Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the Live U support HLS - HTTP Live Streaming? Will it in the future?

A: The LiveU Solo SDI/HDMI Video Encoder with 3-Connection Starter Kit does not support HLS / HTTP streaming at this time. LiveU has not stated whether it will support this in the future.

Q: 2. Does the equipment come with a power charger and extension cables for internet modems? What exactly is in this package? What is the virtual cloud server? What is the difference of this package with the one that costs 1849 dollars?

A: Hi bamk R. Yes it comes with a power connection and everything you see here. The package you are looking at is for our Solo HDMI bundle. The cloud server is where we do our bonding, apply our panted LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) algorithm to the signal for the highest possible quality stream. The main difference between this and the more expensive one is the connections on the unit. The higher priced model has both HDMI and SDI inputs. Hope this answers your questions.

Q: 3. The $45 monthly fee is for bonding, then I need cellular subscriptions as well? I add the sim cards to the LiveU Solo? How many can I add?

A: You will have to pay for a cellular subscription as well as the bonding fee. The bonding allows you to connect 2 Cellular Networks along with 1 WiFi and 1 Ethernet Signal. You can connect 2 Cellular Modems.

Q: 4. Can I live-stream video to some platforms (Wowza, Facebook, ...) without your bonding ( like other encoders: VidiU Pro, Broadcaster Pro, ... ) ?

A: Yes, The LRT (which includes bonding) can be disabled. To do so click the toggle switch Labeled LRT . This can be located by click the orange destination cloud under the Modes tab. This will allow the unit to operate in Direct RTMP mode which will only utilize one connection and send the RTMP stream directly to your destination.

Q: 5. Can an external battery be used? Also, can this unit work while charging the unit?

A: Hi Brian, Yes, you can use an external battery accessory with the unit and it can work while charging. Thank you for your question.

Q: 6. Does cell service charge flat rate for use or by bandwidth used?

A: Hi Brian, It's a montly or annual fee, not by bandwidth used.

Q: 7. The slides I have are quite old - circa 1960.. Each slide has been encased in metal. Will the slide go into the viewer as is?

A: Yes - I found some old slides my father had that are in an Airequipt Slide Changer holder each slide is in a metal frame. Each individual slide will fit in my Kaiser diascop mini 3 but only horizontally

Q: 8. Does the Solo only run off of its internal battery, or may it be powered via wall wart or other external power source?

A: You can use either. There is a 120 minute internal battery as well as a power cable.

Q: 9. Does it take 2 x 2 slides ?

A: I use it for viewing 35mm mounted slides, which measure 2 x2 . Side of box reads: Full coverage, big picture viewing of 35mm, and all other 2x2in (5x5cm) mounted slides.

Q: 10. Does this unit bond the download as well. If I am downloading content onsite will i get the use of all attached internet sources?

A: Unfortunately, the LiveU Solo does not bond the download.

[None] This is the perfect complement to a video switch that doesn't do audio. We recently went from Black Magic to Ross and needed an audio embedder and this one is perfect! It has meters built in for you can see how much audio you are inputting.

[None] I bought this for a church. Our services are considered mission critical. Our live stream is very important to us, we don't want to have any down time or lack of quality. That is why we bought this product. We have used datavideo before and they have lasted us a long time.

A few things to know:
1. The power adaptor cable is not the most robust. It does have a screw on type connector, but it isn't the strongest. I accidentally dropped the unit and bent the power connected where it screws onto the device. I tried to bend it back in place and it broke off completely. Not cool. Luckily I have some other datavideo equipment around and was able to connect another power supply while a new one comes in the mail.

2. The device has male mini XLR connectors. If you're from the audio world (like me) you know this is backwards. You can easily find male mini XLR to female XLR. But it is harder to find the opposite. What it doesn't say on this website (BHphoto), is what's in the box. Funny, it doesn't even say on the datavideo website. When I ordered the product I ordered separate cables too. BUT, I didn't need to. In the box with the datavideo product they give you two mini XLR female to XLR female cables. How nice of them! But I wish I woulda known.

3. When you connect audio to this device it will show you nothing. No signs of life. It has audio meters, but nothing will appear. I was frustrated, knowing I was sending audio but not seeing the meter move. Finally I thought, let me connect the SDI cable. Still nothing. Then I turned on my switcher. Nothing. Then I turned on the camera and made sure I was sending a signal. When the device saw the signal it turned on and showed me audio levels.
Lesson: Send a signal over SDI so the device turns on and you can see and test audio meters.

A little more info would have been nice, but we got it working.

It is a sturdy little device. I hope it lasts me a long time.

[None] I own 2 of these, one holds 4 Shure ULXP receivers with the antenna/ power disto and the other holds a Behringer S32 Digital Snake I/O Box
perfectly (should be listed on the S32 page because it fits so well...)

[None] I've not had any issues with this product - it does its job well with no fuss. It's also very well made, including the connectors. I was unsure if it would totally strip the audio from the SDI feed (so that there was no audio on the looped output) but this is not the case. The output is 'untouched' and includes audio.
