The 3" diameter barrel Explore Scientific 100°-Series 30mm Eyepiece 3"from Explore Scientific 100°-Series 30mm Eyepiece 3"is an ultra-wide field telescope eyepiece designed for planetary and deep-space observations. Its wide exit pupil makes this eyepiece ideal for comfortable viewing for extended periods. The contrast is enhanced by a fold-down rubber eyecup that prevents stray light from leaking into your eye. Anti-reflective multicoated optics ensures bright, high-contrast images with true color transmission across the entire wide field of view. The eyepiece features a textured surface for a sure-grip when changing it out, argon-filled body for water and fogproof performance when used in extreme temperatures and climates, and a double-tapered barrel for smooth insertion and removal from the focuser.

[100°] This is pretty much my favorite eyepiece. Field of view and clarity are amazing; mix that with the 17mm magnification and it's my goto eyepiece for almost anything. If it were forced upon me I would happily use this as my only eyepiece for the rest of my life.

With that said, I must say that the rubber eyecup fell off within a couple days of use and I will need to figure out the repair myself (not a big enough issue to send back). Also, the plastic cap doesn't fit over the top of the eyepiece for storage? What is that about? It's from a different eyepiece model? I wouldn't expect these issues with an otherwise very high quality piece.

Even with these issues I am giving it 5 stars because they do not take away from the amazing viewing experience and overall quality.

[100°] Sharp stars across the field on my 12 f/5 Dob, definitely a step up from my old 70 degree SWA. Solidly made. Comfortable eye relief and inviting wide-angle view at 82 deg.

[100°] Just tried this eyepiece out in my 20 inch Dobsonian telescope. We were in the very dark skies in northern Nevada. Views were excellent. This eyepiece has made my scope an entirely new experience.

[2"] Have other Explore Scientific 100 eyepieces and love them all! 5.5mm version added to use with my ED152 refractor telescope. Sharp and a wide field which makes it more comfortable for observing the deep sky.

[2"] I don't know much about eyepieces but I do have 4 explorer scientific. The 4.5mm and 8.5mm 82 degree, the 17mm 92 degree and the 30mm 82 degree.
I like them all but I really like the 17mm and 30mm.
I can't give any technical details but I can tell you that the 30mm is a pleasure to look through. The same can be said for the 17mm. It would be hard to choose between the two if i could only have one. I guess I would have to go with the 17mm because of the wide field of view plus greater magnification but i would really miss the 30mm.
And I would definitely go with B&H, i recently tried another store in NJ and got ........

[100°] This is my first 2" EP and my first 82 degree FOV EP. The view of the double cluster (I could see both in the FOV with my Meade LS-8) was simply spectacular. I was a little anxious about spending close to $300 for an EP. However it is definitely worth the money.

[2"] I have other ES eyepieces but this is my first 100°.
It truly is a thing of beauty, but it's the size of a 12oz pop can.
If you have a reflector (I'm sing an Edge HD 8) be prepared to add some counter weight to the front of the dovetail.

[100°] I have waited a long time to obtain this eyepiece! In my 15' F/4.5 Dob this eyepiece gives me almost a complete degree of true field at 123X and a 3mm exit pupil. Sharp precise images, excellent contrast, minimal coma at the extreme edge of field. I already own the 25mm 100* eyepiece and that's my ultimate deep sky eyepiece. With an OIII filter on the 14mm, trace out the entire Veil Nebula. Truly breathtaking. I can't imagine any deep sky person being disappointed with this eyepiece.

[2"] Explore scientific oce again confirm its reputation. This eyepiece is really the best in its category, along with rhe Tele Vue Nagler but at half of that price: difficult to do better. Its huge apparent FOV, its contrast and its flat field make it a must for all owners of a long focal SCT.
