The PortaRail Speed Rail Camera Slider Rod from RigWheels is a 40" section rod designed for the PortaRail collapsible dolly/slider rail system. The rod is 40" long and can be screwed together via the threaded connectors. The rod is constructed of 6061 aluminum and designed to provide more rigidity. Each piece goes through a 6-step process that makes them straight and round for precision camera movement. You can add as many sections as you need for longer shots. This rod can also be used with other suspended or ground-rail systems that work with a 42mm outer diameter.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can it be used with the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x lens mounted on a 6D?

A: Yes it can

Q: 2. What is the max load that can be hanged under the slider on the full 20' length tubing?

A: The max load of the RigWheels Complete Monorail Kit with 20' PortaRail Speed Rail is 40 lb.

Q: 3. How is this rail for focus stacking?

A: You set a manual focus and then take multiple pictures, each time turning the slider a few millimeters forward between pictures. This gives you a series of pictures each focused on a different plane. The rail ensures the series of frames has minimal differences in framing so all the pics line up. You then use stacking software e.g. Helicon or photoshop to stack the pics combining each in-focus plane creating one picture with increased depth of field. The rail works reasonably well for the price btw. There is some movement but for beginners in macro it works well.

Q: 4. How much weight will it support in a vertical movement and /or how well does it lock in place so gravity does not pull it down?

A: my camera canon 6d and my canon mpe65 macro lens weighs about 5# I have had no problem with movement at all it don't even creep when hung vertical I love it

Q: 5. Thinking of building a cheap panoramic solution. Can anyone let me know whether what I'm thinking is feasible (thread compatibility, sturdiness)? 1. This rail as the lower horizontal rail; 2. Add Desmond DLR-2002 as the vertical rail; 3. Attach FEISOL PB-70 Panning Base to DLR-2002 (is it even possible?), then Desmond DAC-38 Quick Release Clamp to PB-70, and finally attach a Desmond DNR-180 to the clamp as the upper rail.

A: Yes, everything you describe should work no problem.

Q: 6. Can I buy the storage bag separately? The zipper on mine broke off entirely.

A: Unfortunately the storage bag is not available separately.

Q: 7. Does this fit directly and lock into the Manfrotto 500AH or is another arca swiss clamp required as a bridge between Manfrotto and this rail?

A: Manfrotto 500AH does not have Arca Compatible clamp. You should use the Kirk Quick Release Bridge System for Manfrotto MVH 500 Fluid Video Head. Here is the link: https://bhpho.to/3iAaLHn

Q: 8. Difference between this and the FR2?

A: The FR3 unlike the FR2 has built in safety stops on the upper quick release carriage.

Q: 9. With a 100mm macro on a canon 1d, can it handle the weight?

A: Yes, it will hold weight of the 1D and the 100mm macro.

Q: 10. What color is on the other side of the reflector when gold is out? Thanks!

A: White is on the opposite side of Sunlight.

[3.5 lb (1.6 kg)] Very impressed with the strength of the magnet. Did not move for an entire week mounted sideways.

[40" (1 m)] I'm REALLY happy with this little mount, and impressed with the strength of the hold. The material that surrounds the base (and makes contact with the metal surface) is padded, so I never have to worry about it scratching anything.

Looking forward to more uses for it - it's opened up a whole new set of possibilities for camera angles now.

[40" (1 m)] Fits our 1-1/2 speed rail perfectly. They should change the title for the US market. The 1-1/2 speed rail standard has 1-7/8 outer diameter that fits this.

[1.65" (41.9 mm)] We utilize the RMH1 for multiple activities; it is used to mount our laser alignment tool on our high-speed printers, or to mount a camera on any machine to record and evaluate performance. Even with machine vibration, magnet holds great and the lock-down for the ball head keeps the laser pointer and camera very steady.

[1.65" (41.9 mm)] I was hesitant to use a magnetic solution to mount to the bumper of my 4x4. But this is working great. I'm still a little nervous at times so I'm thinking of getting a safety strap of some kind.

[40" (1 m)] RigWheels product is a good solution for many videographers. For me, as a cinematographer, each rigwheels component makes me easy to build my own idea for dolly. I would recommend it to everyone.

[1.65" (41.9 mm)] I have to say these things were a life saver on a shoot I was just on. Not only did they resist high wind speed and keep their shape, but they are light as a feather. Something that will stand the test of time! Good Purchase.
