A: After using the Tamron G2 all summer shooting eagles, osprey, herrings and other wildlife, it has brought me stunning consistent results with my Df. (D4 sensor) Since I shoot a lot from the water I like that it can take some light water splashes. I almost went with the Nikon but wanted better seals, more reach, better sharpness at the long end and like the metal main body supporting things. I had an older 600 mm prime but the weight was too much and was not sharper. The Sport is also a great lens but did not test quite as sharp from the many reviews I have read and it is a lot heaver and cost more.

A: The previous answer my Milton Y. is spot on. In addition, it has a dynamic lock capability to lock in the zoom at any level - simply pull the zoom ring back a small amount. I have shot with both versions of this lens and the G2 was a great improvement.
