The Gitzo GT1532 Mountaineer Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripodfrom Gitzo GT1532 Mountaineer Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripodfeatures Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT1532 has a load capacity of 44.1 lb, extends to a maximum height of 62.2", and folds down to 24.4" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 6.7". Its three-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A ballast hook on the center column allows you to add weight to increase the tripod's stability.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do you attach a head with the column removed?

A: Disconnect the top portion from the center column which just unscrews. click the link below to view the user manual; https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/577229.pdf

Q: 2. Has this tripod been discontinued? Is a new model imminent?

A: As of the date/time of this reply, no, the Gitzo GT2532 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod has not been discontinued. Gitzo has not released a press release concerning a replacement to the above tripod.

Q: 3. I have a GT1542T and the Series 1 Traveler Disc wiggles slightly, even when tightened as much as possible. Has anyone else experienced that and if so, how do you fix it?

A: So that we may best assist you, please email us describing the disk and it's issue. provideo@bhphoto.com.

Q: 4. What is the mounting diameter of the top disc?

A: the diameter of the GT1532 disk is 5 cm.

Q: 5. Is the GT1542 heavy enough to accommodate the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbel?

A: It would work, but probably feel more grounded and stable if the WH-200 were used with a slightly heavier and stiffer tripod. Depending on your needs, a series 2, 3, or 4 tripod might be slightly better, but the excellent weight-height-stiffness ratio of the Mountaineer GT1542 does make it appealing.

Q: 6. How is Max Height measured? With center column fully extended? Half extended? Thank you.

A: The Specifications tab on our website for the Gitzo GT0532 Mountaineer Series 0 Carbon Fiber Tripod states that the maximum working height without the center column raised is 42.5" (108 cm), and the maximum working height (with the center column fully raised) is 52" (132.1 cm).

Q: 7. I cannot decide between the Gitzo GT1542 or the GT2542 Mountaineers, I'll be using a RRS BH-40 PCLR ballhead and a RRS L-Plate in combination, any suggestions?

A: The two tripods are very similar. Three differences is the folded size, maximum height and the Maximum load capacity. The Gitzo GT2542 can get up to 65.7 and the GT1542 up to 62.6 inches. If you are taller than then the shorter tripod I would get the GT2542. Also the maximum load is more on the GT2542, 39.7 lbs. And that will be more sturdy but it depends on what you are putting on the tripod and if it is very windy.

Q: 8. Can the feet be replaced with the Gitzo Bigfoot feet? If they can, how do you remove the feet?

A: The foot on the Gitzo GT1542 Mountaineer Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod can only be replaced by the one it comes with. It is in place under pressure. The Gitzo Bigfoot screws in and that is for other model tripods.

Q: 9. Is B & H an authorized Gitzo dealer ? If not will it not be possible to obtain extended 10 year warranty for Gitzo tripod ?

A: Yes, we are absolutely an authorized Gitzo dealer.

Q: 10. Is the max height including the center stick? It seems rather short...

A: Yes, that max height would include the center column. I don't use the center column, and with the bottom of the legs 38 apart, using a ball head, the bottom of the camera sits at 53 . I'm 5'9 and this is my 2nd one - it's been a very comfortable tripod.

[Twist Lock] I have used Manfrotto and Gitzo tripods for years. While the Manfrotto are very good, the Gitzo are stiffer, the twist collars work much nicer, the O-rings keep most water out. This model adds the removable center column. I have not worked with a tripod with an easier to remove and replace center column, what a great implementation!

[3/8"-16 Male] Light weight and sturdy. The leg sections move smoothly and lock in place with out much effort applied to the twist locks. It is very nice just like the other Gitzo tripod I own.

[3/8"-16 Male] Bought this because my Manfrotto broke beyond repair. The Gitzo is light even with my Really Right Stuff BH55 ball head. Sturdy and easy to use, this tripod is the one to get if you want a great tripod.

[3/8"-16 Male] I bought this for as a gift for a semi-pro photographer, who needed a lightweight tripod for traveling. Though there were a few tripods out there that were even lighter than this one, it was only by a few ounces and were significantly more expensive. Even better, it had a rebate available! The tripod is super lightweight, very easy to use, and folds up to be quite compact...everything we were looking for.

[Twist Lock] I bought this as a more portable option to my 4 series. This is plenty stable, and has no trouble with my gimbal/600 F4 (Sony, not the heavy older ones) when I need it to. Obviously I'd go for a more stable rig given the option, but this does just fine and is much nicer to carry around. For landscape it is perfect. If its breezy out keep the center column down and add some ballast to the hook. It would be nice if it came with the pull of spiked feet. RRS BH-40 fits it nicely, BH-55 overhangs the pedestal a bit. I love the leg angle locks, and the leg twist locks are fantastic, nice short throw and sure grip.

[3/8"-16 Male] I no longer have to miss photo opportunities because of a heavy load of gear. The GT1532 is a breeze to carry around and set up, particularly compared to my aluminum tripod. I shot some landscape examples with my walking-around lens and with Canons 11-24mm monster. Not a hint of vibration with either. So far Im delighted with the results. I think the flip lock for leg extension is easier to use on my old model than Gitzos twist lock, but that may simply be a factor of getting used to it. In any event, its a minor irritation compared to the advantages of using a great, lightweight tripod. Definitely recommend it to friends.

[Yes] I finally bit the bullet and bought a premium tripod. I know that cost is an issue but the value is there. I followed the usual route buying and getting rid of inferior tripods. The buck has finally stopped with this Gitzo. It operates smoothly and is easy to pack & deploy quickly. Very rigid. Clever quick conversion to short column for low to the ground shots. I love this thing!
