Designed for commercial and industrial use, the JBL CSMA 180 Mixer Amplifier Commercial Seriesfrom JBL CSMA 180 Mixer Amplifier Commercial Seriesis a mixer/amplifier with four mixer-channel inputs and one output channel. It's capable of reaching 80W of peak power with 10W per channel. The unit's front panel sports volume controls for each channel, as well as a master volume adjustment knob, bass and treble controls, and a power switch. The volume controls are illuminated so they can be seen and operated in darkened environments.

The amplifier, capable of driving both eight and four Ohm loads, can be used with 70V and 100V distributed audio systems without the need for a separate transformer. On its back panel you'll find the mic/line inputs, unbalanced RCA inputs, speaker connections, Hi-Z and phantom power switches, and more. The unit is also equipped with a RJ45 connector for use with JBL CSR-V in-wall volume controls (available separately).

This Commercial Series mixer/amplifier boasts such features as voice activating ducking (useful for paging over background music), priority muting for channel one's input, and a sleep mode which automatically powers down the unit when no audible signal has been received for longer than 30 minutes. Also, with an auxiliary output, you may connect to an additional amplifier, though the master volume and tone controls will have no bearing on the resulting signal.

Four inputs into one output channel with 80W of power.

  • Independent Bass and Treble controls for each output channel.
  • Input level and output volume controls.

The Hi-Z switch will switch in the built-in output transformer allowing the unit to drive 70V or 100V speaker systems directly when connected to the appropriate output terminals.

Phantom power (27 V) can be applied to all mic inputs by turning on the phantom power switch.

Voice activated ducking is available on input channel one. The audio input level required to activate ducking is set using the trim pot on the rear panel. Adjusting in the counter-clockwise direction will reduce that level, while the full clockwise setting will disable the VOX function.

Input Channel one may be used as a priority channel, muting all other channels when pins four and five are shorted using a switch closure. If the amplifier has entered sleep mode due to inactivity, invoking priority will also bring the unit out of sleep and ready for transmitting an announcement.

Remote volume control can be implemented using a CSR-V controller connected via an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 connector on the back panel.

This unit is designed to go into sleep mode after approximately 30 minutes operating with no signal at any of the inputs. Return of signal (-40 dBu or 7.75mVRMS) to any input will wake the unit. Also, a switch closure across the priority input pins will return the unit to normal operating mode.

An auxiliary output that you may connect to additional amplifiers is available. The audio signal is the mix of the input channels. Note that the master volume control and tone controls will have no effect on the aux output signal.

  • Crown's DriveCore technology
  • HARMAN's GreenEdge environmental standards

  • Suitable for commercial and industrial use
  • Ideal for commercial and industrial
  • Euro-block type mic/line input connectors and output connectors
  • Configurable output routing

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this rail have laser etched or painted on marks?

A: I'm not sure how to tell the difference between painted and laser etched, yet the numbers that are present (on each side of the rail, as well as the top) appear to be high quality and durable. The nodal rail also has a nice feel (weight) in the hand, and is solidly well constructed. I'd recommend the purchase. The only thing missing is a marker system to mark your settings once you've establish them for your particular lens. My work around for this has been some black electrical tape to mark my key positions, or to write the numbers down on some paper I keep with me.

Q: 2. Hello, with this Nodal Rail is nothing more necessary? I mean, do I put the Nodal Rail on my tripod, and can I use it for panoramic photographs? Or do I need to buy something else to complement it with the Nodal Rail?

A: You would need two of the other rails to build the full panoramic shooting rig. An easier alternative would be to get an L-Bracket and a tripod head that pans.

Q: 3. Does this have an arca groove on top as well as, obviously, the bottom does? Can't tell by pics..

A: The Desmond DNR-180 Nodal Rail doesn't have an Arca groove on top.

Q: 4. I've read the 140 is too short for the Nikon 14-24. Is this long enough or should I go for the 200? Since I backpack a lot, every inch counts.

A: I have found this to be a bit short when I used it with a D800 and my Nikon 14-24. The Nikon D800 is so good and I have found that I really didn't need this to get good panos.

Q: 5. Does this camera include the cable to upload to computer?

A: It appears you can order the camera with the deluxe kit and get a cable with it ... or order the cable separately for $15.

Q: 6. Is this rail able to be mounted in an arca-swiss style panning clamp (like the Really Right Stuff PCL-1)? That is, I can mount this rail on an arca-swiss style panning clamp and then mount my DSLR to the rail -also with an arca-swiss style L-bracket? Thanks.

A: Short answer, yes. That's pretty much how I use mine - the rail is profiled like an Arca plate so goes on the tripod mount then the camera L-plate mounts on the end of the rail. Depending on your lens, I'd consider a longer rail than this one. I ummmed and aaaahed about this and a 200mm rail and should have got the longer one. When I align my lens nodal point with the tripod, this rail only sits about 3/4 of the way through the Arca bracket on the tripod. It's very dependent on lens, of course, so worth checking where the nodal point on your lens is first prior to buying.

Q: 7. Would this rail work well with a fisheye 8mm lens? I'm worried it may be a little too long. BUT I'd like to find something I can use for fisheye, 85 and my 50 mm prime.Or am I asking too much of one piece.

A: The DNR-120 is shorter and would be better for use with a fisheye lens. Please see the following link:http://bhpho.to/1n0MHt9

Q: 8. What are the features of the remote control? There is no info given regarding the usage or the need for the remote control. Is it for the the one/off, dimming, temp control, etc, if the light? Does it do anything to control start/stop of recording, etc?

A: The remote control for the Dracast LED180 Mobile Broadcast Kit controls dimming and color temperature only

Q: 9. Does it hold a MacPro 14" laptop?

A: Unfortunately, the MindShift Gear Rotation 180 22L Photo Backpack does not have a laptop compartment.

Q: 10. What are the pairs of holes down the length of the rail for?

A: They are additional threaded mounting points if needed

[> 90 dB ] This is a commercial sound bar, not a consumer product. It is built to provide superior sound quality to the ultra thin TVs that are becoming so ubiquitous. It's intended to be easy to use, easy to clean and provided long term maintenance free operation.
The sound quality is very good.
The build quality is good.
The installer features are appropriately minimal.
It's not overloaded with unnecessary features like bluetooth, wifi, etc.
It's EXACTY what I hoped it would be.
Highly recommended!

[1 RU (1/2-Rack)] This is a GREAT product for installations where a few inputs are needed.
It's hard to mess up operation.
The one precaution I will state, is that the POWER INDICATOR LIGHT IS GREEN when the unit is OFF....
It is BLUE when it is ON...
This is FRUSTRATING for people.. Even during installations, where I've forgotten - and troubleshot audio processing for 10-15 minutes before remembering this stupid feature.
The unit being POWERED OFF is the ONLY reason that I've been called for troubleshooting.. I wish the power indicator LED was just OFF or RED, when the unit is switched off...
Other than that little rant - I LOVE this product.
It is my preferred simple in-rack mixer for stupid-proof installs.

[1 RU (1/2-Rack)] Used outside to power two outdoor speakers at a little league field. We use a microphone to announce players and stuff - and we hook up a CD player to play music. It was easy to set up, light to carry back and forth to our storage shed, simple to operate (important with lots of different volunteers handling) and powerful enough (we had 35 watt amps that clipped - and this one does not).

[2-Band] We did our own installation, and the system works great. For a small office with multiple rooms this is a good system to use. The tech assist I got from B&H prior to making the purchase was great. Thanks guys, Bill

[-70 dB (1 kHz) ] These rack ears are very solid. They are strong and made of thick metal stock. I recommend these for anyone needing 2u rack ears. I did not use them with a Quest Amp, so I cannot comment on their fit with a Quest Amp.
