A: I went right to Sekonic in Japan for this one as the manual has not be updated to include media cards. This is their official reply, which is likely to appear in the manual in some for or another.The power of L-398A magnet at strongest point is 0.06T (tesla) which is equal to 600G (guass).Please kindly check with the SD card manufacturer if their products can endure this magnet power.It is difficult for Sekonic to tell OK or NO against various kinds of products/materials.We can only tell Do not place L-398A close to the materials which may be damaged by magnet.Translated: It is not a good idea to place a media card near the meter. My guess would be that if you had an average camera bag, you could probably put all of your media cards in the right side pocket with the meter on the far left of the bag or in left side pocket and be safe. The card maker is the final word on this. Hope that helps.

A: Possibly. It could help you understand the difference between a reflective reading (what all cameras give you) and an incident reading. (this meter can give you reflective and incident readings. And if you're planning to use studio flash it can be invaluable. But you can learn a lot just by putting your camera in manual mode, put your camera's meter in spot mode, and then just pay attention to how the camera indicates changes in exposure value (EV) when you put the spot on subjects of different brightness. Take pictures using the different readings and see how the overall picture brightness shifts.
