ring to de-clicked.

Q: 4. Where is the Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 Lens F mount manufactured?

A: The COI for the ZEISS Otus 1.4/38 is Japan.

Q: 5. Is there chromatic aberration with this lens? I have it on my zeiss 28mm

A: The CA characteristics of the Milvus 1.4/50 are improved over the Classic Planar 1.4/50 and can be further controlled via profile corrections in software tools, such as the defringe feature in Adobe Lightroom.

Q: 6. I love Zeiss lenses & currently own milvus 25mm & APO Sonnar 135mm lenses. I currently have Sigma 85mm Art lens & thinking of buying a Milvus 85mm or Sigma 105mm Art lens & sell 85mm Art later. I shoot portraits using live view, so manual focus is not an issue. From purely optical quality perspective, which lens is the better in terms of bokeh, color, micro contrast, sharpness an subject separation ability?

A: My recommendation is to rent the lens and compare. Many of the attributes you call out are subjective and cannot be measured / compared between brands. The only way to know for sure is a side-by-side comparison using the same camera, lighting and subject matter.

Q: 7. Will this lens work with Nikon Z mount with FTZ adapter?

A: All manual focus assist and focus confirmation are available when connecting ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F to a Nikon Z mount body using the Nikon FTZ II adapter. You will also need to locked the aperture ring and control F- stops through the camera.

Q: 8. Between this and the Milvus 18mm f/2.8, which is sharper?

A: The ZEISS Milvus 21mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F and the Milvus 18mm f/2.8 are equally as sharp. The difference is in the focal length.

Q: 9. Can I use LEE Filters Foundation Kit with the LEE Filters Adapter Ring 95mm for Foundation Kit. Has it vignetting? Thank you.

A: You cannot use the Foundation Kit (100mm filters). It's too small for such a wide angle lens. The LEE SW150 II (150mm filters) system works perfectly. I use the SW150 II filter holder and 95mm screw-in style adapter ring (sold separately) with this lens. It works perfectly. There is no vignetting at all. I use 150mm NiSi filters with this system. They fit fine, and the filters are of higher quality. The downside of such a large filter system is the high price and the amount of space they take up. The image quality you can get out of them with this lens though is unparalleled. Hope that helps.

Q: 10. Is this manual aperture

A: No, the aperture on the ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/1.4 ZE Lens for Canon EF is controlled from the Canon camera body.

[Glass] I often shoot women who just want that softer look and no matter how I tweak the lighting, they aren't happy. This filter is the magic weapon that works every time.

[Glass] I wanted to try out a soft filter and enjoyed the results I got from this. I was able to keep the details in my portraits and still soften up the skin.

[Glass] As standard practice in the portrait studio I like using the Soft/FX1 because it provides just enough help to take the hard edge off a portrait. Now that I have the FX2, I find it's my choice for some faces. Its effect is still fairly subtle, but can sometimes be too soft for a younger customer's portrait when it is to be used in professional publication. I can't say I notice any flare or fog effect. Technically the FX series filters aren't a translucent milky material. It would be more accurate to describe them as clear glass with hundreds or thousands of very, very small bubbles trapped inside that act as lenses.

[Glass] I bought the filter for use with a Sony PMW-EX1 video camera. I use it primarily for interviews and find that it gives a nice soft look.

[Glass] Having worked with filters extensively when shooting with my film cameras over the years, I knew that if the softening feature on my new camcorder proved unable to do what I needed that a filter or combination of filters might just save the day. Although the Tiffen soft fx filter #3 is not sold for use with video, the results were exactly as expected. Once again, Tiffen came through 110%

[Glass] This is a very nice diffusion filter that effects small line without softening the overall image. I use it mainly for video productions. The only caution you should take, is if you're using a still camera lens on a video camera, and thus only using part of the lens. This will actually increase the strength of the filter and diffuse the image even more, maybe more than what you want.

[Glass] Informal portraits. Extreme closeups of electronics. Environmental photography. Wildlife photography. Extreme closeups of human anatomy.

[Glass] Just enough softening to relax the hardness' in a portrait. Does not create any fog or flare. Love using this filter in the studio for both women's and men's formal portraits.
