Have all the essential focal lengths covered with this Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lensfrom Sony. Designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this lens offers an extremely versatile 27-157.5mm zoom range and has a constant f/4 aperture for consistency through all focal lengths. Making this lens a great choice for both stills and video is the implementation of a power zoom mechanism and Handycam technology that provides smooth, quiet zooming and focusing. Also, it uses two extra-low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements to combat aberrations for crisp, clean images.

On top of these features, the lens is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to help reduce the effects of camera shake, especially at longer focal lengths. The lens benefits from an internal focus design that ensures that the overall length of the lens does not change during focusing. Additionally, it offers a minimum focus distance of 1.5' and uses a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

A versatile mid-range zoom for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this 18-105mm lens provides a wide-angle to short telephoto 27-157.5mm equivalent focal length that works for anything from vast landscapes to tight portraits to distant subjects.

A constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.

Two extra-low dispersion glass elements are featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.

Three aspherical elements, including one Advanced Aspherical (AA), are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.

Enjoy smooth zooms ideal for shooting movies with the power zoom mechanism which uses Handycam technology from Sony's well-regarded camcorders.

An internal focus design contributes to fast autofocus speeds and the minimum focus distance of 1.5' and easier handling as the lens maintains its overall length.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How can you tell what focal length you're at, since there's no outside marks to tell you?

A: When used on Sony cameras, there is an on-screen display that tells you the focal length you're at.

Q: 2. Would this lens fit on a Panasonic GH5 if I were to get an adapter for it? If so what kind of adapter would I need for it to fit on the GH5?

A: I am not aware of any Sony lens compatible adapter for a Panasonic GH5 but I use a Metabones adapter to attach my Canon lenses to my Sony a6600.

Q: 3. Is there any way to avoid the zoom reverting to 18mm setting when the camera goes into energy saving mode or is turned off? Is this a common occurrence with fly-by-wire zoom. Very annoying to have to re-zoom every time!

A: Most Sony cameras allow you to set the energy-saving interval time; on the a6400, it can be set to 30 minutes before the power is cut off. Look on the camera menu under the setup icon.

Q: 4. Will this lens work for Sony a5000?

A: Hello. Yes the 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens is compatible with the Sony a5000.

Q: 5. When zooming, does the lens change in length?

A: Hi Steven, no the lens won't extend.

Q: 6. Will this lens work on a Sony A7rII?

A: You can use this lens on an A7RII in crop mode. You get a 17mp image using the crop mode. The A7RII actually does better on the video in the crop mode (Super 35mm), so this is a decent video lens for the A7RII.

Q: 7. how to stop power zoom 18-105mm sony?

Q: 8. Which lenses have better image quality and sharper images for sony a6500? 18-105 / 18-135 or 18-200? Looking for lenses to take with me when I travel or go on a hike or something. TIA

A: Hi,if you only take photos go for the 18-135, if you take photos and video go for the 18-105 because it's constant aperture and power zoom. The 18-200 has more range but less quality.

Q: 9. Will this work on the FS7 II?

A: This will be compatible with the Sony FS7 II.

Q: 10. Are the elements plastic or glasss?

A: Hello. The lens is made with glass elements.

[1.31 lb] I got this lens ever since it was out and I use it on my A6000. Its compact enough, sharp enough, fast enough and most important sturdy enough. I have traveled over 20000 km with it and 0ver 6000 km on my motorcycle through real rough weather, from sea level to 18,000 feet. No complaints of any kind.

[72 mm (Front)] Not too heavy like 18-200. Much sharper than 18-200. A photo shot with this lens at 105 and cropped is looked better than shot with 18-200 at 200 with no crop, seriously.

[72 mm (Front)] I own 5 Sony APC lenses and I use my 18-105 the most. The 'mostly wide' 18mm solves most on the fly situations where I want to capture a large context indoor space or a landscape. The 105 end of the lens lets me reach into a crowd without being obnoxious. I use it occasionally for video, and the fixed 4.0 makes shooting without thinking, and without messing with ND filter settings, a breeze. Highly recommend.

[72 mm (Front)] I finally found the lens that I wanted for filming street markets. I believe this lens that will provide a good wide angle and a good distance for me to filming market places when I travel to Asia countries. It’s good for video in day time outdoors. The quality of videos are awesome. I took some photos and they are quite nice but I am more interested in videos than photos.

[f/4] Needed a one lens for general shooting for my Sony NEX7. This lens gave me better and sharper photos than either of the two lenses that came with the camera. Could not see much difference in the photos taken with my Sony and this lens compared to Canon 1DX and an it's F4 lens.

[Sony E] I've owned this lens for 3 yrs and it is a great lens!
It is usually my go to lens unless I need more reach. the bokeh is pleasant and it is plenty sharp, especially at F7!
I would have put some pics on but I don't know how to get them below 5mb!
Don't hesitate to buy this lens if you don't have $1500.00 for a better one because it is a great lens!

[Autofocus] I bought for my second camera to have a similar range as my 28-135mm power zoom for 2 camera video shoots but did not expect the performance to be anywhere close to the 28-135mm, but in some ways it's even better. The zoom ring is more responsive for snap zooms and I love how lightweight it is. I don't use auto focus but I tested it and it is very fast on my a6000. Highly recommended if you need a servo zoom for APS-C.
