The WMS420 Wireless Instrument System from AKG offers guitar, bass, and keyboard players a simple-to-use wireless system for live sound applications including performances, presentations, and installations. This system consists of a PT420 bodypack transmitter with a 1/4" instrument cable and a SR420 tabletop UHF receiver.

The system uses dual-antenna diversity to improve signal reliability and reduce dropouts and offers a maximum range of 100'. For improved reception with multichannel setups, the included 1/4-wave antennas can be removed and upgraded with professional RF accessories such as antenna splitters and remote-mounted directional antennas.

The beltpack transmitter includes a 1/4" guitar cable, but will also work with a wide variety of AKG lavalier and headset microphones with a TA3F connector. The beltpack features a noiseless On/Off/Mute switch, a gain control knob, an LCD channel display, and a battery status LED indicator.

The transmitter is powered by a single AA battery (included) which provides up to six hours of operating time—and even up to 8 hours depending on battery type and use circumstances. The transmitter also includes charging contacts for use with rechargeable batteries and AKG's CU400 rechargeable base station (both available separately).

The front panel of the receiver features an On/Off button, a rotary output volume control, and a button for selecting one of the available eight carrier frequencies within the system's range. An LCD display shows the selected receiving channel, an RF LED to indicate the presence of a signal, and a CLIP LED to indicate when the audio level is too high.

The back panel of the receiver features an adjustable squelch control that will automatically mute the audio output if the strength of the radio transmission becomes too weak. A DC IN port with strain relief accommodates the included AC adapter. The balanced XLR output lets you connect to a mixer, while the unbalanced 1/4" output is ideal for connecting to a guitar amplifier.

The WMS420 offers 8 preset frequencies in the UHF spectrum, which can be deployed to create a clear wireless operating channel with a range of up 100'. If interference should occur, simply switch to another frequency and resync the components. A total of 8 systems can be used at one time.

The included antennas can be removed to enable the use of professional RF accessories such as antenna splitters and remote antennas for multi-channel systems.

Squelch automatically mutes the audio output if the signal strength of the transmission frequency falls below an adjustable threshold.

Outside contacts on the bodypack transmitter allow you to recharge the battery while still inside the transmitter (rechargeable battery and charger available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use ASA 214 (Antenna Spliiter from Sennheiser or other models) for use with 4 systems/receiver EM-XSW2?

A: The Sennheiser ASA-214 is designed for Sennheiser ew G3 and ew G4 Receivers and is not compatibbe with the Sennheiser XSW2-ME2 Wireless Lavalier Microphone System (A: 548 to 572 MHz) BH #SEXSW2ME2A.

Q: 2. Are there other frequency range units available?

A: I'm sorry, but that system is only available within one frequency range. For more available ranges, I would recommend considering the more professional EW 100 G4 systems, like these: https://bhpho.to/3a3qpaM

Q: 3. Can this audio equipment be connected to mirrorless cameras, DSLR, cell phones?

A: Yes, audio from the Samson AirLine 77 AH7 Wireless Fitness Headset Microphone System can be sent to a camera or smartphone, however, the wireless receiver requires AC power and does not have the option of being powered with batteries, and it is not able to mount on a camera. We do have other options for wireless mic systems that have camera-mountable receivers which can be powered with batteries.

Q: 4. Can I get extra receivers?

A: Yes you can use additional Nady PEM-RX receivers but these are not available standalone at B&H.

Q: 5. How does battery charging work here?

A: The transmitter within the Nady PEM-02 Wireless 2-Person In-Ear Monitoring System uses an AC power supply, and the included bodypack receivers use AA batteries. If the AA batteries chosen are rechargeable, they should have their own proprietary charger.

Q: 6. is this compatible with the p112 transmitters of the same frequency bandwidth?

A: No

Q: 7. Which DPA Adapter do I need to make this TX9 work with my DPA 4060?

A: The DPA 4060 microphone can be used with the DPA DAD6034 MicroDot to Locking 1/8" Mini Connector (B&H # DPDAD6034) or Deity Microphones DA35 Microdot to Locking 3.5mm Adapter (B&H # DEDA35). The Saramonic UwMic9 transmitter uses the same type of 3.5mm (1/8") locking connector as Sennheiser transmitters.

Q: 8. Do the receivers remember Focus and Pan settings between power-on and power-off, or do those need to reset every time the receiver is turned off? Hoping to use this feature to get two completely separate mono mixes to two receivers from a single transmitter.

A: Yes the settings will be the same as last used when you power the receivers back on.

Q: 9. What's the difference between XSW IEM series and EW IEM G4 system?

A: The Sennheiser XSW IEM SET Stereo In-Ear Wireless Monitoring System and the Sennheiser ew IEM G4 Wireless Monitor System offer similar functionality and solutions with a few key differences. The XSW IEM offers 960 usable frequencies where the IEM G4 offers 1,680. The XSW offers up to 12 compatible channels in use at once on the same range where the G4 offers 16. Both systems offer a similar 300ft maximum operational range. The XSW receivers offer some unique functionality with the ability to let the user design their individual mix with Mono, Stereo, and Focus Mode settings. Simple controls enable them to dial in the volume and panning for both left/right signals and get the balance that works best.

Q: 10. Is there a separate XLR out for each channel?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser EM-XSW 1 Dual-Channel Stationary Receiver has separate XLR and 1/4" outputs for each channel.

[8] I've been using it for karaoke. My mike is more powerful and the sound is better quality than DJ's. I absolutely love it!!!

[Off/On Switch] I have several of these wireless AKG Perception units (handheld, lapel and headset versions) and they all work superbly for my different needs. This is the first I have purchased from B&H and it is just like my others. B&H shipped the item very promptly and everything was as expected. The B&H price was better than my previous units, so I will return to B&H if I need any more. I'm very pleased with the AKG product and with B&H pricing and service.

[FM] This mic sounds better than my wired sm58. Much brighter and clearer. I don't move too far from the base so can't comment on distance but within 20 ft it's awesome. No feedback at all when moving in front of the FOH speakers. Only negative is the recessed on/mute/off switch is a little hard to push. Up side is you don't accidentally turn it off when singing. Great quality sound.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] I did not notice the transmission distance limitations on the product until I received it (really quickly, thank you), but it turned out not to be an issue. Well pleased, so far. It seems well built, but time will tell.

[Analog UHF ] Have used this mic a few times now in our church hall which seats about 350 people. We can walk to the other end of the hall around the bend and the mic still gets picked up with clear sound. Only thing to note is that when you initially turn the mic on, it takes a good 5 seconds before you can start speaking or singing into it. Good quality for the price. Very pleased with our purchase.

[40 Hz to 20 kHz] I purchased this microphone a month ago for my home Karaoke setup. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and sound of the mic. It has great wireless range and is easy to use. I also like the fact that is has balanced XRL outputs. Highly recommend.
