The wide camera platform provides support for DSLR cameras, making this head suitable for both camcorders and DSLR cameras.

The 60mm half ball allows you to quickly level the head without having to readjust the legs. It also makes it simpler to create Dutch angle shots without dangerously unbalancing the tripod.

The spring-loaded counterbalance is fixed at 5.3 pounds; however, the head supports 17.6 pounds, and the counterbalance will still provide assistance when using camera setups heavier than 5.3 pounds.

Professional fluid cartridges provide fixed fluid drag in both the pan and tilt axes.

The head features a tilt range of 90 degrees forward and 70 degrees back, allowing you to tilt the camera straight down, and tilt it almost straight up.

The head pans through 360 degrees, allowing you to take long panoramic shots or spin the camera around on the head.

The side lock system allows the sliding QR plate to click into the head from above, instead of needing to be aligned and slid in from the back. This gives you the speed of a touch and go quick release with the balance adjustment capability of a sliding plate.

An integrated bubble level on the head aids you in quickly leveling the fluid head.

The included 500PLONG sliding quick release plate includes both a 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 camera tie-down screws.

The head includes one pan bar and features two pan bar mounting rosettes, one on each side of the head, for left or right-handed operation. A second optional pan bar allows you to operate the head with two pan bars at the same time.

The Easy Link connector is a 3/8"-16 threaded hole in the side of the head that allows you to easily mount accessories to the fluid head itself, and not the camera.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. My tripod case strap broke and I can't seem to find this particular case that came with the MVK500AM tripod set anywhere. It fits perfectly and that is quite important for my travels. The ones I tried are either too short, too long or too narrow. What alternative Manfrotto case would you recommend?

A: An alternative will be the Manfrotto MBAG75PN bag (MABMABAG75PN ).

Q: 2. I own this tripod, but the mid level spreader is very loose. It makes it hard to easily move your shot without having to fix the legs again once placed back down. What should I do? Can I buy a tighter mid level spreader compatible with this tripod??thanks.

A: Hello, We set our tripod up and it never really moves from its current location. So we don't pick it up. I would contact Manfrotto and see if they have any options.

Q: 3. will this adapter fit any 75mm bowl? I am trying to mount a 60mm half-ball to my gitzo system 3 with 75mm half-bowl.

A: While we cannot test this configuration and thus cannot guarantee the set-up, we have the opinion this will do what you wish.

Q: 4. Referring to the plate: how do I get the screw into the threads? They are two separate pieces. I got the shaft part into the plate, but now I need to fit this empty threaded cylinder over it. It JUST barley won't fit

A: What you're talking about is a 1/4 -3/8 reducing bushing that is only needed if you're planing on using a camera that has a larger 3/8 mount instead of a standard 1/4 . If that's the case, then you should screw the bushing into the bottom of the camera, not onto the screw. Then you can use the screw on the plate to mount the plate onto the camera.

Q: 5. Have Manfrotto 520mvb legs with 65mm bowl. Want to fit flat base 503 head. Is there a suitable bowl available. Specs seem to expect 75mm but I've measured top of tripod and empty bowl is 65mm. Thanks

A: Sorry, but currently there is no known 65mm bowl to flat base adapter. If these is imperative, an appropriate sized bolt and one, maybe two large washers should be able to mount the head on the tripod.

Q: 6. Does this come with the exact same Manfrotto 535 tripod that sold by itself is $669?

A: Yes, this kit does include the Manfrotto 535 Carbon Fiber Video Tripod, B&H # MA535.

Q: 7. Can I use the 128RC micro head on this tripod?

A: Not without an adapter. This is a bowl mount tripod and the 128RC has a flat base. So you would need to purchase a 520BALL or 520BALLSH half ball adapter.

Q: 8. can you release the mid level spreader? I've heard you can't detach that at all. How much can you actually spread the legs?

A: Sorry, no you cannot remove the spreader on this tripod. The max spread is what you see here about 22.

Q: 9. I have a 65mm bowl video head im trying to attach to a 75mm bowl tripod legs, would this fit?

A: This is a solution for 60mm video heads, it will not work with a 65mm heads. I'm afraid we do not have such an adapter either.

Q: 10. What is the screw size hole on the side of the plate?

A: If you are referring to the hole seen in this photo on our website that is a 3/8"-16 thread. https://bit.ly/2rQusEx

[Fluid Head] I have been using one of these for several years and am quite pleased with it. The head is smooth and the base is fairly solid yet light weight. This system will not be your heavy lifter but it works well for medium sized camcorders with plenty of room for attachments.
When our church was looking to upgrade our video production, I recommended this system. Everyone is happy with the product. Just be aware that occasionally the leveling nut may come detached when you loosen it--so hold onto your camera. I recommend tripos for studio use and portability.

[3] This tripod is perfect for lighter film cameras but not sturdy enough for heavy ones. My first use of this tripod was with a loaded Sony FS7 so it had issues with a camera nearing 38 pounds (V-mounts/ release plate/ etc). It bent and bowed here and there from the fluid head arm to even the legs at times. Even one of the knobs bent under pressure of me trying to tighten it enough for the weight of the camera. It is very lightweight so I love it for that reason. But because it's so lightweight, it proved too weak for a heavier camera system like the FS7 (fully rigged). My second use was with a fully rigged Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and it performed excellently. We moved from room to room quickly and had some tight squeezes for setting up our shots and it was the perfect tripod throughout the shoot. The fluid head works great on this camera system. If you're making films or documentaries and want to be mobile and lightweight, this is a great tripod if you're using DSLR sized cameras or mini or pocket cinema camera packages.

[3] So far this tripod has not disappointed. I put it to the test on some uneven terrain and it held up. Very versatile and a must for every shoot

[9.5 lb] I've never had a Manfrotto before, and I love this. It's sturdy, easy to use, feels great. Totally happy with it, but would just have liked a little level bubble. Seems as if something in this price range should have one, but maybe it's TOO high end? Who knows. Happy with it though.

[60 mm Half Ball] This tripod worked great for my mixed video and photography workload. My favorite part has to be the bungee strap that holds the tripod closed as well as the awesome carrying case.

[Mid-Level] This tripod is a great option for traveling. Light weight and easily fits inside a standard suitcase.

[9.5 lb] After reading mixed reviews on this tripod I took a chance and ordered it. I have been very impressed with the stability of the tripod and how smooth the operation of the head is. I'm very eased with this purchase

[Flip Lock] I bought it for smaller camera setups, it performed smoothly with a DSLR with cine lens and a fully loaded cage, matte box, 5 monitor and mini V-mount battery. A bit bendy with used with a slider like Edelkrone, but still better than any other tripod I used in this same category and size.

[Aluminum] I have been a long time user of Manfrotto tripods over the years, and I wanted to find a tripod that still had my favorite plate, BUT I wanted to make sure that I was getting a heavier duty tripod with more fine tuning adjustments.

This fit the bill perfectly!

I just finished my first weekend shoot with this tripod and I have to say that I am very pleased. Certainly not too heavy, easy to move around, easy to collapse down and lovely to work with.

The bowl head on this tripod is wonderful :)

The spreader is not exactly what I was expecting, I still like it, but the spreader itself feels like it is on the weaker side of things.

Overall, definitely worth the purchase (I also got this when I saw it pop up in the Deal Zone).

[Flip Lock] Have had this exact model for years now. It is used in the field and as a production unit in my studio for the public. Works great for me. BUT! It is not a heavy duty unit. It is BUILT as a lightweight alternative to the heavier solid tube aluminum models. Do not use this for a follow focus rig with a matte box. It is not designed for that. I use it with Black Magic 6K's with Canon - L Series glass with a cage / monitor / handgrips. Works perfect!
