Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a cable pass through from the front pocket to the main compartment to allow connecting to a MX-Hirose DC power input sled from a NP1 style battery?

A: Yes, the Strut STR-MP6 Custom-Fit Field Case for Sound Devices MixPre-6 has a small opening to pass cables through to the main compartment from the front pocket.

Q: 2. Will this work with a Sound Devices 302?

A: This bag is made specifically for the Sound Devices Mix Pre 3, which is smaller than the 302. The Porta Brace Silent Audio Organizer Case for Field Recorders, B&H # POAO15SILENT would be a great option.

Q: 3. How much does it weigh?

A: The manufacturer has not provided the weight of the Strut STR-MP6 Custom-Fit Field Case by itself. The shipping weight (including the packaged case is listed as 0.75 lbs., which is 12 oz. (340.2 g).

Q: 4. Can I use this for the mixpre 3 just using the extra room for storage for maybe another anker battery pack?

A: You can but the MixPre 3 will have more room to move around since the pocket to hold it well be an inch or so bigger.

Q: 5. It states this can accommodate L series sled option. Will it actually fit with 1 or t2 np batteries in sled while using the Mixpre-6?

A: Yes it does. I just picked up the L-series sled and two Watson NP-F770 batteries (4400mHa) and have them installed on the Mixpre-6 in the Strut case. It's hard to tell from the picture, but there is a slot in the bottom of the case through which the sled protrudes, allowing you to install / swap batteries, and two velcro flaps that wrap around the whole assembly. The flaps are long enough that they would easily wrap around two of the biggest L-series batteries (7800 mHa). The batteries recess quite a bit into the sled, so they don't stick out as much as I expected . . . and actually allow you to stand the mixer up on a flat surface which is a nice happy accident.

Q: 6. Does this case work with a shoulder strap?

A: Yes. It does come with a "harness"

Q: 7. Have anyone tried to fit a 702 in this bag ?

A: The Strut STR-MP6 is a custom-fit field case for the Sound Devices MixPre-6 and the dimensions of the MixPre-6 are 1.4 x 6.5 x 4.6" (36 x 166 x 118 mm). The dimensions of the Sound Devices 702 are 1.8 x 8.2 x 4.9” (45 x 209 x 125 mm) which is larger than the MixPre-6 on all sides, especially for the length across which is 1.7" longer. The 702 is not going to fit inside the STR-MP6 case. We do have other cases that will fit the 702, like the PortaBrace Audio Recorder Case for Sound Devices 702, 722, and 744 (B&H # POAR7B) and PortaBrace Audio Organizer Case (B&H # POAO15XB).

Q: 8. is this protective case black as in the photo or blue Porta Brace?

A: It is black.

Q: 9. can this be worn around the waist? and can a connection be ran to the recorder while pouch is completely closed?

A: Yes it can be worn around the waist with the proper harness, and on the side of the bag there's space for cables to come out while the bag is closed.

Q: 10. Does this fit the PIx-E5 or the Pix-E7?

A: This case is sized for the PIX-E 7 so you are good to go if you have that one. However, if you have a 5 , while it would fit inside easily enough, we have not been able to ascertain how well that would work. If you have further questions, please call, chat or email us at B&H.

[2.4 lb] There are a few solid bag options out there for the 664, but this one is pretty spectacular. Lots of clever cable routing, modular enough for different load-outs. Fully loaded with; central power, wireless boom, 5 lavs, camera hops & separate IFBs for video village and boom, the only cable that ever leaves the bag is my headphone lead. No more rats nest of cables every time I move one thing around in a rush. I've taken to keeping it fully loaded in a pelican case, when I arrive on set, I'm ready to go. No more waiting on sound... Mine's in its 4th year of service and still going strong. Pairs nicely with the Versa-Flex HS1N harness for those longer days on the run, or set it up sideways on a few pelican cases and kick back for talking head interviews. This thing feels like a sound cart with a shoulder strap.

[Shoulder Strap] This is not the smallest bag for the mixpre but I can get all my sound gear in it. Using 2 G3s and a lav for me for questions I have hands free to film. All packs neatly in the bag, including a usb battery for the mixpre, with room to spare. Surprisingly comfortable when filming all day.

[2.4 lb] I piggyback this case with the similar Porta Brace bag to use the AD 302 field mixer with the AD 702 recorder in the field. The front pocket of either bag does not have side access for the cabling, so one bag won't accommodate both devices. Two of these or two of the Porta Brace would work just as well. I recommend using a Versa Flex harness with this setup or you will have serious back fatigue by the end of a long recording day.

[Shoulder Strap] I got this to hold my new SD 302, and couldn't be happier. My wife used it on my last production shoot and, not being a field sound recordist, commented that she would like to have a waistbelt to take some load off the shoulders after standing for hours. Most larger field recording bags do have waste belts, but we quickly rigged up an old webbing belt through the attached loops which worked fine. It's a small bag, so you won't be carrying much weight anyway, but for a long day you might want to think about rigging your own belt. Otherwise, the case is perfect for my needs, and is a perfect companion for the SD 302.

[Shoulder Strap] Has lots of options for your gear and lots of room. Boom holder is nice too and also the option for the media slot on the bottom.
