Distinguished by a uniquely fast and versatile design, the Canon EF-mount Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens Canon EFis an Art-series zoom, covering wide-angle to normal focal lengths. Separating itself from the pack, this zoom features an exceedingly bright f/1.8 constant maximum aperture, which suits its use in difficult lighting conditions and offers impressive depth of field control throughout the zoom range. The optical design incorporates a series of SLD and aspherical elements, which help to achieve high clarity and sharpness by suppressing various aberrations, color fringing, and distortion. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied, too, which controls lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Balancing the optical merits, this 18-35mm also sports an advanced Hyper Sonic Motor, along with an internal focusing design, to promote fast, quiet, and precise autofocus performance.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

Wide-to-normal zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-mount cameras and provides a 28.8-56mm equivalent focal length range.

Impressively bright constant f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Four aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with an internal focusing system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What if you don't want shallow depth of field but rather increased long depth of field as in a landscape?

A: use a higher f-stop number

Q: 2. Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D500 body? I'm confused by the F or G mount.

A: G is not a mount name. All Nikons have the same mount to a Nikon camera. Look for Nikon F... G is just a lens model type.

Q: 3. Will this work with Nikon D7000?

A: Yes, this lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D7000 camera.

Q: 4. will this lens work with a canon 50d?

A: It worked perfectly on my 70D which has a very nice AF system. Not sure how fast the AF will be on a 50D but should work fine.

Q: 5. Does this lens have vingetting if you use it on a gh5 with a metabones speedbooster ultra? It says the lens is designed for cameras with a 1.5x crop but the speedbooster ultra allows the gh5 to have a 1.42x crop. I am worried that the lens would not cover the entire sensor

A: It works great! Gh5 will ask you to set the focal length for the lense attached when you turn it on. Or you can hold down the button on the speedbooster while turning on the gh5 to bring up the settings. Multiple .71 by the max focal length (35 on the sigma art) to get the right focal length setting. No vingetting!!

Q: 6. Will this work on a Canon 70D ?

A: Yes, this lens is fully compatible with the Canon EOS 70D.

Q: 7. How weatherproof is the lens?

A: The only Sigma lenses that are weather sealed are their Sport lenses. If you plan on shooting in adverse conditions with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, using protective gear such as a rain cover would be prudent.

Q: 8. Do you ship to Guam?

A: B&H does ship to Guam, yes. You can find shipping times and costs by adding the item you wish to purchase to your cart and then choosing Guam from the pull down menu in the shipping calculator.

Q: 9. Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D810?

A: The Sigma 18-35mm Nikon F Mount lens is compatible with the Nikon D810.

Q: 10. Will this camera also work on a Rebel T5i?

A: Yes this lens will work in any apsc canon camera it will also work on full frame with severe vignetting on the lower focal ranges

[Autofocus] I've used this lens numerous times in the past, borrowing from friends or other photographers and have wanted to get one for myself for quite some time. Glad I finally did!
As expected from Sigma, the pictures come out super crisp and sharp. Focus control and zoom are very smooth and easy to use. The only con I've found with this lens so far is that the auto focus motor is a little slow and noise, but not a huge deal if you shoot manual stills. Definitely makes me want to buy more from Sigma.

[f/1.8] How do prime lenses compare to this one? Let me put it this way: there are better prime lenses out there. A Canon 35mm 1.4 is far superior in quality and bokeh and color and blah blah blah. But for documentary filmmakers, this is a must have because it is the best 18mm f1.8. It is also the best 21mm f1.8. And the best 24mm 1.8, and 28mm 1.8, and 35mm 1.8. You get the picture. 1.8 is usually reserved for prime lenses alone. In this zoom, you have all of these primes at your fingertips. And it is better than all those other 1.8 primes out there. Absolutely stunning in low light. Extremely sharp. Requires precision. This is not a 24-105 f4 where everything is kind of in focus, but also not. This lens can be VERY sharp. But you have to make it that way. The color accuracy is great, and it goes great with the 50-100mm f1.8. Those are the only two lenses I use now.

[72 mm (Front)] 1.8 zoom - blows away all my 2.8 lenses wide open - best build on the market - under 1k. Don't think and get this lens!

[f/1.8] I always heard great things about this lens and after way too long finally pulled the trigger on one. I was always in love with the colours of the art series lenses especially the reds, and magentas and that's pretty much maintained in this lens. It feels great balance wise so I'm not too fussed about the weight. Handles glare like a champ and I couldn't be more pleased with the contrast.

[Canon EF] Lens is mounted to a Canon R50. AF is snappy, and the lens is made of high quality materials.

[Autofocus] I did lots of research and finally settled on the Sigma 18-35. This thing is a beast! Fantastic bokeh and tack sharp. It's a tad heavy, but it's a small price to pay for the super sharp images and short DOF that you get in exchange. It's no surprise that this is one of the most talked about lenses for both photography and video!

[APS-C] I bought this lens shortly before a family event to use with my GH4 and I was blown away by the images. I'm an aspiring photographer/videographer and I feel like a pro with this lens. Images are sharp and colors look gorgeous. As a videographer using a rig with a follow focus, it was nice that I can zoom in or out without changing the length of the lens so I don't need to move the follow focus. Can't say enough great things about it!

[Canon EF] Words can't express how much I love this lens. The images this lens can produce makes me overlook it's weight. It's made for APS-C sensor cameras, but will definitely work on full frame cameras. With a crop factor that is. There's nothing bad I can say about this lens. If you're looking for a fast zoom lens then this one is for you!

[76.5° to 44.2°] This lens is really special. The results are spectacular.
The only drawback is the lack of image stablization.

[1:4.3] Okay this lens is pretty heavy. But the quality of the photos are amazing. I initially thought that quality wouldn't be as good but my expectations were exceeded. I was using a 50mm Nikon 1.8 before, but I like the 18-35 range a lot more because I can get closer to my subjects. So far so good, few auto focusing issues (misses on occasion) but I use the manual mode on this lens more since it makes it easier for me. The build quality of the lens is also amazing. I've been using it on a Nikon D5500 so this set up will suffice me until I decide to go full frame. I may even get the 50-100mm sigma lens as well.
