The Genelec 8050B Active Studio Monitor 8" Singlefrom Genelec 8050B Active Studio Monitor 8" Singleprovides an accurate reproduction of the source material in a compact form-factor with high output. Its die-cast aluminum enclosure features a rounded shape, which minimizes distortions caused by edge diffraction. The metal dome tweeter is surrounded by a smoothly-shaped Directivity Controlled Waveguide, which helps to create an even response when listening both on and off axis.

The 8050B is built with Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) technology which automatically activates the speaker when an audio signal is detected, and puts it in Standby Mode when no signal is present, reducing the energy consumption to less than 0.5 watts. The 8050B features a 120 watt high frequency amplifier for its 1" tweeter, and a 150 watt low frequency amplifier for its 8" woofer. The bass response is expanded by a rear-facing reflex port, and a separately available Genelec subwoofer can be used to monitor a wider array of frequencies.

Q: 1. How thick is this pad?

A: It's not a level surface but about 2 or 3 inches.

Q: 2. Are these better than a thick yoga mat?

A: Yes, the Auray IP-M isolation pads should work better than a yoga mat to absorb vibrations created by studio monitors. But the yoga mat will definitely work better than the IP-M pads would for yoga! :)

Q: 3. Will this work with a canon eos rebel t5 ?

A: This monitor will not work with the Canon T5i. This monitor does not feature an HDMI input which is necessary.

Q: 4. What is the packed length with legs detached? This question was asked but there are conflicting answers.

A: Box Dimensions (LxWxH) 53 x 14 x 3"

Q: 5. So this remote apparently communicates with the GLM network adapter - does the GLM software need to be actively running on the host computer to use this remote, or can the network adapter simply be powered (by USB I presume) with no GLM software running?

A: Yes, the Genelec 9101A Wireless Volume Control for GLM User Kit is capable of communicating with the GLM Network Adapter when the adapter is powered with a USB adapter as well as while it is connected to a computer over USB. Pages 69/70 of the GLM Operating Manual linked here provide more details: https://bit.ly/3wIhS8U

Q: 6. Does the headphone output have enough power to drive Sennheiser HD600 headphones which are I believe 300 ohms?

A: Absolutely. The headphone amps in these products are the same as are in our mixers, dedicated headphone amps and other interface products, which support the entire range of common headphone impedances, and have been trusted for use with pro headphones (read: high impedance) for nearly 30 years.

Q: 7. Have Mackie HR824s, what type of plugs are on the Big knob passive?

A: Yes, as already has been answered, it uses 1/4 inputs and one 1/8 input that replaces 1/4 input on input B. And as mentioned, no software, no power. Just plug and play!

Q: 8. How about some dimensions?

A: Auray IP-S Surface Area - 7.5 x 9.25 (19 x 23.5 cm) Dimensions total - 7.5 x 11.25 (19 x 28.6 cm)

Q: 9. Please advise if the Genelec 8020.LSE ESPRESSO Active 5.1 Monitoring System has a 220V power supply?

A: Our units ship as 120 VAC units only and cannot be externally switched.

Q: 10. will these fit Mackie HR824?

A: No, you will need to purchase the Large size isolation pads - Auray Pair of IP-L Isolation Pads for Large Studio Monitors BH #AUIPLPK (B&H Kit) - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1191356-REG/auray_pair_of_ip_l_isolation.html/specs. Thank you for shopping at B&H!

[120W] Perhaps shameful, but I don't use these to monitor. I just wanted something for a second (desktop) system that would be good enough for me to give up head phones for general listening, and keep me from a frustrating return. I considered these for several months before making the deal at B&H. Maybe overkill, but I'm a former musician, and I know correct timbre, distortion effects, etc., and that's what I expect from playback. I've had these for six months. I run them with the desktop bass roll-off, and I have no complaints; only praise. The detail, accuracy and lack of fatigue means they get a lot of use. I just upgraded my DAC, and I can say that these monitors, like any real transducer, are very responsive to better source electronics. The driver grilles are a necessity, IMO, and contributed to my decision to go with Genelec over Focal, or the Gene 040's, as did the auto-off feature. This is just a great product, and, like most great products, comes at a commensorate price. Still considering a sub option, as a sub always enlarges the apparent sound field of a near field, or any smaller-driver speaker system, in a (usually) spectacular fashion. I can't imagine anyone not being satisfied with the designed capabilities of this monitor.

[3.0 kHz] I bought a pair of these to use with a guitar amp simulator. They sound great and allow for getting the amplifier and effects tone without having to crank up the volume to concert levels.

[150W] The sound you are getting for your money with these is spectacular. If there's any downside it's that they can sound phenomenal with the right listening position and maybe not quite as phenomenal if you site somewhere else. The vertical alignment is particularly noticeable. Luckily the rubber foot makes it easy to adjust the vertical angle, not something you are going to get from most monitors or bookshelf speakers that are in prismatic cases.

The only other slight con may be some hiss if you stick your ear right in the tweeter, but if you sit a meter away you can't hear it. I turned the sensitivity all the way down and that also reduced the hiss. With pro-level sources (my reference level is +13dBu) you don't need the gain these speakers offer.

[150W] Supurb near field experience speakers. I am using these on my desk tied into a BlueSound Node and subscribed to Tidal. Can't say enough good things about these. Even a low volume the bass is clear. No need for a sub unless you re really cranking the volume and have the room for these.

[28 lb (12.7 kg)] this is like you buy it and last for about 25 years, and the used market value are still giving you back the difference, if you hesitated this is a to go

[36.35 lb] Very accurate and neutral near-field monitors with enormous dynamic range. Perfect for hi-res audio playback as well as recording monitoring. Built in and very clever sound isolation mounts that, in most cases, eliminate the need for third-party additions. Rear panel equalization settings accommodates most environments.

[28 lb (12.7 kg)] I spent a long time looking into various 5.1 surround bass management solutions that would work with regular Windows audio as well as audio through a DAW for studio and game development use. There are various software solutions for each, but most would not give consistent results between Windows system and DAW audio.

I started looking for either a bass management hardware unit (some add latency) or a surround controller with bass management (way more expensive than this sub), then came upon the few Genelec subwoofers which have built-in surround bass management.

I only have a 5.1 surround system so I chose this sub, and am happy I did so. While the cost is higher than I would like, there aren't that many other subs that handle surround bass management, and it handles both bass management and LFE duties well. The manual is comprehensive, and there are little switches and a knob on the side that allow you to customize rolloff, boosts, power saving, 4 phases, and sensitivity.

Noise floor is very low, and it pumps out enough oomph for my calibrated small home studio even with the largest rolloff as well as the lowest input sensitivity. I'm not using it to shake the house, but rather to hear the lowest frequencies correctly while mixing and listening to all kinds of stuff. It's also smaller than some other subs, and that's a plus for my room as well.

I don't really have anything to complain about for this sub other than Genelec's pricing, but since there are few subs that handle surround bass management and I didn't find any cheaper than this, it is what it is. Great product.

[3.0 kHz] The 8030C is a fine speaker but it struggles below 90Hz and is hopeless below 60. The 7050C works perfectly with a pair of 8030C. Setting up the phase and sensitivity took maybe 5 minutes. Getting it out of the box took longer. If you have a set of Genelec monitors, especially the 8030 or smaller models, this sub is a no-brainer.

[120V] These small monitors are tiny but produce very high levels with low distortion and great clarity. Very easy to carry in the bag specific to the model. These are really incredible for the size! I have Focal Twins in the main studio and these in an auxiliary room. The white model is also beautiful and takes very little space on a small desktop.
