Schoeps Mk 2 Microphone Capsule | High-quality Audio

Schoeps Mk 2 Microphone Capsule | High-quality Audio
  • Product Code: eq173278
  • Availability: In Stock

$2,997.00 $3,806.19

The Schoeps Microphone Capsule MK 2 has a flat frequency response for frontal sound incidence. This yields a very natural sound when recordings are made within the reverberation radius, where the direct sound (frontal incidence) predominates over the reverberant sound (random angles of incidence). The MK 2 is often used for acoustical measurement.

A mechanical adapter (type AMBK 1, from 20 mm to 1” diameter, sold separately) can be used only with the nickel-finish version of the MK 2 for calibration with B & K devices (sold separately) because of dimensional tolerances.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm wondering: is the SSH-6 as good as the SGH-6 in terms of directional 'power'? Or do i need to move it closer to the subject than with the SGH-6?

A: I conducted several tests using both the SGH-6 and the SSH-6. The SSH-6 is 1 inch longer than the SGH-6. The end of the microphone was moved back by 1 inch for each SSH-6 test. So, the distance from the end of the microphone to my mouth was always the same for both. I conducted the tests at 6 inches, 1 foot, 2 feet, and 3 feet. In each case to achieve a level above 12 dB but below 6 dB I adjusted the gain on the microphone. In all cases the two microphones required the same gain. The side stereo level on the SSH-6 was set to 0 dBfor all test. So, I would say to your question, Yes, the power and beam for the shotgun portion of the two microphones are the same.

Q: 2. if I place this device 18 away from my mouth, what is the gain level to reach -12db, and at what gain level before I can hear self-noise?

A: I don't know but this mic is the best mic I have used on this recorder!!

Q: 3. What kind of distance will this work with, roughly?

A: There is no specification for the operating distance. Variables like ambient noise, sound level of the subject, indoors or outdoors, size and composition of the inside space and flooring, wall and ceiling are all factors to consider. In general - get your mics as close to the source as possible.

Q: 4. which one is best zoom ssh-6 or zoom sgh-6 ? if ssh-6, can i use only directional separately if i don,t want the ambience sound?

A: Both the Zoom SSH-6 and SGH-6 are excellent mic options to use with the Zoom H5/H6 recorders. Which you use depends on your application. The SSH-6 is stereo, and the SGH-6 is mono. The stereo mic will be great for recording ambience, special effects, music at a distance. The mono mic is useful for dialogue recording, especially in high noise environments.

Q: 5. What are the exact dimensions of the ssh-6 microphone?

A: Exact dimensions for the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule for H5, H6, U-44 and Q8 have not been provided by Zoom.

Q: 6. Does this mic record to three tracks; the mid to one, and the stereo side to two? If not, how would one go about mixing dialogue with ambient sound in post?

A: It is only 2 tracks. The mono mic will pick up the dialog as any shotgun would straight ahead. Then the desired amount of side can be mixed in accordingly.

Q: 7. Is the SSH-6 compatible with the Zoom F1? I have seen both yes and no. If so, does the F1 give customization options to change amount of ambient input like the H6?

A: yes just tried the F1 and SSH-6 combo and this is possible. By cycling through the REC LEVEL button you control the side mic level. Options are StGUN OFF, StGUN 30, StGUN 60, StGUN 90, StGUN 120, StGUN 150

Q: 8. Im looking for mics to record a concert in a cathedral. Which would work better for that kind of recording? This mic, or the XYH- 6 capsule?

A: I would recommend the Zoom XYH-6, because it replicates the way we would hear a performance, while sitting in front of the stage. Be aware that both the Zoom MSH-6 and Zoom XYH-6 are mic capsules that only work with Zoom recorders with the Interchangeable Microphone System.

Q: 9. Can we mix the directional shotgun mono with the stereo ambience in post? Or is the mix embedded into the audio track as set on the device?

A: The mix will be a mid-side stereo track. You would need mid-side decoder plug-in software to separate the mono mic and the bi-directional mic stereo track in post production.

Q: 10. What is the Bit-depth and Frequency that it records at?

A: That is dependent on the recorder being used with this capsule. When using this with the H5 or H6 recorder, you can record at 24 bit, up to 96k sample rate.

[7 x 4.5 x 1.5"] Its a Schoeps, how can you go wrong?! I bought it primarily for music m/s recording. And I look forward to its performance.

[20 Hz to 20 kHz] Can never fault these microphones, but wish the case had cut outs for the included clips included like the standard stereo set does.

[0.1 lb] This camera might be the one you need! I personally love this camera and soon as I put it to work I could so many details in my face. Blemishes, freckles mustache hairs, just everything was super crisp and I would say with some good settings you may not need a DSLR camera. The one issue I ran into, was flicker with some of my background lighting only on HDR settings. I was able to fix that but turning the brightness down on those lights. This camera is amazing

[16 mV/Pa] This camera was a great upgrade from the previous original face cam. I feel like it captures true colors so well and makes my look quality without a DSLR. On the software side, my favorite feature is the pan/tilt. Overall, this is a great camera, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade.

[Nickel (ni)] MK22 cartridges are halfway between the MK21 Wide Cardioid and the MK4 Cardioid - fairly directional but with extended base response. I frequently record in highly reverberant venues, such as cathedrals. Used as space microphones, the MK22 gives a clear sound with good stereo image, and a good balance with ambience. I plan to use them on a 1 meter stereo in ORTF configuration, with a pair of spaced MK22 microphones. Omnis tend to be muddy in this application and cards lose the warmth I seek. The MK22s will form the core sound - everything else is just for emphasis. MK22s are also effective for chamber music, often in conjunction with a pair of MK2H (far field) Omnis.

[7 x 4.5 x 1.5"] The new CMC1 is great, super small, awesome for gigs. I have it for only 2 weeks, but the few times I used I was very happy!

[Nickel (ni)] While it took 11 weeks for them to arrive (due to Covid), I am very pleased to have this matched pair. They are great as a main pickup or for spot mic'ing. When neither a cardioid or an omni capsule will do, this is the perfect choice.

[Nickel (ni)] I'm using the MK8 with a Schoeps miniCMIT for my M/S setup and I'm extremely pleased with my field recording and SFX results. I wouldn't trade this for anything.

[Nickel (ni)] Schoeps says that there's no discernible difference in sound quality, but when I heard this one, I put my CMC6 up for sale immediately.

The higher SPLs do make a difference; and to my ear the CMC1 has a more clean and transparent sound to it. I know that sounds lame, but it's hard to describe. This CMC1 is amazing.

HIGHLY recommended.
