Schoeps Mk 4v Microphone Capsule Nickel Finish

Schoeps Mk 4v Microphone Capsule Nickel Finish
  • Product Code: eq173297
  • Availability: In Stock

$2,997.00 $3,686.31

The nickel finish MK 4V Microphone Capsule from Schoeps maintains directional response even at higher frequencies because of its acoustically transparent housing. This microphone capsule has less high-frequency emphasis of off-axis sound.

The MK 4V Microphone Capsule features a cardioid capsule with its main axis along the side. In addition to its usefulness in a concert hall, this capsule type is of particular value in speech recording since its slight emphasis around 10 kHz helps improve intelligibility. This microphone capsule can be used for speech applications using the PR 120 SV Pop Filter (sold separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this mic record to three tracks; the mid to one, and the stereo side to two? If not, how would one go about mixing dialogue with ambient sound in post?

A: It is only 2 tracks. The mono mic will pick up the dialog as any shotgun would straight ahead. Then the desired amount of side can be mixed in accordingly.

Q: 2. What are the exact dimensions of the ssh-6 microphone?

A: Exact dimensions for the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule for H5, H6, U-44 and Q8 have not been provided by Zoom.

Q: 3. What kind of distance will this work with, roughly?

A: There is no specification for the operating distance. Variables like ambient noise, sound level of the subject, indoors or outdoors, size and composition of the inside space and flooring, wall and ceiling are all factors to consider. In general - get your mics as close to the source as possible.

Q: 4. if I place this device 18 away from my mouth, what is the gain level to reach -12db, and at what gain level before I can hear self-noise?

A: I don't know but this mic is the best mic I have used on this recorder!!

Q: 5. Will this mic fit in the skb 1209 case? I read here that it won't due to its longer length compared to the other model shotgun mic

A: The SKB iSeries Waterproof Case for Zoom H6 Recorder and Mic Modules available on our site is customized to fit the Zoom SGH-6 Shotgun Microphone which is slightly smaller than the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 6. Is the SSH-6 compatible with the Zoom F1? I have seen both yes and no. If so, does the F1 give customization options to change amount of ambient input like the H6?

A: yes just tried the F1 and SSH-6 combo and this is possible. By cycling through the REC LEVEL button you control the side mic level. Options are StGUN OFF, StGUN 30, StGUN 60, StGUN 90, StGUN 120, StGUN 150

Q: 7. Can I dj with it?

A: Yes, the MK-58 PRO can be used for DJing as well as any vocal and speaking applications.

Q: 8. What is the Signal-To-Noise Ratio for this?

A: At this time, the SNR is not specified by the manufacturer.

Q: 9. does this work in a car?

A: The MK-58 Pro requires a preamplifier. It will not operate when connected to a line level input such as an aux input on a typical car stereo.

Q: 10. When using this in RAW (mid and side recorded separately, to balance later in post, rather than blending while recording) on the H5, can the H5 still record a second back-up track at reduced gain? From the little I've read on the tech of mid-side, I'm thinking it could work: capsule's stereo file 1 of 2 is mono-mid on left channel and mono-side on right channel, leaving capsule's stereo file 2 of 2 to record same at -12dB. Good guess, or wishful thinking?

A: Yes!

[13 mV/Pa] It's a beautiful microphone. I bought it because I wanted something clean that I could distort according to my needs in post and this has that flexibility as well as having a standalone beautiful sound.

[13 mV/Pa] I'm using the MK8 with a Schoeps miniCMIT for my M/S setup and I'm extremely pleased with my field recording and SFX results. I wouldn't trade this for anything.

[13 mV/Pa] Its a Schoeps, how can you go wrong?! I bought it primarily for music m/s recording. And I look forward to its performance.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] MK22 cartridges are halfway between the MK21 Wide Cardioid and the MK4 Cardioid - fairly directional but with extended base response. I frequently record in highly reverberant venues, such as cathedrals. Used as space microphones, the MK22 gives a clear sound with good stereo image, and a good balance with ambience. I plan to use them on a 1 meter stereo in ORTF configuration, with a pair of spaced MK22 microphones. Omnis tend to be muddy in this application and cards lose the warmth I seek. The MK22s will form the core sound - everything else is just for emphasis. MK22s are also effective for chamber music, often in conjunction with a pair of MK2H (far field) Omnis.

[13 mV/Pa] While it took 11 weeks for them to arrive (due to Covid), I am very pleased to have this matched pair. They are great as a main pickup or for spot mic'ing. When neither a cardioid or an omni capsule will do, this is the perfect choice.

[13 mV/Pa] They're Schoeps so there's little to say about that. I've used this stereo set in a variety of ways. From recording choirs to field recording train stations and dance rehearsals. They're crystal clear and capture sound exactly as you hear it. It's incredible how compact they are. The preamps are compatible with other Schoeps Colette capsules so there's a lot of modularity you can get with this set.

You're making a big investment with this stereo set and you get what you pay for.

[13 mV/Pa] The new CMC1 is great, super small, awesome for gigs. I have it for only 2 weeks, but the few times I used I was very happy!

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] I have four 84s and had to have a pair (from 1975) serviced for capacitors and a bias adjustment. One of the capsules had a loose need/pin and caused that mic to almost sound like an omni. Probably a backplate problem. I had the capsule replaced with a new one from Neumann and can't believe how perfectly it matched the other old one from the pair. No noticeable difference between the two, even next to each other above a drum kit. Amazing.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] Schoeps says that there's no discernible difference in sound quality, but when I heard this one, I put my CMC6 up for sale immediately.

The higher SPLs do make a difference; and to my ear the CMC1 has a more clean and transparent sound to it. I know that sounds lame, but it's hard to describe. This CMC1 is amazing.

HIGHLY recommended.

[13 mV/Pa] Can never fault these microphones, but wish the case had cut outs for the included clips included like the standard stereo set does.
