The GT0532 Mountaineer Series 0 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Gitzo features Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters, and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT0532 has a load capacity of 26.5 lb, extends to a maximum height of 52", and folds down to 20.9" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 5.9". Its three-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity, and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A ballast hook on the center column allows you to add weight to increase the tripod's stability.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the diameter of the center column?

A: The diameter is 1 inch.

Q: 2. How do you raise the center column?

A: Right above where legs attach there is a lock collar that even has wings for griping. Turn that counter clockwise. Raise center column and retighten.

Q: 3. What is the exact diameter (mm) of the top plate of the Gitzo GT2542 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fibre Tripod?

A: The top plate diameter is 60mm.

Q: 4. Can the center column be removed and inverted like the traveler models? I know it can be removed and just the base reinstalled for low shots. But I may wish to shoot with the camera suspended beneath the legs at some point. Thanks in advance.

A: Yes this is easy to do. There is a threaded end cap with the hook to hold a weight on the bottom of the center column. This is removed and the column comes completely out once you loosen the locking collar. It can be reversed and locked in place using the same locking collar. There is a guide pin which prevent rotation of the column. Rotation of your camera is accomplished with the head you choose. I have the small ball head and this has worked well. The entire combination is very light and still rigid and works well for travel.

Q: 5. How tall is the GT3532 with the center column not extended? How easily is the column removed to use the tripod without it?What is the maximum height with the column removed?Does this tripod have non-rotating legs?

A: The tripod extended without the column extended is 52.4 inches. And it is about the same with the column taken off.Taking the column out on this model is very easy. This is a new design; a single simple unlocking ring under the column's upper disc frees the column while keeping the upper disc solidly in place on the tripod.

Q: 6. Has anyone compared the Mountaineer 3 series to the Systematic 3 series? Is the Mountaineer more stable, less? Assuming column at bottom...

A: We suggest that rather than which tripod is better than another, consider what is the principal use you need the tripod for. Gitzo has three groups of tripods. Systematic is the flag bearer, the best and most stable they make. Traveler is made for just that, traveling. It for the hiker, the airplane rider who needs excellence in a small, light package. Mountaineer is for those who need a compromise between the two. Very stable yet as light as possible. It is their most popular group. All are stable with the bigger, heavier ones more so. All are light and compact considering what they do with the smallest, lightest one more so. And every one famous Gitzo quality.Which group fits your needs?

Q: 7. Are there threads in the feet to so that spiked feet may be installed?

A: The bottom tube is only 14.7mm wide and is not threaded. So there is no way to screw a spike into this tripod.

Q: 8. what is the height with the center column all the way down ?

A: Max Height without Center Column 54.7"

Q: 9. Hi, what is the diameter of GT3542's Power disc ? I know there is a lip on the power disc of the new mountaineer range, I would like to know the diameter within the lip since I want my ball head base fit firmly within the lip of the power disc.

A: the diameter of the disk is 2 3/4 . The lip is flat and is 3/16 wide. Then there is a slanted section for another 3/16 until it reaches the flat bottom.. This gives a 2 diameter for the flat bottom. I use a 55mm really right stuff head which sit on the lip and have not encounter any problem. The head is very well secure even when using a 70-200mm f2.8.Hope this helps

Q: 10. need to support 500mm canon lens ?

A: Hi B&H friend, before I ordered this item I shopping around for long time,I am student at Tri-community center school,I asked instructor which bland of tripod is good,he said 1st,is stable, even you kick it it won't fall,2nd,light but strong enough to support lens. This tripod Gitzo GT 2542 Mountainner series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripos meet all I need.easy to operate, light and strong, only 3.7 pounds, can support 39 pounds.my lens is 70-200 mm,around 4 pounds, your 500mm lens which I don't know how many pounds?but I believe it can support very well.I bought 2weeks ago,I paid $799,now is less expensive,I like to give 5 stars.

[Carbon Fiber] I'm surprised to find that this Series 1 tripod is as strong and vibration-stable as the same model in Series 2. Save some weight and a few bucks, folks.

[3/8"-16 Male] I bought this for as a gift for a semi-pro photographer, who needed a lightweight tripod for traveling. Though there were a few tripods out there that were even lighter than this one, it was only by a few ounces and were significantly more expensive. Even better, it had a rebate available! The tripod is super lightweight, very easy to use, and folds up to be quite compact...everything we were looking for.

[3.25 lb] I use this tripod with an RRS BH-30 for my OM-D EM1MkII and the 40-150mm lens and tele-extender. I also use this tripod with my spotting scope, by easily changing heads. I can extend and retract the legs easily and very quickly. Vibration-free, even under windy conditions, and a nice lightweight, stable tripod.

[3.25 lb] I finally bit the bullet and bought a premium tripod. I know that cost is an issue but the value is there. I followed the usual route buying and getting rid of inferior tripods. The buck has finally stopped with this Gitzo. It operates smoothly and is easy to pack & deploy quickly. Very rigid. Clever quick conversion to short column for low to the ground shots. I love this thing!

[Carbon Fiber] I bought this tripod because I needed a small, sturdy, lightweight tripod that I could fit into a suitcase. My workhorse tripod is a G1345 that's just not suited for travel. The GT0532 will now be my go-to unit for all needs, except when I'm using my 500mm tele. I'm delighted with this unit.

[3/8"-16 Male] Lightweight and stable tripod for most travelling needs. Price dropped after I purchased, though. :'

[3.25 lb] I no longer have to miss photo opportunities because of a heavy load of gear. The GT1532 is a breeze to carry around and set up, particularly compared to my aluminum tripod. I shot some landscape examples with my walking-around lens and with Canons 11-24mm monster. Not a hint of vibration with either. So far Im delighted with the results. I think the flip lock for leg extension is easier to use on my old model than Gitzos twist lock, but that may simply be a factor of getting used to it. In any event, its a minor irritation compared to the advantages of using a great, lightweight tripod. Definitely recommend it to friends.

[Carbon Fiber] I haven't purchased a Gitzo in many years and when I received this new one, I enjoyed seeing the new features: easier to pull the tab out to fold the legs out and the auto return to their resting position-great! Good fit and finish as always

[25 x 4.5 x 4.5"] Light weight and sturdy. The leg sections move smoothly and lock in place with out much effort applied to the twist locks. It is very nice just like the other Gitzo tripod I own.
