The black iStarUSA 3.5" to 2 x 2.5" SATA Hot-Swap Drive Cagefrom iStarUSA 3.5" to 2 x 2.5" SATA Hot-Swap Drive Cageis designed for the use of two 2.5" SATA hard disks or SSD mounted on one mini 3.5" form factor drive cage. It complies with SATA-I, II, III and maximum transfer rate up to 3 Gb/s for SATA-II and 6 Gb/s for SATA-III. The device is constructed of aluminum that provides better heat dissipation, required for high performance of 2.5" disk drives and SSDs. A: Probably, I replaced the HDD in my 2012 iMAC with a SSD using this adapter. But first I mirrored the original HDD drive to the SSD, which you probably can't do. The other issue is you may need an OWC HDD temperature sensor (google it). My old IMAC with the SSD is great, massive speed increase so it is worth doing.

A: Yes, this is a universal adapter.

Q: 3. Does it work for old (2011) MacBook Pro?

A: No. The Macbook Pro 2011 uses a 2.5'' SSD so this adapter is not required.

[Aluminum] bought the old version of this and it was great for my 9mm HDDs. however after i while i moved onto 7mm SSDs which were not supported by the mechanism. told startech about my problem and they simply replaced my old model for the newer product free of charge. first class service. [SATA 3 (6 Gb/s)] Pros: Self contained. Doesn't use up resources Cons: Longer than a standard 3.5 drive The drives stay loose on the trays. It looks as though the holes for the drives are slightly too wide for the screws provided. I had same issue with different screws. Product works fine as is. Other Thoughts: I've been installing these on our manufacturing equipment on their CPCI controllers. Only wish ICYDOCK offered a tray for CPCI setups. I've been making my own at a local maker space. Of the 7 I've installed so far, I've only had one bad unit. I'll be sending it back for warranty. Still a great solution for our needs. I would like to see some indication, either via lights or the monitoring software, that the unit has finished building the new RAID array. To avoid loosing any data, I first install the SSD and power up the unit. Give it 5min to build the array. Then take out the SSDs and clone the original drives. The manual is not very specific about this. 5

[7.8 x 6 x 1.8"] I bought this because I am transitioning from spinning disks to 2 1/2 inch SSDs and when this arrived I was impressed by how well it was made, its ease of installation and the fact that for 4 SSDs I only needed 1 power cord thus reducing some of the clutter of cables inside my case by 3. The fan has 3 settings, automatic, low and high and is attached to the rear of the unit and really quiet. Good price for a great little unit. 5
