The LG WH16NS40 Internal Blu-ray Disc Rewriter OEMsupports a wide variety of optical media. In addition to writing data to DVD and Blu-ray discs at a speed of 16x, it also supports CD burning, and can write and read large-format quad-, triple-, and double-layer BD-R discs. This Blu-ray burner also supports the playback of 3D Blu-ray discs when used with optional 3D media, 3D glasses, and a 3D display. Built-in 4MB buffer under-run prevention helps to keep disc writing errors to a minimum.

LG Super Multi Blue optical drives can read and write four types of disc formats in one convenient package. The four disc types are DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-RAM and Blu-ray Disc.

The BDXL format supports high-capacity Blu-ray discs (up to 128GB write-once discs) for users that need to store a large amount of data.

Serial ATA is a 1.5 Gb/s replacement for the Parallel ATA physical storage interface used to connect storage devices, such as hard disks and DVD and CD writers to the PC motherboard. Serial ATA is scalable, enables design of smaller PCs, and allows future enhancements to the computing platform.

When used with optional M-DISC optical media, M-DISC technology provides a long-term storage solution that retains data much longer than standard media.

A: firmware update? On site, there is no firmware on asus.

A: Unfortunately, ASUS does not publish the firmware version that ships with their models as this may vary depending on the manufacturing date. These models all ship under the same part number, so there is no way, unfortunately, to be sure.

Q: 4. Is this item new in the box?

A: This specific sku or item is just for the bare drive. Came to me packaged decently, but it's not a retail box and does not come with any accessories or software. I think it came with screws, but you will need to provide a sata cable and power cable, and if you intend on using this drive to watch blu ray movies (which Im sure you will obviously), you need to purchase blu ray playback software like Powerdvd ultra. After connecting my drive and installing the powerdvd ultra software, things work great! Not one problem in the 6 months Ive had it.

Q: 5. IN THE BOX does not state screws and cable. Is that true?

A: I checked the box for the drive I got said it included serial ATA cable and mounting screws. I bought the drive 1.5 years ago and can't remember if that was true, but it probably was. I wouldn't have needed either since I have spares. The drive is excellent and I recommend it.

A: I am assuming you talking about the driver software. Just go to the asus website to get the latest software to install

A: It can write quad layer to 128GB.

A: Sorry, no. The LG WH16NS40 16x Internal Super Multi Blue Blu-ray Disc Rewriter (OEM Version) will only work on regular Blu-ray's. Also, this is only sold in multiples of 10 pieces. Not single units.

[4 MB] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this drive for probably 8-10 years now, and it has never let me down. I typically use it with BD-R (25GB) and DVD+R DL (8.5GB) media (because higher capacity discs are just too expensive for me to justify the cost). In today's age of disposable products, it's nice to see something that not only does what it was designed to do, but also lasts a long time. 5

[9 x 8.4 x 4.8"] Had to restore my computer to factory specs after Windows 10 upgrade. Unfortunatley the Blu-ray part of the disc drive had obsolete software and would only play regular DVD's and the Lightscribe software has been discontinued so I bought this baby. It works better than the one that came with the computer. 5

[4 MB] This is the same unit made for retail except it's only the drive, no cables, software or mounting parts. Works very good and is plenty fast. No noise, quiet as a mouse once a BD has started to play. 5

[1.7 lb] Ordered this on a Wednesday, had it delivered the next day, unboxed it, shut off the PC and opened the case, installed this new unit, and was burning DVDs all in less than 15 minutes. It could not have been easier (save for someone installing it for me.) Great price and it has worked flawlessly. No software issue or hardware handshake problems. LG quality. 5
