The FotodioX 100x133mm Soft-Edge Graduated Blue Sky Filteris a filter designed for use with the Cokin Z-Pro series or FotodioX Pro 100mm filter holder systems. It can be used to add blue to a hazy or colorless sky. When used instead of a polarizer filter to enhance the sky within an image, the desired effect can be applied only to the sky, without any unwanted polarization or additional contrast to any part of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.6 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to two stops.

This filter is made of durable, optical resin (CR39) and measures 1.6mm thick. A plastic sleeve is also included with the filter.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would it make sense to buy two of these? One for your key and the other for the fill? Or possible to flood the scene a bit with soft light?

A: I would start with one and depending on what youre shooting you can always add a second if required

Q: 2. Will format Hitech 4x6 filters work with this?

A: These items were purchased as a gift. I never used them.

Q: 3. What's the weight of the light with batteries when you're holding it? Thanks!

A: The weight of the FotodioX Pro FlapJack LED Wand C-308AS Bi-Color Edge Light is 6.94 lbs, while the weight of the NP-F740 batteries together would be approximately 0.9 lbs. As such, the weight of the FotodioX Pro FlapJack LED Wand with the batteries would be approximately 7.94 lbs.

Q: 4. Does this light have any issues with a magenta tint? (I've had issues with other Fotodiox LED's that had a strong magenta spike)

A: I've found no color tint from these lights.

Q: 5. To get the most out of the battery life during a 2+ hour shoot of multiple testimonials, should I turn it down between subjects or turn it off?

A: It would be best to turn the C-700RSV off between subjects to conserve battery life.

Q: 6. Can the C-308AS be run off AC power only after the batteries have run out of power?

A: Yes, you can run the lights on AC or on Battery. So, if the batteries run out you can switch to the included AC adapter.

Q: 7. How long does the batteries last at full power? I would like "real-world" replies. Thanks :)

A: The batteries will last 2 hours at full power.

Q: 8. Regarding the output of the light, how bright is it at its highest setting? For example, it is comparable to a 500w light, 650w, 1000w, etc. in terms of how bright it can get

A: Wow, one guy says 65 watt equivalent, another guy says 650 watt equivalent. What a difference! Here is the definitive answer: An old-school 750 watt Lowel Tota tungsten light puts out 2,700 lux at 3.3'. This light puts out between 778 and 865 lux at 3.3' (depending on your color; 5600K mode is brighter than 3200K mode). That's ~30% as much light as the Lowel Tota or the equivalent of a 220-240 watt tungsten light.

Q: 9. How many LEDs is in this?

A: Fotodiox does not list the number of leds but please note this light uses leds that are reflective in that they come in from the side. They will have less than the front facing type.

Q: 10. Is there a compatible grid/softbox accessory to narrow the beam angle to limit spill?

A: Unfortunately, there are no compatible grids or softboxes for this particular LED light.

[0.05 lb] This is a big, heavy, tough filter. I think this will be the last ND filter I will ever buy. Kinda surprised how thick 4mm is. Wouldn't shock me if it was bullet proof. Glad I went with the glass filter, I had plastic filters ,they are cheap, but scratches too easily.

[5.5 x 4 x 0.1"] A well-made filter. Note that 0.6ND is really light. Filtered area has a very slight warm tint.

[0.05 lb] I take a lot of landscape pictures. Lately I have been taking ocean view pictures in the evening and had big contrast issues - bright sky and dark foreground. I had the camera checked out and everything was to spec. HDR mode and Software couldn't correct the problem so I tried the Tiffen Graduated ND filter which solved the problem perfectly. Pictures are much better balanced.

[5.5 x 4 x 0.1"] This is a reasonably priced filer that works well without hurting image quality.

[0.05 lb] I bought this product for taking pictures of the Grand Canyon. There is marked difference between the canyon exposure and the sky. The sky is much brighter than the canyon landscape. Also there is very define edge between the top of the canyon and the sky. This will prevent over-exposing the sky and keeping a very good balance between the two, the top 1/3 of the image and the bottom 2/3rds. This does it job and saves post editing work

[Rigid Plastic] I use this filter for scenery photography, where part of the area to be photographed is over exposed. I can't image going in the field with this filter.

[0.05 lb] Thank You for your excellent service. The ND filter arrived and was to be a gift, so use hasn't occurred yet. I just like B&H- rather than some of the other vendors. Sincerely, C.

[Rigid Plastic] Even though these filters are available in photoshop, I still prefer to use the filters when composing the image to expose as perfectly as possible all the details in a scene when light is unbalanced.

[Rigid Plastic] An excellent value for the money; inexpensive, can be used with 2mm thick/4mm thick filters, and can be reversed so as to not vignette with very-wide-angle lenses.
