The Gitzo GT2532 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripodfrom Gitzo GT2532 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripodfeatures Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT2532 has a load capacity of 48.5 lb, extends to a maximum height of 65.4", and folds down to 25.6" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 6.3". Its three-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A ballast hook on the center column allows you to add weight to increase the tripod's stability.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the diameter of the top plate of the center column where you mount a ball head? Also, does the top plate have locking screws for securing the ball head?

A: The diameter is approximately 2 inch. It is not designed with set screws for the head.

Q: 2. I wanted to handle and inspect a gitzo Gt3542 mountaineer at a local retailer in Australia,I noticed while the tripod is off the ground and I'm extending the legs the tripod rattles a lot from the legs until I place it on the ground is that normal or have I inspected a faulty unit. Am I better off with a Really Right Stuff Tripod, I need the tripod to fold down to max 54cm though ? Thank you in advance

A: I have not experienced this problem. I have used this tripod for 2 months now. It is a bit rough to handle its legs while extending or folding, but otherwise, it is a strong tripod.

Q: 3. Is it necessary to purchase any additional parts to mount a ballhead with the center column removed?

A: You can remove the center column on the Gitzo Mountaineer series without removing the mounting platform using it's "Ground Level" center column release feature. If you do it this way, you can keep the head on the tripod without dismounting it to remove most of the center column for ground-level photography.

Q: 4. What is the diameter of GT3542's power disc ? I know there is a lip (raise at the edge) on the new mountainner's power disc, I would like to know the inner diameter since I would like my ball head to fit firmly with the power disc.

A: The edge of the disc is very slightly thicker than the main surface as you point out. However it isn't really an abrupt lip, but it slopes up the edge. The flat part of the disc is approximately 1 15/16 . My guess is Gitzo designed it that way to more securely lock down a ball head or gimbel head on the tripod using bit of a taper fit. I give them the benefit of knowing what they are doing, but you should make your own judgement call. My ball head and gimbel head seem to be very secure.

Q: 5. Would the GT2532 be happy with my Nikon 500mm lens + RRS 55 ball-head and a Wimberly sidekick? Or do I need a heavier tripod?

A: should work well! I use with a large format camera and it's quite stable, I hang a camera bag from the hook in heigh wind which stabilizes it even further. Hope this helps

Q: 6. Will the RRS BH-55 fit the Gitzo GT2532 Mountain Series 2 plate?

A: Yes, the BH-55 head is compatible.

Q: 7. Would this work with Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head (with Q2 Quick Release)? I used 054 with Manfrotto 190XPROB, they fit well. And would like to know if 054 fits Gitzo GT2532 Mtnr Series2

A: I dont know about that ball head but the tripod has the 3/8 screw mount. I use it with am Arca swiss B1...

Q: 8. Can the center column be removed and inverted like the traveler models? I know it can be removed and just the base reinstalled for low shots. But I may wish to shoot with the camera suspended beneath the legs at some point. Thanks in advance.

A: Yes this is easy to do. There is a threaded end cap with the hook to hold a weight on the bottom of the center column. This is removed and the column comes completely out once you loosen the locking collar. It can be reversed and locked in place using the same locking collar. There is a guide pin which prevent rotation of the column. Rotation of your camera is accomplished with the head you choose. I have the small ball head and this has worked well. The entire combination is very light and still rigid and works well for travel.

Q: 9. How do you raise the center column?

A: Right above where legs attach there is a lock collar that even has wings for griping. Turn that counter clockwise. Raise center column and retighten.

Q: 10. How tall is the GT3532 with the center column not extended? How easily is the column removed to use the tripod without it?What is the maximum height with the column removed?Does this tripod have non-rotating legs?

A: The tripod extended without the column extended is 52.4 inches. And it is about the same with the column taken off.Taking the column out on this model is very easy. This is a new design; a single simple unlocking ring under the column's upper disc frees the column while keeping the upper disc solidly in place on the tripod.

[Carbon Fiber] Gitzo is awesome for solid hold in all sorts of weather! I cringed at the price of the first gitzo I bought...but now I would not do without! It has gone through rain, sand, waves, dirt... you name it! Simple enough to take apart and clean if need be but built to withstand all of that with a simple rinse off in the shower and allowed to dry if you just keep the legs extended. This won't fit in your carryon bag, but I put it diagonally in my checked bag without a problem.

[4.65 lb] I shoot architecture and interiors. I have been using Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum tripod legs for years...and they have served me well. It was time to replace the Manfrotto legs and I decided instead to splurge and buy these Gitzo legs. I have had my eye on Gitzo for quite some time but held off purchasing them due to the price. I will say, now that I have these Gitzo legs, I am kicking myself for not buying these much sooner. The quality and craftsmanship are simply amazing! If you are sitting on the fence as to whether or not to buy these Gitzo legs, do yourself a 'solid' and take the plunge. These Gitzo legs are truly remarkable. I am now a very happy convert. Thank you Gitzo.

[Carbon Fiber] Any concerns about expense melted away after a few hours with this absolutely great tripod. It is light weight, stiff, and quickly sets up and breaks down. I upgraded from a very old Gitzo G226 Reporter, and I don't know why I waited so long. I like the center column which gives me the two or three inches I need for eye-level work with my Canon 7D/MKII attached to a Kirk BH-3 and Wimberley Sidekick. The column is easily removed for ground level set. With the 3 sections, rather than the 4 of the GT2542, you give up 5 in maximum height and have a longer folded length, but it feels sturdier and more stable. Thanks Gitzo and B&H.

[3/8"-16 Male] As a tripod it's very sturdy, doesn't wobble at all and I tried different scenarios to check that, even tapping on one of the legs and there are no teethering/wobbling at all. Very easy to use. Tried it in the field and wow is it handy.

[Carbon Fiber] I bought this tripod to replace a Gitzo metal tripod. It was a shorter tripod to keep the weight down so I had to do a lot of bending over. I also had to use both the long and short center posts with it and swap the ball head all the time. The Ground Level Set feature of the center post on the GT2532 eliminates this problem and make the switch from ground level to high shooting easy. The twist locks on the legs are VERY smoothe and require very little rotation to lock and release. The legs are VERY stiff and testing shows the tripod dampens vibration well. Its and expensive tripod but worth it.

[Twist Lock] The new GITZO GT2532 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is beautifully made. The 3 (three) leg sections make it very fast to set up and take down. I am using a RRS BH-55 ballhead. This combination is perfect. Make sure you purchase the GITZO GC3101 padded tripod bag to go with it. This will hold the tripod with ball head for safe transportation and storage.

[4.65 lb] I have been a photographer for over 30 years and this is my first Gitzo, been a loyal Manfroto customer but not anymore. This is by far the lightest, compact and most ridge tripod I have even owned. Always wanted to buy one but couldn't justify the cost, boy was I wrong!

[Twist Lock] This is my first tripod with twist locks for the leg sections. The G Lock Ultra leg locks are fast and easy to use. 1/4 turn to release, 1/4 turn to lock - super. The legs can be set independently at three different angles. I have used all three and combinations of the three. They adjust quickly and are easy to use, even with gloves on and a camera mounted on the tripod. I have removed the center column and shoot without it. Setting up at ground level is much quicker with it already removed. I do carry it with me to reinstall if needed, maybe on a windy day to hang weight on the built in hook. It even has a tripod head locking screw on the top plate and comes with a dust bag. It is solid, light and remarkably easy to use. TIP: If it starts to rattle, tighten the feet.
