Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it possible to have the tape input go directly to the headphones/control room and not to the main mix? I would like to record microphones with the music from the computer not showing up in the recording when using the tape input.

A: You can route whatever to the computer through outputs 3/4 separately.

Q: 2. Can we operate it with battery in the field?

A: The Allen & Heath CQ-12T Compact 12-Channel Digital Mixer with Touchscreen is not battery-powered.

Q: 3. Is it possible to have a mic channel only go through the aux without having any audio in the main mix? Think Talkback for aband.

A: No, it is not possible to assign a mic channel from the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer to go only through the Aux Send and not the Main Mix.

Q: 4. Can I plug in a line level input from a mixing board?

A: Yes

Q: 5. The psu unit has dual voltage support for 220v/110v? Thanks

A: Unfortunately, the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer is only 100 to 120 VAC.

Q: 6. How do I use the effects on this board? OR do I need to purchase an FX processor?

A: This mixer has no on-board effects.

Q: 7. Can the INSERT jack be used as splitter by inserting to the first click?

A: The insert jack of the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer (BH # MA802VLZ4) should not be used as a splitter function as described. There would be a good chance that noise would be introduced into the signal chain. Best to use a splitter cable: Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer (BH # MA802VLZ4): https://bhpho.to/4cOduHG

Q: 8. Is the 3.5mm audio input switchable between mic and line?

A: I'm very pleased to say that the CAME-TV L2PLUS switcher can be switched from LINE-IN to MIC IN.

Q: 9. Where are the phantom power buttons for the XLR ins? Thx

A: The Phantom power button is placed directly above the headphone jack. This mixer has a single phantom power button, you cannot select a individual channel to provide power too, the power is share between all microphone inputs.

Q: 10. Can you send audio to a tablet or phone via. Bluetooth (so that it looks like a mic to the phone)?

A: Audio can not be sent to a tablet or smartphone through the USB port or wirelessly, because the Bluetooth is a receiver only on this unit.. This mixer can be used in conjunction with an iOS interface, such as the IK Multimedia iRig Stream 2-Channel Audio Interface for Mobile Devices, BH #IKIRS and a Hosa Technology Two 1/4" Phone Male to Two RCA Male Unbalanced Cable (Molded Plugs) - 3.3' BH #HO2PM2RM3 in order to send audio to an iOS device.

[44.1 / 48 kHz] Ok, I wanted to give this 4 stars because I can't get used to not having physical faders. But that's just me - I'm an old curmudgeon who has been doing sound longer than most of you have been alive. In truth, the tiny, lightweight console is just the thing when you're going to have to mix from any iPad anyway. The iPad app, btw, is really very good and much more responsive than some I've used for other consoles. There's still a lag, but it's acceptable. For multi-fader mixing (which I've done for decades), it's not quite there, but it can be done. Some of the functions on the console itself are a bit obscure, and thus better on the iPad. The head-amp gain seems a bit low (needs to be nearly full on for SM57's) but I haven't tried it with truly difficult mics like an SM7b or ribbon. For those a Cloudlifter might be required. I find the gate and compressor screens to be less informative than on other console iPad apps, though I understand the theory of what they are presenting. It's software though, so it may change in the future. Kind of miss the flags for gates and compressors that were in the pre-release 3 firmware, but that's not huge.

All in all, for the price, space and weight, it's hard to go wrong. And, in case you're wondering, yeah it sounds good too. I think it is not quite as good sounding as some more expensive 16 channel mixers (A&H comes to mind), but certainly acceptable in 95% of the small gigs I do.

If you're going to operate wirelessly, I don't think you can get 16 channels in a much smaller footprint and still have a usable console. This is an advantage - to me - over those rack mount only mixers where you have to work wirelessly.

The case, btw, is just about perfect. Everything fits in comfortably and without pushing and shoving on wires, etc. I wouldn't take the console anywhere without it. Looks nice too for those who are concerned about such things.

In my opinion, if you need small and light weight, this is the only choice.

[8] I was really on the fence prior to purchasing this unit, but with the BH return policy I felt the risk was minimal. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance of this unit. Pros: -Lots of presets with reasonable setting. You are up and running with the board very quickly. -Clean menus. -Excellent responsiveness from both the touch screen and the dial control. -Very little, if any, audible noise of the board. This is comparable to other high end digital boards. - Good number of output options. - Firmware upgrade was very easy. Possible Improvements: - Podium EQ preset is not terrific. Seems to be an error in setup. - Allow the touchscreen to tilt. - Provide a locking mechanism for the XLR connector. - Provide a locking mechanism for the power cord. - Offer a longer whip on the DC side of the power brick. - Offer a locking IEC power cord going into the power transformer. - Offer a way to play an audio file from the record/playback screen. - Increase the spacing between the USB ports.

[105 dB ] I bought a second TouchMix-16 so I would have one for performance and one for practice/backup. I have been very happy with the product. This one came with firmware version 1 which needed to be updated to avoid recording problems. It is not difficult to update the firmware. I would suggest using a solid state drive for recording if you are going to travel with it because it won't require special handling.
