Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with the SONY WRT-820A?

A: This microphone is not compatible with any Sony systems. Your Sony wireless system requires a mic with the SMC9-4P connector, such as the Sony ECM-44BC Omni-Directional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with 4-Pin Connector,B&H # SOECM44BC.

Q: 2. Will it come with foam and clip or i have to buy it extra??

A: I have three of these. It comes with the foam and clip.

Q: 3. Is ex503h mic compatible with sony WRT820A?

A: I am afraid not. The Azden employs a 4-pin mini Hirose Your bodypack uses SONY's proprietary SMC9-4P connector. The pin-assignment may be different:Pin 1: +5 voltsPin 2: HotPin 3: ColdPin 4: Ground

Q: 4. will it work with a zoom?

A: The EX-503 will be compatible with devices that have a 3.5mm mic input jack and are able to supply plug in power to the mic. This includes the Zoom H1, H2 and H4N recorders.

Q: 5. Can this mic work with 48v phantom power?

A: No, this mic requires plug-in power, which is 2 to 10 VDC.

Q: 6. If I combine this with a MiCon-1 adapter can I use it in my RodeLink?

A: No - the MiCon adapter are for RODE lavalier mics only.

Q: 7. How long is the cord?

A: The EX503L features a 1.3 meter cable (4.26 feet).

Q: 8. Can this be plugged into a Sennheiser transmitter? The Sennheiser has a three contact 1/8inch connector, this has only two contacts. Anyone do this already? Thanks!

A: I can't really comment on Sennheiser's equipment, however, if the transmitter has a 3 contact mini-jack, it could be for a balanced connection. If this is the case, it is possible that the 2 contact plug on the EX-503L would work, it just would not be balanced.

Q: 9. I may have missed it, but I can't seem to find the length of the wire - how long is the wire? Bonus question - what would be a good extension if I needed to extend the wire?

A: The cable length is about 4 feet. I don't have a specific extension to recommend, but you'll want to look for a mono audio cable that is 3.5mm TS female to 3.5mm TS male.

Q: 10. Thanks for answering previous question. At Azden I see Azden EX-503 | Azden EX-503L | Azden EX-503H. I dint understand the potential difference among them in terms of sound quality. How to choose among these three.I want you use it for interview and documentary work with zoom H1, which one should i look for? How is the ambient sound cancellation?

A: My 14 yo has been using this item for interviews and is very happy. He has used it for school, small buisness, and religious events. There is some ambient noise when background noise is high but for routine interviews and recording speeches it works well. Value for cost is good.

[0.04 lb] I had to replace the lav microphone for an Azden WR-PRO wireless mic pack (not the microphone's fault... it literally was trampled by the talent...). I tried some quick replacements while this was in the mail, but I was glad when the package showed up since nothing could match the sound of the original. It has great pick-up while also ignoring a lot of background noise, such as a busy highway or a crowded convention hall. If you have an Azden pack, BE SURE TO GET THIS MIC. If you get an electrocet mic that is powered by a battery, you get a bad buzz in the audio line. The only con I have seen is that the tie-clip included is a bit flimsy, doesn't really grip well and is easy to lose.

[Omnidirectional] I have been using these microphones for over 20 years in my wedding videography business. They are dependable and durable which is important in this business. There are higher priced alternatives, which I have tried and for the cost difference, 99% of my clients would never know the difference. So I buy these and the money saved allows me to buy other gear. Don't let the low price fool you, these in my opinion are just fine for my market and use.

[Omnidirectional] I bought three of the EX-503L lav microphones to replace three older ones I had, two since 2009 and one since 2012. They'd been used a lot, and it comes as no surprise that clients aren't always gentle with the videographer's gear.

They'd been tugged at, knotted up, you name it through the years. Recently, I'd noticed a drop in quality of the audio I was getting from my wireless units.

Replacing the microphones seems to have fixed the problems. I had an all day long corporate shoot where I used all three of my Azden UHF units going into a Zoom H6. The audio was nice and clean. I'm very pleased with the performance of the EX-503L mics.

[Plug-In Power] Guys, seriously, go with this microphone. It gives great semi-professional sound, and it's a great price! What I did is I bought a Sony voice recorder and I use this mic plugged into the mic jack of the voice recorder to sync up to my video interviews later...I get great results! I also use a Rode mic ontop of my DSLR for more depth to my interview sound and as backup sound, but I do love this little mic! Highly recommend!
