The Samsung NX mount Samyang 8mm f/2.8 Fisheye II Lens Samsung NX Mountis a prime fisheye lens specifically designed for APS-C sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm and full 180° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for creative applications as well as interior and architectural subjects. Its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, the lens' design features a built-in lens hood and a UMC coating has been applied to the lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

180° fisheye lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm, making it ideally suited for interior and architectural subjects.

Fast f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions in order to produce sharper images.

UMC coating improves light transmission and suppresses lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich, color-neutral images.

Built-in lens hood also helps to reduce lens flare and surface reflections.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a chip version of this lens that allows a Canon EOS camera to confirm focus? Thanks!

A: Unfortunately, there is no version of this lens which offers a focus confirmation chip for Canon EOS.

Q: 2. is the focal throw is good for video or better to buy the cine version ?

A: The throw of the Samyang 16mm f/2.0 is roughly 120~135 degrees based on my estimation after playing with it in the store. The Cine version is likely only different in that it has follow-focus gears. If you are interested in getting gears for this lens separately and using the lens for both photo and video, that would make this lens a very versatile choice. The diameter of the focus ring is 73.9mm.

Q: 3. Please excuse my newbie ignorance, but is it possible to put an ND filter on this lens?

A: No, the lens doesn't have filter threads.

Q: 4. Does this lens (for Nikon) have 1. focus confirmation, and 2. electronic circuit connectivity for exposure control (Auto, Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority)? Thank you, and Happy New Year.

A: I use it on a Nikon D300s and it has the focus confirmation light in the viewfinder. The lens also works in Program, AP, SP modes. Hope this is helpful.

Q: 5. Is this the same as the Samyang AE8mm as shown in this photo?http://www.dpreview.com/news/2011/11/25/samyang8nikon?utm_campaign=internal-link&utm_source=news-list&utm_medium=text&ref=title_8Your photo does not show the AE8mm in the lens?

A: It is the same lens. The image on the link you provided is 2 years old, so it is possible that Samyang changed the cosmetic appearance of the lens. Regardless of the lack of the mention AE on the lens, it is still the same lens.

Q: 6. is this compatible with Sony Alpha a6000 (B&H # SOA6000B) ?

A: What kind lens correct siny A6300?

Q: 7. the lens is made from plastic or metal ?

A: These lenses are of a high quality plastic.

Q: 8. Does this work with the Fuji X100F?

A: The Fuji X100F would be a point and shoot camera with a fixed lens. This lens only works on Fuji X series mirrorless cameras like the X-T3.

Q: 9. Does this lens fit on a Canon 5d mark III?

A: Sorry, no, it does not for two reasons. 1. This lens is for a mirrorless camera and is designed to be closer to the sensor. This has the advantage of reducing the lens and camera size. However, if you were able to mount the lens on a 5D Mark III, this lens would be forced to be too far away from the sensor and consequently it could not focus. 2. Even if you could mount it and focus it still would not work because it cannot make an image that would cover the entire sensor. Thus you would get too small a circle image with a great deal of black surrounding it.For your application you can use the Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 ED AS IF NCS UMC Fisheye Lens for Canon EF Mount. See attached link.

Q: 10. Will this manual lens be suitable for nighttime wide angle astrophotography for a Canon T3i DSLR?

A: Most zooms have maximum apertures of f:3.5 to f:4.0. With this opening at f:2.0, you gain two stops of light. It would be for instance the equivalent of being able to take a picture at ISO 400 instead of 1600 or to take a picture at 1/15 of a sec. instead of 1/4. Since astrophotography must be taken on a tripod anyways and asks for slow speeds, I would not say that this lens is really a plus for astrophotography. But it is a good quality lens for the price.

[APS-C] Had the rokinon 8mm f3.5 lens and it wasnt nearly as sharp as i had hoped, this 8mm f2.8 lens is what id hoped for. Found that at f5.6 to f8 focused between a meter and infinity its sharp close and far. very nice depth and very nice color as well, have found very little need to tweak images ive taken with this lens and my Sony A6300. It is manual focus and aperture, but with such a wide latitude of focus you will rarely miss AF.

[APS-C] Upon receiving, I immediately attached it to my Canon EOS M3 and started firing away. The build quality is fantastic and doesn't seem cheap at all. Focusing ring is firm and smooth and no freeplay. Not only aperture ring has detents in the main apertures from f2.8 to f16, there are half-stops in between these ranges. From f16 to f22 it is only a single stop. The lens is sharp even when wide open, and gets sharper when stopped down. As it is a manual focus lens, by default the shutter will not release so navigate to custom functions in the camera menu to enable shutter release without lens. An excellent fisheye lens from Samyang!

[f/22] First in Spanish then I try to translate. I buy this lens to go on a vacation trip with my Sony NEX-5T recently, for this price it's an excellent lens. It's very compact and fast, could stay forever on the camera if the barrel effect of a Fisheye don't bother you. I could compare it with the Rokinon Cine 14mm T3.1, besides the photo quality differences, the physic size difference it's huge, and a full open it was very good the Samyang 8mm 2.8 over the Rokinon. Some reviewers complain on the Focus Ring, and it's true, it's hard to move it. But in wide shoots there's no need to move the focus control every time. I was amazed by long exposure photos with this lens, it's easy to take and get Sharp results, even wide open.

[Manual Focus] I used the lens for ultra wide artistic shots. Perfect with my a6300. Very cheap, but the built quality is very high. However, it is heavier than I expected. Images are really sharp if you don't forget to focus manually. I love the small size and the lens hood is perfect. Even though I already own a 10-18 f4, I will not let go of this beautiful lens.

[f/2.8] I got this to round out the lenses I needed to go with my new Fuji X-T1 system. I already had the Canon 15mm fisheye, but like many others, have decided to move from my Canon 5D MK3 system and my Nikon D800 system, in favor of the smaller Fuji X series. I made this decision after testing the X100S and seeing how wonderful the digital files were .... as good or better than my MK3 and almost as good as my D800 files. Anyways, this new 8mm fisheye is very sharp. Again, maybe a bit soft at the edges wide open, but I have mine basically set to about 1 meter and F8, for my architectural photography, and never have to really focus! It is very compact ... actually smaller than the Fujinon 18-55. A great lens at an even better price. Doesn't really need to be AF.
