Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this support tungsten bulbs?

A: Unfortunately, the Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture 1-Light Softbox Kit is only suitable for fluorescent lamps or LED lamps.

Q: 2. Can I swamp the soft box on these lights with others soft boxes using a speed ring or umbrellas?

A: Unlikely unless the other softboxes are Raya products - this doesn't have a Bowens mount. You could likely rig an umbrella

Q: 3. Could I use one, two or three Savage 50W LED bulbs (B&H # SA50WLED) in some of the seven fluorescent sockets on this light head? Thank you!

A: While the Savage 50W LED bulbs have the same Edison base as the fluorescent lamps included with this fixture, they have not be tested by the manufacturer as being fully compatible. Your results may vary.

Q: 4. Is there a max wattage rating? per socket? total wattage? Are the sockets plastic or ceramic/porcelain? Will it accommodate a mix of different wattage bulbs?

A: The total wattage the light fixture is rated for is 350 watts in fluorescent bulbs. The sockets are plastic not ceramic.

Q: 5. Is there a max wattage rating? per socket? total wattage? Are the sockets plastic or ceramic/porcelain? Will it accommodate a mix of different wattage bulbs?

A: No wattage rating is specified. The sockets are plastic. I wouldn't put anything but CFL's in them. The soft box would overheat if you use photo floods..

Q: 6. What is the output equivalent of these lights when compared to the Tungsten standard, i.e., 1K, 2K, etc.?

A: LED lights in general and like the Dracast Palette TrueColor LED4000 Soft Panel are not rated in watts. LED lights are rated in Lumen, Lux and or FootCandles. The rating on this light is, 2800K: 994 fc / 10,700 Lux at 3.3' / 1 m 5600K: 825 fc / 8890 Lux at 3.3' / 1 m My guess is it is like a 500-750 watt tungsten light. But does not have the same throw.

Q: 7. Can the light level be adjusted, or is it always on ?

A: The Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture has dual rocker switches on their back panels, each of which control on/off function for 3 or 4 lamps allowing the creation of a light ratio. You can either turn one switch on to use 3 lamps, the other switch to use 4 lamps, or both switches to use all 7 lamps at once.

Q: 8. will this fixture accept other soft boxes or just the included one?

A: I believe only the included one. It takes a while to set up. Each of the spokes that tent the softbox are inserted through little sleeves down the length of the softbox and then into a hole or cavity in the face of the light fixture. Once fully assembled it's there to stay. This softbox does not collapse like most others. So it continually takes up a great deal of space. It took me several minutes to set it up and I imagine it would take the same to take it down. I bought this as a starter light for my 14 y/o daughter who is just getting into portrait photography. It's great for her and would be a great inexpensive fixture to have laying around a studio. Just know that it will take up some space. I think the photo above showing the softbox off of the light is misleading. I don't think that's possible. as the fixture itself is what gives it it's rigidity.

Q: 9. Can this be used as continuous lighting for videography purposes?

A: From a customer stand point, I have enjoyed using the Octa Fluorescent 7- socket 2 light softbox kit due to the features of using the full spectrum of lighting or cutting back half depending on my level of light needed for photography sessions. There was no change in lighting temperature during usage and it gives a nice overall lighting even if used for videography.

Q: 10. can i plug it into 220volt supply?

A: This is a multi-voltage light fixture, so you can use it on 100-240VAC.

[4x E26/E27] I only do small occasional videos and I needed something inexpensive, lightweight, easy to setup and convenient. This seemed to fit the bill. It uses cool lights and can be used for both video and still photography for light duty.

[4x E26/E27] For the price these lights are great. I replaced the fluorescent bulbs with LEDs and they worked just fine.

[200 W ] Purchased product for studio video setup and was able to put everything together first time without challenge. The lighting produced was even and produced good results. Only frustration was trying to assemble the soft boxes as the fiberglass rods took some strength to bend and fit into place. Also, having to store the bulbs seperately each time is going to get old but still, overall the package was worthwhile.

[200 W ] I got a good deal on this kit through B&H. I researched it a bit. The bulbs that come with the kit may not be bright enough for all occasions, but you can always put in brighter bulbs. The highest wattage bulbs available would be very bright, but would also be a considerable added expense. I've used it now for still photography and for video. I thought about getting the model with the dimmer which would have been very useful. But I considered my budget and am happy with my purchase. I got good sand bags as well, and six of the next voltage higher bulbs.

[4x E26/E27] I bought this 3 point lighting kit on a whim based on a B&H sale. I have a ton of lighting kits, from Arris to other inexpensive LED kits. This one works great for the money. It comes in a pretty good carrying/storage bag, with 3 cheapie but reliable lighting stands. The softboxes aren't umbrella-type, quick set up softboxes. You have to take 3-5 minutes per light to set up the 4 metal rods and attach the softbox to the fixture, AND THEN you have to screw in each of the 4 light bulbs per fixture. So set up time, this is not the fastest kit. This also means you cannot store the lights with the bulbs installed (at least, not safely in the case it comes with). When done, you have to unscrew each bulb, and store the bulbs away in a container where they won't be easily broken, then break down the kit. That's packing up 12 light bulbs as part of your breakdown routine. If you're not looking for speed, or if you have the room to leave the softboxes assembled all the time, this kit will work great. If you're primarily concerned with set-up speed, this kit might not work. Although the included bulbs are great, I swapped them out for slightly more powerful ones with a slightly different color temperature (Alzo 27W, 5500k bulbs on @, 4 for $, bigger, brighter, warmer bulbs).

[120 VAC, 60 Hz] I upgraded from the single socket impact kit. I use these primarily for product photography for Ebay. These are great for setting up and putting in a permanent place, like an at home studio. I wouldn't recommend these for someone who has to break them down and move from location to location.
