Schoeps Mk 4v Microphone Capsule Matched Pair Nickel Finish

Schoeps Mk 4v Microphone Capsule Matched Pair Nickel Finish
  • Product Code: eq173310
  • Availability: In Stock

$6,204.00 $9,119.88

The nickel finish MK 4V Microphone Capsule with Matched Pair from Schoeps maintains directional response even at higher frequencies because of its acoustically transparent housing. This microphone capsule has less high-frequency emphasis of off-axis sound.

The MK 4V Microphone Capsule features a cardioid capsule with its main axis along the side. In addition to its usefulness in a concert hall, this capsule type is of particular value in speech recording since its slight emphasis around 10 kHz helps improve intelligibility. This microphone capsule can be used for speech applications using the PR 120 SV Pop Filter (sold separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I dj with it?

A: Yes, the MK-58 PRO can be used for DJing as well as any vocal and speaking applications.

Q: 2. if I place this device 18 away from my mouth, what is the gain level to reach -12db, and at what gain level before I can hear self-noise?

A: I don't know but this mic is the best mic I have used on this recorder!!

Q: 3. Is the SSH-6 compatible with the Zoom F1? I have seen both yes and no. If so, does the F1 give customization options to change amount of ambient input like the H6?

A: yes just tried the F1 and SSH-6 combo and this is possible. By cycling through the REC LEVEL button you control the side mic level. Options are StGUN OFF, StGUN 30, StGUN 60, StGUN 90, StGUN 120, StGUN 150

Q: 4. does the SSH-6 require phantom power?

A: No idea, but as long as you connect it to a Zoom audio module like the F1 (the one I have), etc... it will be powered. This is for sure not a stand alone mic. It is designed to be used on capsule compatible zoom recorders. Not your question but let me tell you this thing is amazing ! Cheers.

Q: 5. Can this remote be used for the Zoom H6?

A: The correct remote to be used with the Zoom H6 is the Auray RC-ZH6. The RC-ZH5 is designed for the H5.

Q: 6. Does this work with the H8?

A: Yes, this will work with the H8.

Q: 7. What is the Signal-To-Noise Ratio for this?

A: At this time, the SNR is not specified by the manufacturer.

Q: 8. Does this mic record to three tracks; the mid to one, and the stereo side to two? If not, how would one go about mixing dialogue with ambient sound in post?

A: It is only 2 tracks. The mono mic will pick up the dialog as any shotgun would straight ahead. Then the desired amount of side can be mixed in accordingly.

Q: 9. The exact diameter and length of the mic isn't listed. I'm trying to find a foam screen for this mic. I'm aware the mic comes with a windscreen. Can anyone help me out?

A: The Zoom SSH-6 has a 1 diameter. It is also about 6 long. The Auray WSF-2216 (B&H # AUWSF2216) is currently the best available option. It is a bit longer than 6 , which means you will probably have to cut it slightly to fit the microphone.

Q: 10. Is it possible to record the M and S mics on separate channels for matrixing in post? Can you do this with the Q8? Thanks in advance.

A: There is an option to either enable or disable the mid-side matrix. If you disable it and you record in MOV+WAV format, one of the WAV channels will be the shotgun mic and the other will be the side mic. Please note side is a single source in a figure-8 pattern, not two different sources (left and right side). If you are going to do post-processing and want to control the ambient sound in the mix, definitely disable the matrix. It is quite straightforward then to mix in the ambient sound in post production. You may have to split the stereo WAV file, depending on what DAW you are using.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] I bought the KM 184s to do slight reinforcement of a solo piano concert in a small concert hall, if needed. So glad I did! I went with the KM 184 because it was a favorite of the professional pianist, for both recording and live. Used just one, positioned at the crook of the lid on high stick. With very minor amplification, it rounded out the sound perfectly. Without doing an A/B test you probably wouldn't even notice it, but it improved the performance perfectly and unobtrusively. Looking forward to putting these to more use!

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] The new CMC1 is great, super small, awesome for gigs. I have it for only 2 weeks, but the few times I used I was very happy!

[13 mV/Pa] Can never fault these microphones, but wish the case had cut outs for the included clips included like the standard stereo set does.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] On top of the fantastic sound quality, with the stereo setup you can easily hear where and how far the source of the sound is - easy to choose how much close details to pick up vs more natural sound from a bit of a distance.

[13 mV/Pa] I have four 84s and had to have a pair (from 1975) serviced for capacitors and a bias adjustment. One of the capsules had a loose need/pin and caused that mic to almost sound like an omni. Probably a backplate problem. I had the capsule replaced with a new one from Neumann and can't believe how perfectly it matched the other old one from the pair. No noticeable difference between the two, even next to each other above a drum kit. Amazing.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] Excellent clarity for a 100 member symphonic band recording mic. Very pleased with the purchase.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] They're Schoeps so there's little to say about that. I've used this stereo set in a variety of ways. From recording choirs to field recording train stations and dance rehearsals. They're crystal clear and capture sound exactly as you hear it. It's incredible how compact they are. The preamps are compatible with other Schoeps Colette capsules so there's a lot of modularity you can get with this set.

You're making a big investment with this stereo set and you get what you pay for.

[13 mV/Pa] MK22 cartridges are halfway between the MK21 Wide Cardioid and the MK4 Cardioid - fairly directional but with extended base response. I frequently record in highly reverberant venues, such as cathedrals. Used as space microphones, the MK22 gives a clear sound with good stereo image, and a good balance with ambience. I plan to use them on a 1 meter stereo in ORTF configuration, with a pair of spaced MK22 microphones. Omnis tend to be muddy in this application and cards lose the warmth I seek. The MK22s will form the core sound - everything else is just for emphasis. MK22s are also effective for chamber music, often in conjunction with a pair of MK2H (far field) Omnis.

[13 mV/Pa] Well, these Neumann mics are just the very best I have ever used for acoustic guitar. I've tried everything, all the way up to the highest quality ribbon mic, and these small diaghram Neumann mics are just what's needed. I have not compared them with competing quality small diaghram mics, but this is a great stereo pair for what I need - recording classical guitar and steel string acoustic guitar. I'm looking no further.

[13 mV/Pa] While it took 11 weeks for them to arrive (due to Covid), I am very pleased to have this matched pair. They are great as a main pickup or for spot mic'ing. When neither a cardioid or an omni capsule will do, this is the perfect choice.
