Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you use filters with this eyepiece?

A: Yes, The 1.25” insert barrel is threaded to accept filters.

Q: 2. What magnification would this be on a 100mm m2 Celestron spotting scope?

A: 540mm focal length divided by 18mm eyepiece = 30x Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

Q: 3. I have a Pentax 65 ED II spotting scope and Pentax SMC XW 10mm eyepiece. If I wanted a greater field of view, should I get a bigger eyepiece 20mm or smaller one 5mm?

A: Magnification in telescopes and spotting scopes is calculated by division. So a 20mm eyepiece will have a greater angle of view than a 10mm or 5mm.

Q: 4. Will this work on an Meade ETX 70 focuser?

A: It will not.

Q: 5. Hi, is the top of the eye cup moveable from the position show in the photos on this page? Does anyonme know what distance of eye relief is possible withis range? Thanks

A: Eye Relief 16.0 mm Retractable Twist-Up Eyecup

Q: 6. Is this eyepiece compatible with the ETX-60AT telescope?

A: I have checked the Meade Manual available online. The telescope uses the standard 1.25 eyepieces. I would imagine that standard eyepieces are capable of achieving focus since they talk about buying extra eyepieces. With a 60mm 350mm focal length the 25mm and 9mm eyepieces supplied with the unit produce 14 and 39 magnifications and a 5mm would produce 70 magnifications. From my early experience with a longer focus refractor a practical absolute maximum magnification is twice the diameter of the front lens in millimetres (that is 120), providing the optics are good. What I am saying is, Don't expect to just keep adding magnification - the image will become very faint and fuzzy. Besides at such very high magnification strange things happen. The very small exit pupil projects floaters etc and granular 'things' in your eye directly onto your retina overlaying the 'real' image and becoming very annoying. The 5mm X-Cel has a nice wide 60 degree field, and at 70 magnification high power should prove a very satisfactory complement to the 25mm and 9mm if the telescope lens quality and optical system is good.Because the magnification is higher, the image will be fainter so it is more likely that you will use it for Moon, Planets, and Double Stars. Also it will require more care to locate objects. Still it should prove a good choice for higher magnification use.As you see from the illustration it will be bulkier and heavier but a price must be paid for the wide field and good eye relief.

Q: 7. Is the eye cup removable and is there thread under the eyecup?

A: No, the eye cup is not removable and there is no threads. Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

Q: 8. Some reviewers say, if you get this eyepiece with PF-65EDA, it doesn't fit into the provided case for the scope. Is that right?

A: The case included with the Pentax PF-65EDAII 65mm Spotting Scope was designed to be used with the open back or fully closed depending on the size of the eyepiece attach to the scope. You would not be able to fully closed the bag when attaching Pentax SMC 8-24mm Zoom Eyepiece. The lenght of the case on the outer curve is 16.5''. The case has 2 zippers, 1 will give you access to the tripod mount. The second one will allow access to mount your eyepiece.

Q: 9. will this work with a Nexstar 130 SLT?

A: Yes, it will

Q: 10. Will it work with Pentax PF-65 ED II (straight body) ?

A: Yes, it will

[0.4 lb] I just used this eyepiece last night at a dark sky site in the Sandhills. This Plossl is a good intermediate magnification with my long focal length Mewlon 180c reflector. It's also useful with my Takahashi FC-100 refractor. Televue's 20mm was used often last night. I really think these Televue Plossls are a good fit for even the best telescopes. You can see the difference.

[1.25"] I use this with a Celestron Omni XLT 102mm refractor and am surprised at the crisp detail I get from this combo. Before I was using a 5 Newtonian and the views were never this good. This is one great piece of glass for the money. It's by far the best eyepiece I ever had in the 8-12mm range.

[20 mm] I received this eyepiece with a new TeleVue TV-85 refractor telescope. It is a wonderful eyepiece. Clear, bright, contrasty and sharp with decent eye relief. I ordered an extra one so I can use them with binoviewers. Recommended.
