Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the M11 handgrip which has an Arca Swiss plate built into it?

A: Yes, this Arca Swiss Monoball Z1 + Single Pan Flip Lock Head can work with the Leica M11 Handgrip which is Arca compatible.

Q: 2. What is the position distance for a full turn of the knob on the Arca-Swiss Monoball X-Table System? Thanks.

A: When using the Arca-Swiss Monoball X-Table System. the position distance is 3.5 inches.

Q: 3. What is the width of this rail? I have a Monoball P0 which can take a 32mm rail only. Is there a cheaper alternative that is 32mm wide that you can recommend?

A: The nodal set is for the PO head and is the width of that quick release system. So it should work fine on the head you have. For that head, Monoball P0 this is the only one we are aware of that will work.

Q: 4. Will this model work with RRS camera plates? I have heard this won't clamp tight enough.

A: I use this Arca Swiss ballhead with RRS camera plates and have never had a problem. There is a knurled ring to adjust the setting position of the clamp, and once adjusted correctly for the style of plates you are using, the quick-release mechanism works perfectly.

Q: 5. Can the mounting plates be turned 90 degrees from what is pictured? I'd like the plat to be parallel to the L bars.

A: No, in the Arca-Swiss Universal L-Bracket (Flip-Lock), the mounting plates can't be turned 90 degrees from what is pictured. That is the plates can't be parallel to the L bars.

Q: 6. Is this Z1+?

A: The Z1G is the plus model: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1295156-REG/arca_swiss_monoball_z1g_single_pan.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1029543-REG/arca_swiss_801123_monoball_classic_z1_double.html

Q: 7. Can the clamp be rotated?

A: No, it does not rotate. Also the bottom of the rail is for the smaller clamp and is not a standard Arca-Swiss size.If you want a one that works like that but is standard and you can rotate it. There is one by Acratech. And there is another option by Sirui, a base that can attach to a rail that allows you to rotate.

Q: 8. Hi I'm interest to buy Z1 sp for my Canon 5DMK3. Please recommend camera plate fit for it.Thanks

A: For use with the Monoball Z1 sp and 5D III, you might look at the Arca-Swiss Universal Quick Release Plate with 1/4 Screw (B&H # ARQRP80.25).

Q: 9. Hi, I'm interested in buying the Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1 sp with Quick Release #801104. I would like to know what is the best plate for a Canon 5D MK III without a battery grip? Also, which plate would I need for a canon 70-300mmm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM? Thank you.

A: Hi, these plates will cover all your needs.

Q: 10. What's the different between arcs swiss z1 801103 and 801104?The different in price is only 10 cent.

A: The Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1, Mfr # 801103 has a regular knob to lock the plate in place. The other one, #801104 has a flip lock instead of a knob. Otherwise they are about the same.

[Lever] Works very good with heavy short lenses and with my SAL70400 (Sony G lens 70-400 mm). Extremely smooth movement of the ball head and the break knob. It is very satisfying and fun to work with.

[Lever] This head is fabulous. Very stable. Very smooth. Solidly built. Some have mentioned that they did not like the quick release flip lock lever's safety switch. However, I find it comforting to know that you can't accidentally snag the flip lock lever and release the plate. Once you're used to sliding the tiny switch, it is just as fast and easy to operate as any other quick release flip lock, IMHO. The head is VERY stable and the controls are simple, functional and reliable. My only minor complaint is the pan adjustment knob's very close proximity to the main adjustment knob. It is nice to have them close, I'm just not sure I would've put them that close. Still deserves five stars as far as I'm concerned.

[Lever] I use this Monoball Z1 a few years with Nikon 300mm lens. It is quick release and lock as it said. It does not easily slip like others.

[Yes] Just got back from a few weeks of a hiking trip in Patagonia. I actually brought two ball heads (this and a manfrotto 054) and tried them under similar circumstances. Good things- I love the simple design. I carry my tripod on the side of my backpack. The monoball seemed pretty rugged during the entire trip and didn't have a lot of parts to get snagged on branches. Once the monoball is set up right, I the monoball is incredibly solid, even in 40-50 MPH winds. I also liked that I could have a longer bracket for more stabilty on my sigma 50-500 lens and a smaller bracket for the camera to use with smaller lenses. All in all, I did feel that when set up right and locked in, it was easier to use and had a bit more stability than the manfrotto. Downsides. The quick release is quirky at times. I was using fingerless gloves but it still took a lot of dexterity. As comparison, the manfrotto has a much easier release. If you are having to take your camera on and off a tripod quickly or repetitively, it may not be the best system. Also, I'd agree with others- the instruction booklet that comes with this isn't that helpful. Finally, if you do take this out into the field, don't forget to bring your allen wrenches. I did have my plate loosen from my lens one time. Compared to the manfrotto which you can just retighten with your fingers, you need to have an allen wrench to retighten these.

[0.7 lb] This is my 3rd Arca-swiss since 1996. It is the best in the business. They can withstand a heavy impact. The last one fell on a rock and it still works OK. The quick release is a real plus. Only the last step you have to use your finger nail to get it to work.

[0.7 lb] I've found this tripod head to function extremely well and found it capable of supporting heavy and imbalanced loads with ease. I especially like the double-locking action of the quick release, so that I can't accidentally drop my camera when adjusting the plate. The small dial on the tension knob also allows setting a minimum friction, which is another fantastic fantastic feature that prevents the ball head from falling over at slack tension. Super solid.

[Lever] It exceeded my expectations. The ballhead is smooth, precise and well built. Using it with my RRS TVC-33 offers excellent stability for longer exposures!

[0.7 lb] You are hanging $5K + on it if you have good equipment, don't skimp on the ball head. We've tried them all - RRS, Gitzo, and AcraTech - none come close to the construction and solidity of the Arca-Swiss. Yes, it is expensive, and yes, its a bit heavy, but you clearly get what you pay for. We hang Canon 1 series and Nikon D3 series bodies with heavy lenses on this head all day and have never had a single issue. One of the best pieces of hardware we own. Skip the rest, get this head!

[0.7 lb] Top quality Ball Head. This is what you'd expect from swiss made. I use this on my Gitzo 2531 and it's simply perfect. The instruction is poor but simple enough to fiqure out. I am glad I got the Flip-lock quick release. Once I figured out how to adjust the lock (thanks to robert white on youtube)It has been working flawlessly and Fast. It can accomodate my Kirk L Bracket.
