The DPA 3511A Stereo Kit with 4011A Cardioid Micsby DPA 3511A Stereo Kit with 4011A Cardioid Micsis designed for use when capturing instruments or vocals in recording and live sound reinforcement applications. The 3511A kit includes two frequency-matched 4011A cardioid microphones, two UA0897 shockmounts, two UA0896 foam windscreens, two UA0961 microphone holders, one DUA0019 spacer for stereo boom, and one UA0837 stereo boom excluding holders.

The 4011A cardioid microphones are matched within 1 dB on frequency response, sensitivity, and self-noise. These cardioids are linear in their frequency response and allow for several different setups, such as ORTF and XY configurations. The microphones can handle high SPL for both close-miking and distant placement. The 3511A kit can be used for piano recordings of jazz or pop or as an overhead for drums and other instruments.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Best wind shields for this? Both fluffy and wind shield?

A: The Sennheiser MZW-8000 Windscreen (BH #SEMZW8000) is the best choice of foam windscreen for the Sennheiser MKH 8040 Compact Cardioid Condenser Microphone. For higher wind scenarios, the Rycote Baseball Windscreen and Baseball Windjammer Combo Kit (0.7" Diameter Hole) (BH #RY039710) is a great solution.

Q: 2. Hi Works with MKH 8060 +MZF 8000 filter? Thanks!!! Renzo

A: No, The Rycote 010320 Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics (Small) is for shotgun microphones up to 200mm long and it will not be able to accommodate the Sennheiser MKH 8060 when combined with the Sennheiser MZF 8000. The MKH 8060 is 178mm long and the MZF 8000 is 29mm long, which is 207mm when used together. Instead of the small Rycote Super-Shield, you can use the Rycote 010321 Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics - Medium (B&H # RYSSKM) which accommodates mics that are 200 to 250mm long.

Q: 3. Are these good to capture wildlife and nature sounds when paired with a Sony PCM-D10?

A: Yes the Microphone Madness MCSM-4 would be ideal for that kind of application.

Q: 4. Do the DPA 4099s come with a carrying case, and if so what does one look like?

A: The DPA Core 4099 do not come with a case.

Q: 5. Would this be the correct model for the Sennheiser MKH 50?

A: The Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics (Small) from Rycote will accommodate several mics including the MKH-50. Rycote also recommends the Modular Windshield WS 2 Kit for a more robust solution.

Q: 6. Can Sennheiser MKE 600 fit in this?

A: Hi there,It's not our official recommendation; however, you should (just about) be able to get away with an MKE 600 in the Super-Shield, Medium, since it's only 6mm over our recommended length. We would still recommend the Large, though! If in doubt, it might be an idea to bring the mic along to a dealer and try it inside the Medium, since everyone's needs are different.

Q: 7. Is there any way to switch out the cable to use with a mid-side mic like the Sanken CMS-50? Do you sell such a cable?

A: Yes, you can replace the cable that is included with the Rycote 010320 Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics (Small). The Sanken CMS-50 Short M-S Stereo Shotgun Microphone has a 5-pin XLR output connector which requires a Y-cable that splits to two 3-pin XLR male connectors like the Sanken SC-532 5-Pin XLR Female to Dual 3-Pin XLR Male Adapter Y-Cable - 1' (B&H # SASC532), the Remote Audio 5-Pin Stereo XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Y-Cable - 18" (B&H # RECAXSTE), or the Sennheiser ACS5 5-pin XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Y Cable for MKH418S and MKE44P Microphones -6" (B&H # SEACS5). You can also make a custom cable yourself or have one made for you with the appropriate connector to fit the windshield and pistol grip.

Q: 8. Can this screw onto a boom pole? If so, what are the thread specs?

A: Yes, the Blimp can be attached to a boompole, threading size is 3/8"

Q: 9. Will my sennheiser 416 fit ?

A: The correct model of Super-Shield for the MKH416 is the Medium (MFR # 010321): a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1044548-REG/rycote_010321_super_shield_kit_medium.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1044548-REG/rycote_010321_super_shield_kit_medium.html/a

Q: 10. Would this set be appropriate for ASMR/binaural recording? I am on a relative budget but want as best quality of sound as I can get.

A: appropriate is relative. these are good mics. they compare to Shure SM81s. They are accurate. their part in the total audio chain from reality to ASMR is just one part. my guess is that they will work well. again, all the other parts of the audio chain have their own effects. most important is how YOU will use them.

[Solid-State] Using the BLMs on the floor under a piano, my pianist says its the sound every piano player dreams of.

[48 V] I bought these to use with a Zoom when recording audio for video interviews. They are built solidly of good materials and make excellent recordings when the mics are chin high on the lapel, but they are far too bulky to hide and too large and distracting when left exposed, even when you take off the wind screens. If you are doing audio only, they can't be beat for the price. However, if you are looking for a small Lavalier that you can hide or won't be a visual distraction, these ain't the best choice.

[Pad] I love the detail that this mic picks up. The wider spread and small footprint makes it ideal for doing field recordings for sampling in music and foley. Close mikig does a good job of isolating asound, while pulling it back sets it in its environment, and its size allows it to be camera mounted with ease. Great mic!

[Cardioid] Excellent quality. Using it in a Church and audio is excellent. It is a delicate equipment if handled improperly you may break it

[Solid-State] The sound is both fat and loud; really nice. This mic replaced the Sennheiser MKE2, which was quieter and thinner. Though the DPA 4080's sound is really full, the speech intelligibility is superb. The spoken word is distinct and clear. Used in a Baptist church with a Sennheiser lapel (EW 112p G4) microphone. If you want pro quality sound for your sermon, get this mic.

[Cardioid] Though I haven't taken this on a gig yet, I live in a very windy area and was able to test it out with my Sennheiser MKH 50. The build quality is very solid, and the design is great. I had researched it a lot before buying, and it completely met my expectations. Glad to have this addition to my kit.

[Pad] I guess I use my 4097 and 4099 mics pretty hard, because every once in awhile one of the little rubber shock mount rings form a tear. In fact I have two 4097 right now where the shock mounts are wearing out, tearing, making the shock mount less affective and some handling-type noise is delivered to the mic when in use. The rings are exactly the same as what ships on the mic—-these are factory spec replacement parts. They are easy to replace and put your 4099 / 4097 back in working order if you experience a shock mount failure. I try to keep some extra rings on-hand.
