Purchase the Promise Extended Warranty at any time during the 3-year warranty period of the VTrak Expansion Chassis. It is recommended to purchase the extension at the time of initial purchase to avoid any interruption of the warranty coverage.

Upon receiving the extended warranty kit you will also find a pair of stickers. You can use them to write down your product serial number of the VTrak Expansion Chassis. Place one sticker on the VTrak unit and keep the other one with the contract for easy reference when you register or call for service.

You must register this contract and the VTrak unit to which it applies to activate coverage. Contract registration and product registration are two separate actions. But you can do them online at the same time to avoid a delay when you call for service.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it safe to plug an unplug my macbook pro?

A: Yes, you can safely unplug it once the drive has been ejected.

Q: 2. If I remove the disks as the are filled, can rebuild the same raid without loose the files?

A: If you had the G-Technology G-RAID Thunderbolt 2/USB 3.0 8TB array setup in RAID 1, and a drive failed, you would be able to replace the failed drive and rebuild the array without loss of data. If you were using the array in RAID 0, or JBOD, you would see data loss.

Q: 3. What is the read/write speed of this model running at RAID-0? I want to buy a working RAID running at RAID-0 and a backup RAID running at RAID-6.

A: Preconfigured in Raid 5 (w/Blackmagic speed test) I got 828 write and 834 read. Once in Raid 10 (and walked through by tech support leaving all settings, sector sizes etc. in default) the test revealed 589 write and 629 read. I read in one of the reviews here that someone got 1,200 overall in Raid 5! I've got the latest Mac Pro w/processor 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, Memory 64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC, Thunderbolt 2... Don't know how they got that speed... Also, sorry I didn't answer your question about Raid 0 or Raid 6 speed. I saw people chiming in otherwise, and noticed at the moment this is the only speed related post here.

Q: 4. I just purchased this drive and am not able to configure on my mac. It is saying I only have 4tb of space to use so I am assuming it is in RAID 1 mode, but no way of knowing for sure. Does anyone have suggestions on how to configure properly?

A: You can find the configuration utility for this drive at the link below.a href= http://download.g-technology.com/software/gtc-1.0.38.zip target= _blank http://download.g-technology.com/software/gtc-1.0.38.zip/a

Q: 5. In an event of a drive failure. What can I use as a replacement?

A: SCOTT - I don't know. I've had it for a few months now - works great, super fast, but no failures yet so I haven't had to deal with that issue. Mike

Q: 6. How do you change it from RAID 0 to RAID 1? I dont see any hardware toggle/switch/dial.

A: Hi, you would need the RAID Configration Utility, which you can freely download from our website :a href= http://support.g-technology.com/support/g-raid-usb-removable target= _blank http://support.g-technology.com/support/g-raid-usb-removable/aThere is a version for Mac or Windows depending on your platform, and in the How to section on that page there are instructions you may follow. If you need any help, please feel free to contact us :a href= http://support.g-technology.com/contact/contact_support target= _blank http://support.g-technology.com/contact/contact_support/a

Q: 7. Do the Pegasus2 RAIDs internally support encryption, or do I need to reformat them with Apple's Disk Utility as Mac OS Extended (Jounaled, Encrypted) ?

A: The Pegasus2 R6 does not support hardware encryption. You would need to reformat with an encrypted filesystem as you suggested, or use a third party option.

Q: 8. Hi there. I have managed to drop this and a little bit of plastic has broken and the front door will not stay shut. It still works fine but hard to transport and, even with tape, the drives come lose and disengage. Do you sell empty enclosures to replace mine? I have tried for a response with the manufacturer with no luck. Cheers

A: I am sorry we do not carry a replacement enclosure

Q: 9. spare disk ?

A: Yes, the Pegasus2 R6 supports spare disks to be set in the configuration software.

Q: 10. Will the unit back up my photo files within the same folders as I have them in Lightroom? Or will the photos be in some other open list format?

A: If you're backing up with time machine, yes. If these will be your working files, no. Once you move the parent folder (outside LR) you will have to refresh the folder's location so that LR knows that your photos are now in a different hard drive even if they are under the same structure.

[2-Year ] As my old Pentax cameras have lasted forever and are built like tanks I am not expecting to need this warranty but I purchased it because of the reasonable price and length of the warranty ($50 and for 2 years after the Pentax warranty ends).

[2-Year ] Had a 4 bay Synology that was almost full. This was an easy way to expand with 5 more bays. The supplied eSATA cable was long enough to reach the shelf below - the only wire you need between the two units (separate power cord to the expansion unit). Created a second storage volume with 5 new 12TB drives that added about 43TB. You want to make sure you do a second volume for the expansion, not extend your current volume. That way the 5 new disks are are not part of the original 4 disk RAID. Was very fast copying files over the eSATA cable from the old to the new volume.

Pricewise, this is cheaper than buying a new NAS and also saves you configuration time as far as setting up the system, users, etc.

This could also be a good way to backup a NAS. Copy everything to the expansion volume and then power down, unhook the eSATA cable, and take offsite.

[2-Year ] I ran low on storage and needed to expand my existing Synology system. I bought this, added drives, plugged it in, boom, double the storage. It comes with a cable that screws in to your existing system and feels very secure.

[United States] Unpacked, added drives, changed raid type AND expanded storage pool. It took over two weeks for the changes to complete, but I could use my NAS the entire time without interruption! I now have 30 more TBs of storage and 2 drive error protection.

[2-Year ] I started with 4, 4TB drives in my Synology DS920+. I soon replaced those with larger drives. When that was no longer enough, I added the DX517 and bought one more 4TB drive, which added about 14TB to my total usable storage. It was a very fast and easy upgrade. I can also easily expand my storage even more by merely replacing those 4TB drives with larger ones.

I read a lot of reviews beforehand and for safety, ended up creating a second volume; so, each unit has its own. I had to move some folders around to make sense of it all but that too was fast and easy.

This was a very cost-effective way to expand my NAS and I am very pleased with the results.

[United States] One of the reason why I purchased the K-70 from B&H was the availability to purchase the Pentax extended warranty (extends it to 3 years) at a reasonable price. B&H has an excellent reputation and being able to purchase the extended Pentax warranty was icing on the cake.
