Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a pair of rode videomicros (requires plugin power) and a pair of wireless lavaliers. I will be using them interchangeably depending on the project. I want to get 2 of this item because the videomicro requires power but I need to know if it will still pass the signal without phantom power because the lavaliers don't need plugin power?

A: Yes, this will pass audio without power.

Q: 2. Can I use this to connect my RodeMicGo to my Sony Fs7?

A: Yes, you can use the VXLR+ which is designed for use with microphones that require plug-in power.

Q: 3. Can someone describe what is connected to each 1/8 in. connection (tip. ring, sleeve) in terms of signal, power, and ground? (This would help to answer a lot of other questions.)

A: The specific TRS input wiring schematic is not available for the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, however we can confirm that the VXLR+ is compatible with microphones using the 3.5mm "Sennheiser" wiring configuration for compatibility. This adapter is not compatible with microphones wired for compatibility with Sony input connections.

Q: 4. is this needed for zoom h6 and rode wireless go?

A: No. The adapter you want is the Rode VXLR (B&H # ROVXLR) since you only need to convert the 3.5mm plug to XLR. The VXLR+ is used when you are using a condenser style microphone like a lavalier mic with a 3.5mm connector and need to connect it to an XLR mic input on a recorder or mixer. For instance, if you have a separate lavalier mic that you use with the Wireless GO transmitter, such as the Rode Lavalier GO, it is a condenser mic that requires plug-in power, which is a low voltage. A recorder or mixer's XLR input can supply phantom power, which is typically 48V and way too much power for a lavalier mic. The VXLR+ converts the 48V to a much lower voltage and allows you to use a mic like the Lavalier GO which requires 2.7V and connect it directly to an XLR input on the H6.

Q: 5. If I plug a stereo mic to the VXLR+, does it mix both channels into one mono? Or this just uses one of both stereo channels?

A: When using the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter with a stereo microphone, the output will be summed to dual mono. Please note that most microphones with a 3.5mm TRS connector provide dual mono output signal and not true stereo output. An actual stereo microphone will have two mic elements instead of one.

Q: 6. Does this work with the Deity D3 pro microphone ?

A: No. Because the D3 is self powered you can use the regular VXLR https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/387850-REG/Rode_VXLR_VXLR_Mono_Mini_Jack.html

Q: 7. Will this work with the Tram TR50?

A: Hello Stan, I show the TR50 as a XLR connection and therefore it would not. If there is a TR50 available with a 3.5mm TRS connector then yes, this will work for you.

Q: 8. Can this be used as an adapter for PA's or DJ's desks into a XLR input on a recorder?

A: The Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter is typically used to adapt microphones with 3.5mm wiring to XLR inputs, however this adapter could presumably work in the same manner with a line level 3.5mm connection from a DJ deck into a line level XLR input on a recorder.

Q: 9. Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic With a Sennheiser 3.5 EW connector work properly with this adapter please?

A: My previous answer may be inaccurate. Some COS-11D microphones are 48V Phantom and some are +3V to +10V. You will need to determine the power requirements of your microphone. The VXLR Plus provides 5 Volts.

Q: 10. will it work with takstar sgc-598?

A: That adapter will work for the Takstar SGC-598 microphone, to connect to an XLR input. Since that Takstar mic is battery powered, the less costly ROVXLR adapter would also work: https://bhpho.to/3AOKIE9

[2.65 lb] It is perfect in every way that I'll ever use it, which is connecting a wireless mic to a small mixer (Shure PGXD to Mackie 402-VLX3). I don't know how flexible it is when it's cold, but I get the impression that it'll be better than most.

[Yes] I have run a production company since the mid 80's and I have spent good money on bad products way too many times. Whirlwind has always been top of the line and I have many of their wiring products. These cables are another great product by Whirlwind. Don't waste money on cables that will fail within a few shows. Buy these and you'll be set for life.
