The Royer Labs SF-2MP Active Ribbon Microphone Matched Pairfrom Royer Labs SF-2MP Active Ribbon Microphone Matched Pairis a matched pair of SF-2 microphones.

Designed primarily for classical applications and acoustic instruments, the SF-2 combines high-quality audio performance with active electronics for high output. The SF-2's output of -38 dB puts its sensitivity on par with that of phantom powered condenser microphones, allowing it to be used with a wide variety of mic pres regardless of gain characteristics. The mic uses custom designed FETs to deliver quiet operation, with self-noise of lower than 18 dB. The SF-2's magnet/pole piece transducer structure gives a wide, uniform frequency response and the 1.8-micron ribbon element is designed to deliver accurate transient response. The mic also is designed to provide accurate frequency response regardless of the angle of sound striking the ribbon and for low off-axis coloration.

The electronics in the SF-2 provide the correct load to the ribbon element at all times, so its performance is never compromised by the effects of improper loading and regardless of the input characteristics of the mic-pre. Due to its low impedance output, SF-2 can be used on long cable runs with minimal signal loss. In addition, the mic is designed to resist ribbon element damage by phantom power, electrical glitches or miswired cables.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what does the chart stand go into is the tripod included ?

A: this does not include the tripod. We use a standard mic stand. We had purchased an Atlas Stand, B&H part # MS20 and it works great.

Q: 2. Would a Pentax 67ii body with a prime lens attached plus one more prime lens fit in the bottom compartment?

A: I can fit a Canon 5D mark III with battery grip and a 24-70L in there comfortably. I use this as as travel backpack, actually bought it in NYC at BH photo when there and it is by far the comfiest and best travel backpack I have ever used or bought! Well worth it as it's basically a half half backpack and can store your camera with easy access (and can add a separate lock) and then in the top half add your shopping or a jumper etc..

Q: 3. will this work with leica cl?

A: Unfortunately LightPix Labs FlashQ x20 with Transmitter for Sony is not compatible with the Leica CL.

Q: 4. is there a softbox to fit this light?

A: Currently there is not a softbox for this light. Your best bet to soften it more would be to shoot it through a silk.

Q: 5. Is there manual mode?

A: Yes. For instructions, please see the quick start guide on our overview page or the manual included in the box.

Q: 6. are the gels included removable from their carriers ?i'd like to change out these colors for my own gels.

A: Unfortunately, the gels are not removable from their carriers.

Q: 7. What is part number of Grid for this kit?

A: My grid came with the Barn Door Kit. Like you have never been able to locate an additional or different size grid for this barn door attachment. Even searched Impact's website, no luck.

Q: 8. Does this fit on impact vsd300 monolights?

A: Unfortunately, this barndoor kit does not fit the VSD 300 monolights. A better option is the Interfit 4 Leaf Barndoor Set for Interfit Flash Heads - Includes Filter Holder B&H # INBD. Please see the image below.

Q: 9. Will this work as a trigger on my Sony A7iii using my HVL-F43M off camera?

A: BH #LIFQRECT2BLK is only a receiver. You would also need the transmitter. It is also a manual only system so you would not get the full range of features of the flash.

Q: 10. Would a micro 4/3 camera with a zoom lens attached plus another small prime lens fit in the TOP compartment? I plan to put a full size camera and lenses in the bottom compartment.

A: This bag is meant to hold a single camera and 3 lenses. It may not be a good fit when using 2 cameras and additional lenses. We do not recommend it for that. You may want to look at larger bags designed to hold more than 1 camera, such as B&H # CAGBD200EG.

[Tube] I took a chance on this mic as there's not a lot of reviews on it out there. I'm kinda an ART fanboy, so I figured this mic would be alright. It is! I use it for electric and acoustic guitars and find it to be rich and smooth, like a ribbon mic should be! I find it to be low noise and very balanced. With the right placement (not too close) I didn't even need to eq it! Not having to worry about using my cloud lifter is a plus as well, the active circuit works very well at boosting the signal. Also, it comes with a sturdy aluminum case, shock mount, and velvet pouch. One thing - the shock mount is a little not great - the only thing that holds the mic in is a little thumb screw that pushes a piece of felt into the mic body. It does come loose after a couple of hours. Overall, this mic stands it's own again other cheap ribbon mics very well! I have a cascade fathead and an Se X1r, and this one sounds just as good! And is about $70 cheaper! Way to go, ART!

[Phantom Power] The one and only... You probably already know that!

[48 V] B and H had my order ready in no time, and this is a great microphone! Using it for woodwinds and guitar so far and it has a beautiful mid range without too much harsh high end.

[16 x 14.5 x 9"] Purchased this filter for use in a radio broadcast project and it has delivered as promised reducing voice popping fluctuations totally.

[Tube] The only way to filter, especially with ribbon mikes. There are others that work well enough, but they seem to block the sound a bit... coming out of them you won't feel a breeze, but the PS101 emits this gentle breeze which is just enough to convey the sound waves unimpeded.
Always use a pop filter of some kind, and the metal ones last and are washable, but this one is the best.

[16 x 14.5 x 9"] Small , light weight as well as affordable.
But the best part of my purchase was the patient sales fellow who took me item by item through my list of equipment - adding his thoughts and suggestions. He was exactly what I failed to get at a competitor. Thanks so much for making it both an easy and educational experience.

[8.4 lb] With the pair of microphones mounted on the stereo bar I was able to easily capture a conversation of two documentary subjects, avoiding the hassle of panning a single shotgun mic or fussing with lav mics. The sound quality in the recording was lovely, and the convenience of mounting the mics next to each other and directed toward the subjects was phenomenal. This setup opens up many possibilities at a modest price. My first real-world use case was a resounding success.

[Phantom Power] I have used this mic for the first time for an on-location recording of a choir, band, and orchestra. I can verfy all the claims that Royer Labs make for this product. The sound is gorgeous - silky smooth and so accurate. The stereo image and location of individual instruments therein is absolutely uncanny! It is every bit as good as any recording I have ever heard from major studios. The crossed figure eight pickup pattern gives great ambience to the sound - you just have to hope your audience is quiet if you are recording a live performance (an acceptable tradeoff, I think). And, of course, being a ribbon microphone, you have to be sooo careful with it. It comes in a double case with a very well designed isolation mount included, a 25' 5 conductor cable, and a suitable 5 pin to two 3 pin XLR adaptor - all you need.
