Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use this with the fx9 and be able to access audio channels 3 and 4 on the fx9?

A: Yes, the XLR-K3M dual-channel audio adapter can be used with the FX9 and you will be able to access audio channels 3 and 4 on the camera.

Q: 2. Does this support 24-bit recording with a Sony 7C using the Multi Interface Shoe, i.e. digital transmission to camera?

A: No. The Sony a7C Mirrorless Camera will only record 16-bit audio.

Q: 3. What happens to the -20 safety channel when the Rode VideoMic NTG is used with this "balanced" adapter?

A: When used with a standard unbalanced 3.5mm microphone cable, the Rode VXLR Pro's extra pin (used for inverted polarity audio signal in balanced devices) would be inert, but unbalanced audio is still passed through the balanced connection.

Q: 4. Is this compatible with all Sony MI-shoe cameras in analog-mode only? Even older cameras like the CX900?

A: Yes it is. This is compatible with cameras that have a Multi Interface Shoe like the CX900, for Analog Mode.

Q: 5. Is this compatible with other brands of mirrorless cameras? Probably not, but would be nice if it played well with Nikon z6ii or Canon R5/R6?

A: No. this SONY adapter is only compatible with SONY cameras that feature the proprietary SONY Multi Interface shoe and are listed as compatible with the SONY MI shoe. Compatibility: Digital Audio: Sony Cameras Equipped with Digital Multi Interface Shoe Analog Audio: Sony Cameras Equipped with Either Multi Interface Shoe or Digital Multi Interface Shoe

Q: 6. Does this unit have a limiter?

A: No, the XLR-K3M does not have a limiter, but it does have attenuation controls and low cut filters for Input 1 and Input 2.

Q: 7. Am I correct, when assuming that one could use a y-splitter and 2 of these to “symmetrize” the Sound Devices Mixpre 3/6 unbalanced trs outputs?

A: No, the VXLR Pro is not intended for use with a line level audio signal. It is intended for use with a microphone that has a 3.5mm TRS connector that requires plug-in power and enables connection to an XLR mic input that supplies phantom power and it will convert phantom power to plug-in power. It would certainly help to have more information about what type of device or input you will be connecting the line output from the MixPre-3 or 6 to. Since you are sending line level audio from a single 3.5mm TRS output and want to split it to two balanced XLR male connections, it sounds like what you need is a direct box like the Kopul SDI-PPC Stereo Multimedia Passive Direct Box (B&H # KOSDIPPC). This direct box has a stereo 3.5mm input and will allow you to split the output from the MixPre-3 or 6 to left and right balanced XLR outputs. Please contact us by phone or through live chat on the website if you would like further assistance.

Q: 8. can you monitor audio with audio out jack??

A: Yes you can use the audio out jack to monitor but you can't plug a headphone directly in the audio out jack and expect it to work as a headphone driver. The audio out jack is at microphone level and is matched to the microphone input on a DSLR camera. You would need an extra pre-amp to monitor the audio at line or headphone level from the audio out jack. However, the Saramonic BMCC-A01 has a dedicated headphone output with a volume control that works easily for audio monitoring of incoming signals. If you want to monitor incoming signals and audio playback from the camera when needed, then use the headphone jack on the camera as the place to plug in your headphones.

Q: 9. Can I use a Sanken COS-11D with a Zoom FX3 using this adapter?

A: Yes, a Sanken COS-11D Lavalier Microphone that has a 3.5mm TRS connector can be used with the Zoom F3 Portable Field Recorder when connected with an adapter like the RODE VXLR Pro Transformer-Balanced 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom-Power Converter or the RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter (B&H # ROVXLRP). You will need to turn on phantom power on F3 to power the mic.

Q: 10. How does this differ from the VXLR+?

A: Both the VXLR+ and VXLR Pro are 3.5mm TRS female to XLR male adapters with a phantom power converter that can convert 12 to 48V phantom power down to 3 to 5V plug-in power. The VXLR Pro differs from the VXLR+ because it also provides a transformer-balanced output which preserves the signal quality and prevents it from degrading when using a long cable run.

[1] I received such gear a few days after having made the order. It reflected the efficiency of B&H. I connected the gear into my HiFi system and immediately felt surprised why such pro product could give me such a good sound. It sounds much better than just using the Cardas adapter.

[1] I needed a proper way to convert and feed a pro level XLR audio out of a powered portable PA speaker / mixer main line out to a RCA input of my assistive listening transmitter in a Church for my hard of hearing folks that for some reason only has a RCA input jack.
I never had any luck with those simple adapters or a cable with a XLR on one end and a RCA on the other! To do it right I needed to not only convert the jacks but also convert the impedance. This is a quality very well built product featuring top rated Neutrik brand RCA and XLR jacks in a nice aluminum enclosure and an impedance matching transformer that allowed me to properly convert the signal. Yes, this is more expensive than the other simple adapters but I wanted pro results and pro results is what I got.
Perfect for my situation.

[1] perfect converter for what I needed. Just wish the documentation was a bit clearer for accessory's, I needed a power supply and a rack mount bracket to go with it.

[1] I use this switch during church service to direct the audio feed to my video camera. I'm getting the sound from two sources, shotgun mic and a sound system. Works very well. Would buy another if needed.

[1] I literally looked everywhere to find an RJ45 to 2 Male/2 Female cable and was just about to resign myself to having to make it myself when I came across these. Very thankful to this company for making them and appreciate the great quality.

[0.3 lb] I got the SES to convert the unbalanced signal from my turntable into a balanced signal I could run into my studio monitors. It works perfectly for that. I also like that it has input and output level controls. This means I can adjust the volume coming out of my monitors simply by lowering the input or output level on the SES. Very handy, because it saves me having to walk around behind my monitors every time I want to adjust the volume.

Would definitely recommend if you need to do a similar conversion. I tried some adapters first, but the signal was very weak and thin. This is the worth the money.

A+ service from B&H too. It shipped fast, and I got frequent tracking updates.
