The Gitzo GT3532 Mountaineer Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripodfrom Gitzo GT3532 Mountaineer Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripodfeatures Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT3532 has a load capacity of 55 lb, extends to a maximum height of 63.4", and folds down to 25.2" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 6.3". Its three-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity, and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A ballast hook on the center column allows you to add weight to increase the tripod's stability.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a Gitzo bubble level for this tripod?

A: Yes there is. Search the site for item # GLEVEL2

Q: 2. Has anyone compared the Mountaineer 3 series to the Systematic 3 series? Is the Mountaineer more stable, less? Assuming column at bottom...

A: We suggest that rather than which tripod is better than another, consider what is the principal use you need the tripod for. Gitzo has three groups of tripods. Systematic is the flag bearer, the best and most stable they make. Traveler is made for just that, traveling. It for the hiker, the airplane rider who needs excellence in a small, light package. Mountaineer is for those who need a compromise between the two. Very stable yet as light as possible. It is their most popular group. All are stable with the bigger, heavier ones more so. All are light and compact considering what they do with the smallest, lightest one more so. And every one famous Gitzo quality.Which group fits your needs?

Q: 3. Hi all, I am looking for a decent tripod with a good ball head, I wanted to know what is the difference between gt3532 and gk3532

A: The Gitzo GT3532 has no ball head included. Just a flat mounting disc for any brand of tripod head. The GK3532 has a Gitzo ball head attached to the GT3532 tripod. Either way, you get the world's best tripod. It will last a lifetime with reasonable care. Money well spent.

Q: 4. What is the warranty?

A: The Gitzo GT2542 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod currently comes with a Limited 6-Month Manufacturer Warranty. This can be extended by 9.5 years with registration.

Q: 5. What is the diameter of GT3542's power disc ? I know there is a lip (raise at the edge) on the new mountainner's power disc, I would like to know the inner diameter since I would like my ball head to fit firmly with the power disc.

A: The edge of the disc is very slightly thicker than the main surface as you point out. However it isn't really an abrupt lip, but it slopes up the edge. The flat part of the disc is approximately 1 15/16 . My guess is Gitzo designed it that way to more securely lock down a ball head or gimbel head on the tripod using bit of a taper fit. I give them the benefit of knowing what they are doing, but you should make your own judgement call. My ball head and gimbel head seem to be very secure.

Q: 6. what is the height with the center column all the way down ?

A: Max Height without Center Column 54.7"

Q: 7. need to support 500mm canon lens ?

A: Hi B&H friend, before I ordered this item I shopping around for long time,I am student at Tri-community center school,I asked instructor which bland of tripod is good,he said 1st,is stable, even you kick it it won't fall,2nd,light but strong enough to support lens. This tripod Gitzo GT 2542 Mountainner series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripos meet all I need.easy to operate, light and strong, only 3.7 pounds, can support 39 pounds.my lens is 70-200 mm,around 4 pounds, your 500mm lens which I don't know how many pounds?but I believe it can support very well.I bought 2weeks ago,I paid $799,now is less expensive,I like to give 5 stars.

Q: 8. Once the center column is removed can I install the Gitzo G-2020 ballast hook in its place?

A: We are not sure what you are asking. If the column is removed, there is no place to attach the head, let alone a ballast hook. So that we may best assist you, please email us at provideo@bhphoto.com.

Q: 9. Does the tripod platform have set screws that function to prevent the head from coming unscrewed? I know that on the GIGT1545T Traveler Series there are no set screws.

A: Yes.

Q: 10. Can the center column be removed and inverted like the traveler models? I know it can be removed and just the base reinstalled for low shots. But I may wish to shoot with the camera suspended beneath the legs at some point. Thanks in advance.

A: Yes this is easy to do. There is a threaded end cap with the hook to hold a weight on the bottom of the center column. This is removed and the column comes completely out once you loosen the locking collar. It can be reversed and locked in place using the same locking collar. There is a guide pin which prevent rotation of the column. Rotation of your camera is accomplished with the head you choose. I have the small ball head and this has worked well. The entire combination is very light and still rigid and works well for travel.

[27.5 x 5 x 5"] I finally bit the bullet and bought a premium tripod. I know that cost is an issue but the value is there. I followed the usual route buying and getting rid of inferior tripods. The buck has finally stopped with this Gitzo. It operates smoothly and is easy to pack & deploy quickly. Very rigid. Clever quick conversion to short column for low to the ground shots. I love this thing!

[Carbon Fiber] I use this tripod with an RRS BH-30 for my OM-D EM1MkII and the 40-150mm lens and tele-extender. I also use this tripod with my spotting scope, by easily changing heads. I can extend and retract the legs easily and very quickly. Vibration-free, even under windy conditions, and a nice lightweight, stable tripod.

[Removable] Light weight and sturdy. The leg sections move smoothly and lock in place with out much effort applied to the twist locks. It is very nice just like the other Gitzo tripod I own.

[Yes] I no longer have to miss photo opportunities because of a heavy load of gear. The GT1532 is a breeze to carry around and set up, particularly compared to my aluminum tripod. I shot some landscape examples with my walking-around lens and with Canons 11-24mm monster. Not a hint of vibration with either. So far Im delighted with the results. I think the flip lock for leg extension is easier to use on my old model than Gitzos twist lock, but that may simply be a factor of getting used to it. In any event, its a minor irritation compared to the advantages of using a great, lightweight tripod. Definitely recommend it to friends.

[5.1 lb] Bought this because my Manfrotto broke beyond repair. The Gitzo is light even with my Really Right Stuff BH55 ball head. Sturdy and easy to use, this tripod is the one to get if you want a great tripod.

[5.1 lb] Easily handles heaviest gear that Ive placed on it so far (gripped D500 Nikon w/Nikkor 200-500mm).  Seems solid & stable.  Found no sign of vibrations in photos.  Extremely well made & works smoothly with no issues so far.  Wish that Id bought this one years ago & skipped the ones that I did.

[Twist Lock] I bought this Gitzo to replace my thirty year old solid Bogen 3036. The Gitzo is everything I was looking for. It set up very easily and it is over spec for my current cameras and lenses but I don't believe I will ever out grow its capability. I know it is less expensive to purchase top quality and only buy it once in the long run. I highly recommend this tripod.
B&H service was excellent. It came securely packaged and it was delivered as promised. Years of my experience with B&H leaves me with absolute trust in their honesty.

[Carbon Fiber] I haven't purchased a Gitzo in many years and when I received this new one, I enjoyed seeing the new features: easier to pull the tab out to fold the legs out and the auto return to their resting position-great! Good fit and finish as always
