The Pentax FA 645 150-300mm f/5.6 ED IF Lensis a telephoto zoom lens designed for medium-format Pentax 645 mount cameras. It has an aperture range of f/5.6-45, and when used on 645 cameras, the lens has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 118.5-237mm. This gives you a wide, versatile range of telephoto focal lengths to choose from during shooting.

This lens has a construction of 15 elements in 13 groups that is designed for high quality images. It even has extra-low dispersion glass elements that minimize the effects of chromatic aberrations and provide high contrast images for maximum resolution. This is all protected by a Super Protect (SP) coating on the front element that lessens the possibility of scratches and makes it easier to clean.

During operation, the lens internally focuses, keeping the large lens as compact as possible, and it switches from auto to manual focus by sliding the focus ring forward or backward. The lens also has a minimum focus distance of 6.6' and a filter thread size of 67mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If used on another camera via an adapter, will it still have full manual control?

A: It depends on the adapter. Ask the adapter Co.

Q: 2. Is this compatible with a K100D?

A: Yes, it is compatible.

Q: 3. Is the K-70 enough camera for this lens?

A: Yes, the K70 will work well with this lens.

Q: 4. What is the spacing between the two mounting holes on the tripod foot? I have a TeleVue tripod head with bolt holes 39mm apart, and it would be a wonderful coincidence if both could be used.

A: just measured -- 40 MM center to center of the holes.

Q: 5. I want to know the diameter of this lens? For example Canon 200 L lens has a diameter of 72mm. How much is for this lens?

A: The diameter of this lens is 74.5mm.

Q: 6. I am confused. If a full frame sensor is smaller than 645, shouldn't the effective focal length increase instead of decrease?

A: Typically, angle-of-view and focal length are described relative to full-frame 35mm as it is more widespread in use. Crop factors would be then be 1x for 35mm, 1.5x for APS-C, and 0.6~0.8 (rough estimate) for medium format sensors. Since this lens is still technically (from physical distance measured stand-point) 400mm from the sensor, it's a 400mm lens. However, its angle-of-view would be equivalent to a 315mm on a full-frame.

Q: 7. Does this lens offer total manual control?

A: Yes this lens offers manual control.

Q: 8. Can this lens be used with the Pentax 645nII (the 120 film camera)?

A: Yes, the Pentax smc FA 645 200mm f/4 IF Lens is compatible with the Pentax 645NII.

Q: 9. Hello...First time using your site, and enjoying its organized informative access, thanks. I'm wondering about the lack of stabilization on this new lens from Pentax. They seemed to have put some thought into this release, is it not worth the added cost?

A: The Pentax DSLRs have built-in image stabilization (In-Camera Shake Reduction System), so Pentax does not incorporate image stabilization into their lenses.

Q: 10. How is this lens being handheld and how is the crop and sharpness on the long end?

A: This depends somewhat on your shooting situation. Please email us at photo@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a for in-depth assistance with your inquiry.

[10.5° to 21°] An outstanding lens that is very sharp--and rugged. I was half way around the world doing two weeks of intense shooting when the lens fell front first four feet onto the floor of a bus. It smashed the UV filter and I thought it was done for. But I got the filter off and discovered nothing wrong with the lens!

[f/5.6] I use this lens with a Pentax K1 and KP for stills and a Fuji XT1 for video and this lens really is good at all focal lengths and focus distances. It's well built and a real pleasure to use. Pentax have done a great job with this lens.

[150 to 300mm] This lens is a winner for any photographer shooting with a medium format Pentax. Easy to use, captures wildlife and landscapes equally well. Durable, dependable, high quality materials for the lens. Cannot go wrong with this lens. Shipped timely and securely. Thanks, B&H!

[f/5.6] Every picture taken with this lens has wowed me. It was a lot of money to spend but the results help make the cost money well spent. I use this lens on my Pentax K1. For samples visit my Instagram at @carlostalbott

[Autofocus] Very sharp, essential lens to have as part of your gear for wildlife photographers who love to kayak and hike. Water resistance a must. I use a uv filter to protect this lens. In the airport, filter was broken but lens at that time remained intact. I am able to hand hold this lens and capture amazing photographs. This is second time I have purchased this lens. The first one barrel was bent due to a drop. Fortunately insurance covered most of the lost. I love this lens. The only downside, servicing for Pentax is very limited in the US.

[8] I havent got time yet to test it so much, bought it two weeks ago, but it is a fanstastic lens, very sharp. One thing that surprised me was the way to change between automatic and manual focus. It was a new thing for me that you changed it on the top of the lens, but now when I know, it is absolutely no problem. I can really recommend it, because of the macroeffects.

[0.18x] I am a full time commercial/promotional photographer and made the switch to the pentax 645z for my commercial and higher end individual shoots. After a few months I had acquired all of the main lenses for this system including the amazing 120mm macro. Out of the 150, 200 and 120mm currently available for this camera, the 120mm is the real standout. The lens is used almost daily in my studio and stands up against the 90mm easily. As a matter of fact, I did side by side tests against the super pricey 90mm for the pentax 645z and couldnt not see enough of an image quality difference to justify keeping the 90mm. Its sharp, focuses quickly, built like a tank and has zero vignetting and ca. Overall an amazing lens that is almost a required purchase if you shoot fashion/headshots on the 645z!

[Autofocus] It's a 400mm f/5.6, internal focus, and that wonderful Pentax AF/MF slider mechanism on the focus ring. I just can't get over how ridiculously long the setup is when locked on the front of a 645D. It has detents at 90 degrees on the rotating collar. It comes with a carrying pouch with neck strap.

[67 mm (Front)] Yes, it's heavy. And big. But sharp and quick to focus, so that makes it worth it. It includes a rugged and well-padded case, which is good because this lens is too big for my photo backpack. Having owned mostly cheaper lenses, I was stunned by the way this one snaps into focus. For a guy with old eyes, this is important. I'm just sorry I wasted so much money on relatively cheap lenses before I decided to try this one. It's a game changer.
